So what would be the deal when the 12-15 year old turn 18. Will they then get double jabbed again?

herecomesthsun · 13/09/2021 14:51

I think the plans will evolve as we have more evidence.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 13/09/2021 14:54

here do you know what channel it's on please?

Not that it'll help DD currently, she tested positive with bad cold symptoms yesterday. So fucking pissed off with it all.

herecomesthsun · 13/09/2021 15:08

??BBC and Sky

herecomesthsun · 13/09/2021 15:08

hope your DD gets well soon

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 13/09/2021 15:12

I can't find it on the BBC schedule but looks like it will be covered on BBC News channel at 4pm. Thank you.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 13/09/2021 15:13

Thank you. Ironic after that bloody parental consent thread isn't it?

tiddlysquat · 13/09/2021 15:36

Yep I think we will nod and smile and just go ahead . Really hope it can happen quickly , I'm going to ask the GP if she can be prioritised perhaps rather than wait for school.

tiddlysquat · 13/09/2021 15:37

@Sweetpeasaremadeforbees hope your dd gets better quickly

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 13/09/2021 15:47

Thank you tiddly. At least she hasn't lost her teenage appetite yet which I hope is a good sign!

Piggywaspushed · 13/09/2021 16:27

Nobody can even answer this question for current 16/17 year olds who are also at present getting single doses! What happens when the 17 year old turns 18??
Bordois · 13/09/2021 16:50

Cases down again!

Dghgcotcitc · 13/09/2021 16:53

So when would be expect to see the return to school bump happen? I am thinking over a week since schools went back we would expect it to be about now?

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2021 16:56

When did Scotland get it?

Dghgcotcitc · 13/09/2021 16:57

Hard to say as it was mixed with the other things cases began rising in Scotland for about 14 august but I think that cannot have been the school bump as other stuff opened too…they have been raising in Scotland ever since!

swg1 · 13/09/2021 17:04

I'm not quite convinced by numbers this week.

My oldest started coughing last night. At 4PM I made several attempts at getting a test appointment booked and got an error code. Called my sister after an hour and she tried and got the same error. Finally booked it on the phone and the operator said that the online system wasn't keeping pace with the available appointments so even though it was showing appointments through to 7.30 there were actually none left until this morning (which I booked). Back to school rush has knocked systems over.

If that's happening how many people are shrugging and giving up? It makes very little difference if the appointments are there if the computer gets stuck trying to book them.

JanglyBeads · 13/09/2021 17:11

Ah yes, that would be the same as this time last year, apart from LFTs mean some with positives won’t bother to get PCR.

What is the benefit of getting PCR confirmation anyway?

Bordois · 13/09/2021 17:13

Testing is up too...

swg1 · 13/09/2021 17:14

@JanglyBeads

TBH I go straight to PCR - it's more reliable and it's painful enough making a small child do one test, I see no benefit in doing it twice.
Bordois · 13/09/2021 17:14

16.9% rise in testing and an 8.4% drop in cases over the past week.

Dghgcotcitc · 13/09/2021 17:16

Yes if it was testing is at capacity issue then testing would be down and it’s up. Confirmation pcr may not happen but if you report a positive laterally flow then it makes no difference to the figures and people are reporting more test results this week than last week.

Autumngoldleaf · 13/09/2021 17:19

To be honest I bet a small % actually report lat flows.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 13/09/2021 17:24

It may turn out to be negative and then you don't have to self-isolate (even if you feel like crap with obvious Covid symptoms - mad really). Someone on another thread also noted that if you need to take a PCR for any reason a while later you may still test positive and it will be assumed that you have a new infection whereas if the PCR is registered, presumably you shouldn't take another test within 90 days anyway.

Piggywaspushed · 13/09/2021 17:26

Also for long covid ...unexplained symptoms might never be known to be post viral if your medical records don't show you had the virus.

swg1 · 13/09/2021 17:27

@Dghgcotcitc

It's not so much a testing at capacity issue - the tests were there for this morning once I called the helpline - as a "computer says no" issue. For some bizarre reason (I work in IT, I'm totally making faces at this) they're not updating in real time when appointments are taken so the system just shows a fairly generic "can't book, try again" error rather than anything helpful like "this slot is full" (PEOPLE! COMMUNICATIVE ERROR MESSAGES ARE HELPFUL!)

If there are tests available at 7.30PM but not at 6:00, 6:30 or 7:00 and after trying to book those first three I stop trying it doesn't help me. And yes, testing is still up (can confirm, had to sit in a queue of cars when we went this morning) as you would expect for back-to-school, but I suspect it should be even higher.

(My IT brain really wants to go on a rant about this because a year in this is really inexcusably bad user experience design. We would get an utter kicking if we presented something like this at my place and deservably so).
