Dd has a positive LFT. I stupidly did the test close to food, remember reading something on here about certain foods causing a strong positive , is that true and if so how long do I need to leave it before testing again ? Assume we all need to test now ?
She has done it for school , DH and I have never needed to test, hence me not knowing the drill.

I had postive LFT followed by negative PCR. Double vaxxed. I felt really weird for a few days and then a week or so later I got shingles. Assumed it was that, but all my lateral flow tests were still positive. Took another PCR, got a text that said negative and an email that said positive! Then got an email saying negative. V weird. Anyway, then I just felt exhausted all the time and my fingernails started coming off.... the dr now says I did have Covid and do have long Covid. Testing doesn't seem to be brilliant

Sounds as though they messed up your results there, maybe a mix up.
LFTs are not so accurate with negatives but very good on positives I think ?
Sorry that you have long covid, fingernails coming off must have been pretty shocking .

@SirVixofVixHall
how are you guys all doing now?

SirVixofVixHall · 06/09/2021 23:34

Dd and I still negative, PCR yesterday, LFTs daily. Dd fine but slight cough now, and DH quite a bit worse today. Temperature, cough.
I still feel rather under the weather, but think maybe just my body fighting it off ? This is how I was after the first vaccine. Dd and I get PCR tested again in few days.
I am worrying about him and also worried that we are much more likely to catch it now DH is worse as he is probably giving out more virus, is that a valid worry ? He is more fluey today, suddenly threw a temp late morning. Day six for him from first symptoms. (Very hard to do any kind of proper separation in our house at all)
How long does it tend to last in vaccinated people ? He is forties, thin and fit, no added risk factors whatsoever.
I suppose if it wasn’t the dreaded, scary Covid I wouldn’t be worried, I would just think he had a particularly nasty cold type virus. This virus is so random though, and frightening.
Hope everyone else here is doing well.

My vaccinated 40s friend wasn’t particularly ill but was bed bound for 2 days before starting to recover.
Wasn’t fully well by the time 10 days were up but could go to work. She’s fine now 3 weeks on.
I get separation is difficult. At least today hopefully you can take it in turns to use the garden to keep out of each other’s way.

He is a bit better this morning, think it might be that thing with most viruses where you feel worse in the evening and night.
Dd is fed up of staying in one room but not unwell. This is day 7 for her.
How do you know when someone is no longer contagious ? Simply when the time is up ? She has a slight cough now but otherwise asymptomatic. I thought LFTs would show when no longer shedding virus but apparently they can stay positive for ages, which I don’t understand, as surely then still contagious ?

But I had a hope that they might start vaccinating her age group shortly and that she might escape it if so.

People can still catch covid if they have been vaccinated.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/09/2021 17:18

Of course, hence “might” . It does make it less likely. I understand why many younger teenagers would choose not to have a vaccine, or have parents who don’t want them to have it, it depends on individual circumstances and general health.
My older dd wanted to be vaccinated and it was her choice, I wouldn’t have pushed for it. She is so far negative, and the vaccine may be why but there is no way of knowing .

Nope LFT will go back to negative after a few days.

I’ve not been vaccinated, had covid before because I had antibodies. I don’t know when I was infected first, but I knew I was infected recently due to symptoms and LFTs.

My son had this - I put it down to him drinking a glass of blackcurrant just before the test 😬 second lf test was definitely negative, bit worried now!

SirVixofVixHall · 08/09/2021 13:12

My dds second and third tests were not anywhere near as dark as the one she had first, after the drink. They were still clearly positive but the first one was black within a minute, so I do think it had an impact on the test.
However maybe you need to get a PCR for your son to make sure ?
Kitchendrama thanks for letting me know that, it is helpful. The school info on LFTs says that they must not do them for a length of time after actually having Covid, I think it is three months , so I assumed from that, that they would continue to be positive. Dd tested positive last Wednesday so not too much longer in isolation. Should she do LFTs to confirm that she is no longer contagious?

You aren’t supposed to eat or drink for 30 mins before

Apparently the new tests are just from the noise.

Plot twist as well…. My throat never swabbed positive for covid
