Any 16-17 year olds actually had an invite yet?

DD has been wanting her vax for weeks and is feeling impatient! Any healthy 16-17 year olds had any info on booking yet? We've heard nothing since it was announced last week.

SE London, all of the walk ins on the list above say 18+ in my area. We were in Shepherds Bush a couple of days ago (other side of London) saw a walk in centre there which was totally empty, they said no (Dd 16)

Walkaround · 09/08/2021 22:53

Maybe, @Wellbythebloodyhell, you are getting confused by the difference between a county and the country, as you clearly do not live in the same county that I do!!

Wellbythebloodyhell · 09/08/2021 22:56
@Wellbythebloodyhell - then explain that to the people working in the clinics who turn them away; to the lady I spoke to on the telephone; and to their website which says over 18s only!
We all have to await confirmation from our local CCG to give the go ahead to move to the lower cohorts, unfortunately it's not simultaneously with government announcements or with other CCGs /119 clinics throughout the country. If you can find a walk in local to you run by the CCG they tend to have moved to the lower cohorts before the national ones run by 119. Search your local CCG page on Facebook for updates

Wellbythebloodyhell · 09/08/2021 22:59

@Walkaround

It’s just the one provider doing all the walk-in clinics county-wide.
Find a GP led/local CCG walk in clinic rather than the national 119 booking clinics

I might not live in the same county as you, (I'm greater Manchester)but I can tell you the paediatrics cases differences they've fobbed you off with is codswallop for that age group. Just because your county isn't offering walk ins for 16/17yr olds doesn't mean thats the case countrywide because it really isn't, unless I've dreamt the whole afternoon I've just spent at a walk in clinics, checking 16/17yr olds in for their vaccines Confused
Walkaround · 09/08/2021 23:10

I never said it was the case countrywide, @Wellbythebloodyhell. You need to read my posts more carefully! I also said myself the “paediatric cases” thing was a load of baloney. There is nowhere in this county or nearest neighbouring counties where my 17-year old can currently get his jab - we would have to travel to London at the moment, which is frankly ridiculous. Believe me, I have actually been looking into it, as he is keen to get it sorted in the holidays, at a time convenient to him.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 09/08/2021 23:14

Our local walk in still over 18s only (I asked on Facebook). They are "awaiting authority from NHS".

Not sure why this differs across the country, some walk ins clearly have the magic authority already.
GP clinic has closed here.

nancy75 · 09/08/2021 23:16

Anyone in London know where they are available? The only place in SE London seems to be Charlton FC or the O2

I hope you get sorted soon, in my experience, the nationwide NHS guidelines usually change within a few days/a week to the local CCG clinics
Walkaround · 09/08/2021 23:29

@Wellbythebloodyhell - I’ve been told it’s unlikely to be in the next fortnight…

OrangeBlossom28 · 09/08/2021 23:35

Worcs here and our surgery advertised clinics for them last Friday, Tues and Wed this week so far. DD2 (17) having hers tomorrow.

flotsomandjetsome · 09/08/2021 23:39

Having spoken to a doctor friend who is vaccinating at a drop in centre, not all doctors can administer the jabs to 16-17 year olds - only some can (she didn't tell me reason, possibly more highly qualified only??) Anyway that may be why some centres are still only over 18s if they don't have the appropriate staff there.

lurker101 · 10/08/2021 07:10

I think @flotsomandjetsome is right - a lot of vaccinators aren’t normally medical professionals as I understand it, so there’s maybe some “red tape” with some CCGs making them do a “top up training” possibly for child protection or similar for under 18s

We live in the sticks and our vaccination centre is a village hall, manned mainly by volunteers but we had a walk in clinic for 16-17 year olds last weekend. Weird how it differs across the country.
DinosaurDiana · 10/08/2021 07:54

Yep. GP Facebook page informed us of a walk in centre.

Walkaround · 10/08/2021 08:34

Huh. I wouldn’t be remotely surprised if the more qualified you are, the less likely you are to do it due to some ludicrous insurance policy thing where people who have been giving vaccinations to adults for years are not permitted to give vaccinations to 16-17 year olds without amending their insurance first, but people who have volunteered out of nowhere to be covid vaccinators are permitted to jab the arms of anyone who turns up over the age of 16. But then I’m cynical (and there is no logic to any of it, so it is undoubtedly a stupid reason not based in any way on actual safety).

alloalloallo · 10/08/2021 10:18

My 16 year old DD got a text yesterday and she’s booked in for tomorrow.

Hers is through our GP at a neighbouring GP surgery.

I had mine done there and it was done by a GP.

They also run it as a walk-in centre at the same time, but that’s only over 18s at the moment

SE13Mummy · 10/08/2021 10:22

Yes, local vaccination centres have been accepting 16-17 year olds since last Thursday/Friday. DD1 received a text from the GP last Saturday inviting her to get jabbed.

JanglyBeads · 10/08/2021 11:42

How come some of your 16-17 year olds are getting direct texts? Surely the NHS doesn’t have phone numbers for most young people that age. So is it effectively only for those who have engaged independently with the NHS?

WhatHaveIFound · 10/08/2021 11:54

No news here and DH had asked the doctor about DS being vaccinated just a few days before the announcement. He's had long Covid for almost 9 months and we're hoping the jab might reduce some of the symptoms.

littlequestion · 10/08/2021 11:58

Not heard anything yet.

Cases where I am are through the roof, especially in the 15-29 age group (over 1100 per 100,000).

I'd have thought it would be sensible to crack on with doing the 16 and 17 year olds but there's radio silence and all drops-ins are still saying adults only. Grrr.

McFarts · 10/08/2021 12:41

Im in Sheffield, nothing here as yet for 16 to 17 years olds, seem crazy given that our cases are some of the highest in the country Confused

UndeadSlut · 10/08/2021 12:51

My GP surgery sent a text to my 16 year old (via me) yesterday and he's booked to go to the same vaccine centre I had mine at. They're giving a chocie of booked appointments or walk in clinics.

UndeadSlut · 10/08/2021 12:51

Meant to say, we're in South East.

KeeefBurtain · 10/08/2021 14:14

Dd(17) has hers tomorrow and Ds(16) has his on the 25th. Both received letters inviting them
