DD has been wanting her vax for weeks and is feeling impatient! Any healthy 16-17 year olds had any info on booking yet? We've heard nothing since it was announced last week.

Ds had invite by my mobile. Booked for this coming Sat 21st aug. Received yesterday.

Ds has now had a text. No date but Dr are organising a clinic. He could have gone to pop up clinic at Pride on Saturday but his girlfriend's birthday party is the next day and he doesn;t want to risk side effects until after that.

My 16 yo DD got hers yesterday, no side effects yet.

Thanks to the ppl who posted here with the tip to look at the local CCG’s Fb Page, that’s where I found out about the walk-in, 8 miles from us. Hardly any queue.

It doesn’t seem like the govt’s going to reach its target of 23rd Aug at this rate , does it?

Just had my ds’ text and booked him in. Booked first available appointment, which is Tuesday 24th.

Very relieved, as he’s CV and that gives him two weeks exactly until his younger sister goes back to secondary school and he has lots of face to face hospital appointments just after the two week period as well.

I took dd to a walk in centre this morning as we are away next week so was worried we would miss being called in. It's was pretty easy and dd is fine other than a achy arm.

effiehabb · 19/08/2021 13:36

No, my 16yo DD is still awaiting an invite. We're off on holiday to Dorset on Sunday and through the nhs walk in website found a site accepting 16+ walk ins on route, so will stop on the way down. She's desperate to have it before sixth form starts.

WhatHaveIFound · 21/08/2021 09:18

What are the queues like at the drop-in centres? We'd had a letter and a text but it doesn't offer an appointment. DS has chronic fatigue so i'm not sure he can cope with a long wait.

Our closest one is now 7 miles away but doesn't open until Wednesday so I guess we'll have to take a chance.

lurker101 · 21/08/2021 09:31

@WhatHaveIFound I volunteered at some centres earlier on and there was always a way to get someone who couldn’t wait (for genuine reasons) to the front of the queue sooner. I don’t imagine the queues are too long at the minute because most adults are done, but I’m sure if you speak to the staff on arrival they will be able to get on your son whizzed through

WhatHaveIFound · 21/08/2021 09:37

Thanks lurker101, that's good to know. I imagine he'd be ok up to an hour or if it was dry and he could sit down.

Seeline · 21/08/2021 12:35

@WhatHaveIFound I took DD to one on Tuesday. It was the first one in the area (8 miles away!) offering 16+. We queued for 2 hours! Annoyingly several others, closer to us, opened up the next day which might have spread the load. She got her invite yesterday 😁

Sadless · 21/08/2021 17:23

I have a 16 and 17 year old they both received a text message yesterday and the 17 received a letter last week. They haven't said if they are booking for it yet.

DS got his jab today. Walked straight into the vaccination centre and was done and out in 30 minutes. It says on his card that a second dose is not required Hmm

cherin · 25/08/2021 18:05

I’ve yet to see any message for DS17, but we are abroad so perhaps they’ve written. We’re going to a walk in centre the day after we return. Luckily he’s almost 17 and 9m so I believe he’ll get the second dose before Xmas anyway. If he wasn’t, I’d try to get him a dose here (where kids are vaccinated and I was told anedoctally they have plenty of spares which have been given to tourists, too).
