FFS Been pinged & were due to go on holiday tomorrow

Well that's it then. We have to cancel our holiday. This year feels like I have been cursed. I've had two eye operations to stop me going blind, and now this.

DH & I have been doubly vaccinated but the DC are too young.

I hid the thread after it started getting heated. Go on holiday, don't go on holiday, delete the app, or don't delete it. DH and I had a really long talk about the best way forward, and I knew it would be wrong to ignore the ping. After all I could have had covid and spread it around and I'd never forgive myself for doing that. We did some digging into where I/we may have been to trigger the dreaded ping. We are fairly sure we know who it was. We made the difficult decision to contact the holiday cottage owner and tell them. They said we must not come, thanked us for being honest with them and offered us a new week at a reduced price. Apparently it wasn't the only time it had happened either. So holiday is still happening for us and the DC are happy.

If I hadn't had the app or had contact tracing switched off I wouldn't have been any the wiser. But it happened and we have dealt with it responsibly.

Going to hide the thread again, as we really don't want to get drawn into a row.

The problem is that you really need a fit-for-purpose (and everyone) mandatory system not a wishy-washy one that allows for the full range of behaviours from conscientious compliant to belligerent bellends who flout all the rules.

And how could it be made mandatory?

Honestly I think you’ve done the right thing and I’m so glad you have another week away sorted. You’re being responsible and respectful and we should all thank you for that.
