Perihelion · 05/09/2021 21:31

Scotland's 7 day case rate per 100k, is now higher than Israel, at 780.8.
My neighbourhood in Edinburgh is 1363 per 100k. I did joke with DD on Monday, that she'd probably get Covid by the end of the week. She's coughing and waiting for her PCR result.

wintertravel1980 · 05/09/2021 22:10

I think Scotland might have peaked this week. The rate of the increase has been continuously slowing down. My unscientific prediction is that cases are now dropping. We should see it better next week.

JanglyBeads · 05/09/2021 22:28

Confused @Perihelion!

TheSunIsStillShining · 06/09/2021 16:04

I might have lost the plot...
"the UK’s vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi suggesting that healthy 12- to 15-year-olds could override their parents’ decision on vaccination in the right circumstances, as the government prepares to overrule advice and extend jabs to younger teens."

  1. although MHRC apprived Pf long ago there is no option for kids to get vaxxed because JCVI won't allow it. Gov says they want to but alas they can't because of JCVI. As if that ever stopped them before.
  1. parents et al are totally fine with imposing a mandatory future health risk to the next generations. It's acknowledged that every kid who goes to school will eventually get it. No one bats an eyelid.
  1. we do not let 12 year olds decide on medical treatment, but in theory -the ones we are not vaccinating- should be able to choose if they get vaccinated or not. Why not let them choose if they want polio, mmr, any other vaccination? Too young? Never mind, wait until they are 12 and can decide. Because at 12 they are fully capable of viewing complex issues and making rational decisions that will effect the rest of their lives... why not ask them to choose an occupation that they will have to stick with?

This gov has taken batshit crazy to a whole new level and ppl are complacently sitting around and are fine with it.

Well, your hopes today have been crushed with a nice big number. (I did have my fingers crossed that you'd be right by some miracle. And still have them crossed that this is just a blip. But it's not.)

I love everyone's optimism on how numbers will fall, etc.
without doing anything. I know for a fact that I am not the crazy one here objectively, but subjectively I feel like I'm the idiot

notgotthejob · 06/09/2021 16:10

@TheSunIsStillShining they can't / won't climb forever, even with not mitigation's.

wintertravel1980 · 06/09/2021 16:11

Well, your hopes today have been crushed with a nice big number.

Actually, they have not. The numbers reported today relate to cases from the previous week. I expected Wed and Thur to be the peak (at roughly 7,500 of daily cases).

We will see what this week brings but there is a good chance the numbers will start going down. They did in Bolton and Blackburn (England's early hotspots). I do not see why Scotland should not follow the suit.
