DD has been wanting her vax for weeks and is feeling impatient! Any healthy 16-17 year olds had any info on booking yet? We've heard nothing since it was announced last week.

Wales here; DD 17 has her’s this week. I rang up and said I’d thought they’d forgotten her, as I’d heard of others getting their’s. Staff asked to speak to her and booked an appointment without question.

JanglyBeads · 09/08/2021 00:13

How on earth have 16-17 year olds had theirs “weeks ago”? It was only approved on Monday?

JanglyBeads · 09/08/2021 00:14

Sorry, on Wednesday.

ineedaholidaynow · 09/08/2021 00:17

I was wondering that @JanglyBeads, especially those that are double jabbed

Wellbythebloodyhell · 09/08/2021 11:30

NW - Greater Manchester area vaccines available to all 16+ from today

Mommyshere · 09/08/2021 11:34

We have here in the East Midlands

HasaDigaEebowai · 09/08/2021 11:50

There was a large walk in centre close to us open all weekend for 16 year olds. Apparently they were inundated and queues were very long.

Faffinator · 09/08/2021 12:08

In West Midlands and it is still 18 plus and they don't know when they will open up to 16 plus (neighbour is a vaccinator)

TantrumsAndBalloons · 09/08/2021 12:27

In North London, my DS (17) had his second jab last week, our GP surgery sent a text for him to book the first one 8 weeks ago, quite a few of his friends the area are also now double jabbed

Seeline · 09/08/2021 12:44

We're SOuth London and all the drop ins clearly say over 18s only. CCG website says 16-17 yos will be 'invited' for their vaccinations soon.

Wakemeuuuup · 09/08/2021 15:22

North West London. Still 17 and 9 months +. I emailed to be sure and that's the answer I gotSad

3kidsandafewcats · 09/08/2021 16:18

I got a text last Friday and DS 17 had his last Saturday morning, East Midlands.

AertexShirt · 09/08/2021 16:23

My DC (16) hasn't heard anything yet. N Yorks.

ThirtyCharacterUsernamesOnly30 · 09/08/2021 17:08

North Surrey here. We've not heard from GP and everywhere still seems to be 18 and over.

itsgettingwierd · 09/08/2021 17:13

Locally our hub attached to my gp surgery has been advertising walk in clinics this month. First is this weekend.

Our hub also did all the CV 16/17 yo as referred by GPS as that where ds had his (16 CV and fully vax now)

itsgettingwierd · 09/08/2021 17:14

On a side note it's great to see a lot of younger adults and pre adults wanting to take up the offer of a jab.

It's helps towards the herd immunity effect.

blahblahblah321 · 09/08/2021 17:19

DS still waiting, he's just hit the 17yr 9mths mark but online booking system still saying it isn't updated yet for that age group. Might take him to a drop in later in the week, there's one not too far away that if it's a no it's not too much of a waste of time

MysteriousMonkey · 09/08/2021 17:41

My 17 year old got their invite today. They are astmatic which I suppose may have made a difference.

Amberfromcamber · 09/08/2021 18:24

We got a text from the local GP surgery as soon as they were made available to 16 & 17 years olds. DD is booked to her her jab this week.

loobylou44 · 09/08/2021 22:25

North East. Haven't heard anything from the docs yet but my 16 year old daughter had her first jab at a walk in site yesterday.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 09/08/2021 22:34

My vaccine centre had a massive queue of 16/17yr olds at the opening of our walk in centre this evening, it was the busiest we've been in several weeks, we ended up finishing over half an hour past the scheduled time to accommodate the amount of walk ins we had

Walkaround · 09/08/2021 22:38

No - walk in centres in the entire county are refusing to vaccinate under 18s because they say they are “paediatric cases” and thy are not set up for this (ffs - 16-17 year olds don’t even need parental permission and would have bugger all difference in any potential reactions compared to 18-year olds).

No they aren't at all! Whilst it's true there is extra requirements needed for paediatric cases (although I'm not sure what exactly they are) but it doesn't affect 16/17yr olds as many of this age group have been able to get a vaccine for months if they were CEV or working in the Care sector etc. As stated above the walk in vaccine clinic I work at has been accepting walk ins all weekend from 16/17yr olds. The extra requirements from the NHSE are in relation to the 12-15 cohorts which many vaccine sites (like the one i work at and the others in GM) don't have , hence the delay in vaccinating the eligible 12 -15 Yr old
Walkaround · 09/08/2021 22:51

@Wellbythebloodyhell - then explain that to the people working in the clinics who turn them away; to the lady I spoke to on the telephone; and to their website which says over 18s only!

Walkaround · 09/08/2021 22:51

It’s just the one provider doing all the walk-in clinics county-wide.
