Is anyone else suprised at just how many fully vaccinated people are catching Covid?

Exactly this. Sky were reporting today that appx 35% of those hospitalised were double jabbed and I had no idea it would be as high as that.

Well Vallance said 60% were unvaccinated last week so it's only taken Sky a week to add up the rest I suppose.

Yes, and I have it. Its honestly .made me realise that vaccines aren't the complete answer, we all still need to be careful. I appreciate though that not so many are hospitalised.
It brings the reality home that this virus is going nowhere..

With such high numbers vaccinated then it's not a surprise that they make up a % of hospitalizations. If you look at the number in hospital and sadly deaths previously when we had similar case numbers, the numbers are a lot higher, that's the true measure of the vaccines working.

If you think about it carefully, you'd realise that I if 100% of the population was vaccinated, 100% of hospitalisations would be double vaccinated people. The more jabbed people there are, the higher the percentage of people in hospital who have been jabbed.

I know of a group of young people who caught Delta recently where only the vaccinated ones didn't get it.
Anecdote but it interested me!

I'm not surprised as they did say it doesn't stop you getting covid or passing it on it's just the severity/less chance of hospitalisation.

I've just had it and despite being very overweight I barely noticed I had it so I'm pleased the vaccine seemed to do its job. I'd been a bit worried about catching it since last year and seeing as I wasn't so bad I feel a bit relieved BUT if/when I get it again will I be so lucky even with boosters?!

No, not surprised, I understand the data behind it, explained above. My degree and line of work was statistical analysis.

I suppose I bought into the concept of the vaccine as perhaps a bigger ‘solve’ than it is.

Not really, it's important to keep in mind the vaccine isn't 100% effective. Graphic up thread is very good.

Well, we got lucky and got a vaccine that is 80% effective. The number of vaccinated that are getting covid is what is expected, as it's explained in the graph @ChocAuVin posted.

No not at all, it’s doesn't stop you getting it, they never said it did. It reduces your risk of developing bad symptoms.

Efficacy of the vaccines (i.e, the proportion that do not get the disease) hasn't been reduced down to 0%.

I want to point out I am pro vaccine but pro choice.

I believe the vaccines protect the individual against serious illness or worse death.
However I don't believe the vaccines have equal success i do think there's 3 factors that make efficiency vary.

The varient
The individual
The manufacturer my perception from what I read is pfizer is more successful don't know of thats true.
However so much conflicting information from USA, Israel and UK on how effective these vaccines are.

I believe that vaccines don't block transmissible.
That we need more mitigating measures
More basic infection control which is at odds with government policy.
If vaccinated people are equal risk of transmitting this makes losing self isolating of double vaxxed and need quarantine after travel very risky.
Add in school going back no bubbles, unvaccinated with no masks or social distancing allows infections to rise in autumn winter.

We were better off last summer when we unvaccinated than now because we used other measures.
Even Boris said few months ago its not all vaccines lockdown played a part in reducing infections.
We summer and school holidays I would expect reduced cases .

Vaccines not failed us but they not sole solution and given some false confidence.

Im just at the end of my COVID infection and have actually been surprised with how rotten I have felt for 6 days. Im healthy mid-40s, fully vaccinated. I knew I could still get it, especially as my school aged child brought it home.
However, I thought it would be as a cold or so but have been feeling much worse than ‘just a cold’ . Grateful for the jabs as I wouldn’t have wanted it unvaccinated if this week has been the ‘mild’ version !

It doesn't really matter what % of hospital cases are vaccinated are not, it's the overall amount of hospital admissions that count. It stands to reason as more adults are vaccinated that they will out number the unvaccinated In most circumstances because the vaccinated accounts for a higher adult population %. The main focus should be on hospital admissions staying low irrelevant of vaccine status.

78.5% of adults in the UK are now fully vaccinated. That's a huge number. Almost 40 million. Of course there will be huge numbers of fully vaccinated individuals catching Covid.
The vaccines don't stop people contracting Covid, but you are much less likely to get it, much less likely to get seriously ill and much less likely to be hospitalised and/or die.

Yes I am surprised it’s that high in hospital.
I just had Covid and am double jabbed, it was mild I guess in the sense I wasn’t in hospital but it was not pleasant
