Dd has a positive LFT. I stupidly did the test close to food, remember reading something on here about certain foods causing a strong positive , is that true and if so how long do I need to leave it before testing again ? Assume we all need to test now ?
She has done it for school , DH and I have never needed to test, hence me not knowing the drill.

Sir you can continue do whatever it was you were doing.

You no longer have to isolate if double jabbed.

You can always book a PCR test for you at a later date.

As your LFT is negative I wouldn't miss something and regret it.

Just to reiterate you can still go out and about as usual. Just keep doing LFT and if you have any change in your health just book pcr

Does the thing you have to do tomorrow involve a lot of people? Can you pre-warn them that your DD potentially has COVID?

If anyone is positive in our house, we would all try and minimise contact with anyone until 10 days clear, even if we test negative, but if there is something important we would let other people know and then make a decision.

whynotwhatknot · 01/09/2021 23:02

Yu dont have to isolate anymore if youre double jabbed-understand if you dont want to mix with anone though

mejon · 01/09/2021 23:15

Fingers crossed @SirVixofVixHall. After having so few cases in our part of the world up until now, to see the numbers rocketing now is quite alarming so I get your panic. Went to Folly Farm on Sunday and though outside was fine, very few were wearing a mask in the inside attractions so I'm half expecting to wake up with symptoms any day. Croesi bysedd - daeth bron i bob prawf LFT positif oedd yn yr ysgol uwchradd cyn y gwyliau nol yn negatif ar ol gwneud y prawf PCR felly dwi'n amheus iawn ohonyn nhw.

Lateral flow tests should only be used for people without COVID symptoms, that’s the whole point of them. Everyone is encouraged to test twice a week as asymptomatic people are responsible for transmitting. Hope you get on ok OP.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 23:30

A diolch yn fawr iawn mejon
Dw i’n poeni ond croesi bysedd ..
I can’t do the thing tomorrow as it involves another person who I can’t put at risk. It seems we are allowed to go around as normal but we will all avoid people until the result is back and we know for sure.
I assume Dd has to stay at home for ten days even if she gets no symptoms? I had better go and read up all the latest rules.

Thanks Cherry yes she has no symptoms , this was just the normal twice a week test as she was about to go back into school.

DH did his LFT too quickly after drinking orange juice one breakfast time. Came up positive.

Waited 45 mins to do another and it was negative. We both did daily ones for a week after and still all negative. Try not to worry and just redo the test in a bit, hopefully it will be negative.

MardiBras · 01/09/2021 23:41

I’ve had numerous positive LFT’s as well as negative results. I’ve been testing twice weekly. I’ve had a PCR test each time I’ve had a positive and on each occasion the result has been negative. I’ve been double vaccinated and never had any symptoms. They are not 100% accurate.

Jessicabrassica · 01/09/2021 23:44

Just because you can carry on as usual doesn't mean you have to.

DD tested positive last week. +ve lft followed by +ve pcr. We were at a festival so we're testing every couple of days. She's asymptomatic.
Dh goes back into the classroom in Monday. He's doing his training day via teams. I'm clinical nhs and I'm not allowed to enter a clinical space in until DD stops isolating next week. We're both double vaccinated but not taking risks.

BluebellsGreenbells · 02/09/2021 00:03

Fingers crossed she’s negative bit the faint line might be a positive LFT - good luck tomorrow

SirVixofVixHall · 02/09/2021 00:04

Yes, we won’t take any risks either, I am at home and DH works from home mainly anyway so that side of it is ok. There is just something important that will be really upsetting to not do but will just have to see what dd’s PCR says.

Thank you. I can’t put the reason on here as too outing but it is pretty devastating timing, so I am praying it is negative. Hopefully the results are swift.

Hope you get clarity soon

AdventuresDownRabbitholes · 02/09/2021 01:24

I had a false positive because there was a speck of blood on the nasal swab - and then the idiot tester left the tests for 45 minutes (after 30 minutes the tests can no longer be considered reliable) before declaring a "faint positive".

It was only after doing the test that I looked up the finer details of LFTs and discovered that all sorts of things can contaminate the tests and make them unreliable - everything from blood to a Fisherman's Friend.

The worst part was that the test was administered by a nursing home - who really ought to have known how to administer an LFT - and that they had already let me into the nursing home when the (false) positive was discovered.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 02/09/2021 01:48

@Darkchocolateandcoffee

Why do you think it's something she's eaten rather than covid? Covid is pretty rife right now and I haven't heard of many false positives in LFTs.

I would assume she's positive and get a PCR for her tomorrow. Chances are she'll be fine - my DC were when they had covid earlier this year.

@SirVixofVixHall gobeitho chi gyd wedi cael rhywfaint o gwsg neithiwr.

In our household of 4, both DH and DD tested positive this week. DH felt fluey on Sunday and booked a test - result came back swiftly within 14 hrs. Contact tracers asked us three to get tested and again, results were swift within 14 hours again - eldest DD positive but youngest (13) and I are negative. Eldest is 15 so unvaccinated and she has developed symptoms but very mild. She's understandably upset about missing the start of school.

Despite rule changes (I'm double vaccinated), DD and I haven't ventured beyond our garden this week - with covid so obviously around us, it feels wrong to do so.

That said, I'm a teacher and back at work this morning. I've alerted school and colleagues that i usually sit with, re-tested (still negative) but in 3 hours time, I will be sat in a meeting with 20 others (checked today's schedule and our remote meetings in our own classroom via Teams has come to an end and we are now in actual meeting rooms for sessions).

I'll do a home test soon to be doubly sure, but I'll be out and about in public soon, such as it is.

There's a feeling of inevitability about many of us catching this virus. Thankfully, the vaccine will greatly reduce the severity of the symptoms. DH is in his 60's and other than aching and feeling weak, he isn't experiencing anything beyond mild flu.

Dw i'n deall dy gofid - mae'n amser anodd iawn. Gobeithio ma hwn yn helpu chi ychydig - Mae'n sowndo eich fod yn mynd trwyddo cyfnod heriol ar hyn o bryd. Cariad a nerth Thanks

Fingers crossed you get the PCR result quickly

Any symptoms this morning?

SirVixofVixHall · 02/09/2021 12:33

She is still feeling fine. I don’t know the timescale for when symptoms might appear, is it fairly fast ? Eg if she is positive as is most likely, but stays asymptomatic for a couple of days , is she unlikely to get ill ?
How long might it be before the rest of us show symptoms?

My LFT was positive, did another one an hour later, negative. PCR positive.
