Well that's it then. We have to cancel our holidaySad. This year feels like I have been cursed. I've had two eye operations to stop me going blind, and now this.

DH & I have been doubly vaccinated but the DC are too young.

Aaaaaarrrrggghhh Angry

The app is a massive failure. I’ve never had it. Delete it and go.

MrsBadcrumble123 · 06/08/2021 18:16

Deleted that app months ago when I stopped in a motorway services car park to grab my sandwich from the boot. Somehow I was ‘pinged’ as being IN the services (I didn’t leave the vicinity of my car?!)
Go on holiday and delete the app!!

daisydaisy7 · 06/08/2021 18:20

Delete the app and go on holiday. Do a LFT if you're worried you may actually have it.

Seahorsemama · 06/08/2021 18:21

Lateral flow, delete app, and go. You have had enough shite this year - you deserve your holiday

Jeannie88 · 06/08/2021 18:21

Don't know anyone who actually uses the app, well maybe one or two who want to be pinged to get a break from work.

Icantfindmykeys · 06/08/2021 18:25

Do not panic. I am currently in bed with COVID after having 2 jabs.
My son caught it first then me and now my husband has it who has asthma and receiving cancer treatment. Both also had two jabs.
Interestingly husband is the least unwell.

My youngest son suspiciously has not had it! He has so far tallied up 20 days isolation!

After what we have been through I would go! Be sensible and still wear masks just in case and protect others. You can LF daily although ours didn’t test positive until day 3 after a positive PCR. I would still do this.
I have cancelled and rebooked to go on holiday 3 times 😂😂😬😭

Be aware of any headaches, sore throats, dizziness, sore eyes, slight tickly coughs as this new variant feels like the start of a cold and not classic Covid symptoms. They are so mild you could easily miss them.

Do you have any neighbours with COvid? As they could have pinged over the fence and you could be worrying about nothing.

I hope you are ok - have fun.

MAsMum · 06/08/2021 18:28

A colleague was playing tennis and got pinged by the app because her bag was in a locker in a changing room at the gym when someone tested positive. She wasn’t in the changing room at the same time as the person and hadn’t even been in contact with her.

Lotsofwishes · 06/08/2021 18:28

I had a ping today so rang to see if they could tell me where. The boy on the phone sounded like he’d relayed the same message 1000 times today and said
‘You don’t have to isolate if it’s just the app. You can if you want but it’s up to you’.

I said that it says you’ll be fined if you’re caught but he said ‘well it’s up to you. You won’t be fined and it’s not a legal requirement to isolate unless you’ve been called.’

He said it could simply be that someone who lives in the same building as me has tested positive and the app just thinks I’m near them 🙈

GreenWheat · 06/08/2021 18:35

This is precisely why I don't have the app. I am double vaccinated and would have no intention of cancelling a holiday on the off chance that I have had some sort of fleeting contact with a positive case that might not have even been in the same room as me. Just go on holiday.

ellyeth · 06/08/2021 18:41

Loads of people have deleted the app. If it were me, I would go on holiday.

sadperson16 · 06/08/2021 18:44

GO just GO

BluebellsGreenbells · 06/08/2021 18:44

I do wonder if the OP was going abroad if the advice would be different?

Who wants to be locked up in a government approved hotel for 2 weeks with all the additional expense, plus a required PCR negative test to return (some people still test positive 90 days later)

So by all means be irresponsible because it’s not costing you anything extra is it?

Happy to stay home and ‘be careful’, I wonder if you’ll do the same in your holiday cottage?

sadperson16 · 06/08/2021 18:45

Some people don't have Apps or phones. Go

Iusedtobesoooomuchfun · 06/08/2021 18:51

I'm assuming you don't have to do a test before you get on the plane? Why not? Even if you're double vaccinated, you could still have it and pass it on?
Don't they check everyone?😲

mussymummy · 06/08/2021 18:51

I really feel for you, we have followed every rule re covid. However, if i were in your shoes, and my lateral flow tests were negative I would go on that holiday.
Its been a fucker of a few months you need to relax and not feel guilty for putting you and your families needs first. X

FreshFreesias · 06/08/2021 18:53

Wow. You must be the last person who still has the app.

saraclara · 06/08/2021 19:00

I am so glad that you're doing this, OP. You're only a week away from not needing to isolate anyway.

I've been an absolute rule follower throughout this, but I turned off bluetooth three weeks ago. I was desperate for my mini trip with my daughter, and she needed it even more. I couldn't bear the thought of having to cancel after what we've been through, and possibly for nothing, as the app simply isn't trustworthy.

Your family needs the holiday, you're travelling in the UK by car, you'll be testing throughout. Enjoy.

SofiaMichelle · 06/08/2021 19:00

Although I’m a notorious rule follower and always like to go by the book we did make an exception a few weeks back when DH was pinged by the app right before he and DS were due to go to Silverstone to see F1 for the first time . It was DS Christmas present he’d been waiting for his whole life...

Absolutely hilarious.

Kaylieghjd · 06/08/2021 19:01

It's all a load of rubbish, just delete the app! Start thinking for yourself and stop listening to the drivel that the government are spouting!

LoisLane66 · 06/08/2021 19:03

I understand your anxiety due to your DH and DS health but there will be many people on your journey to and from and during your holiday, who will have been pinged or deleted the app anyway and possibly done lfts before during and after their hols too, or maybe not even bothered.
Some may not have even been jabbed but just done a clear lft (for what they're worth)
Pick up 2 or 3 from your local chemist and enjoy your holiday. Just use reasonable precautions when you're away and travelling.
Enjoy. ☀️☀️

I am so glad that you're doing this, OP.

Why would you be "so glad"?

What a bizarre stance.

My daughter had a bubble burst four days before we were going away. It was a uk holiday with transportation in our own car. We went, took lateral flow tests every day and stuck pretty much out doors until she was out of isolation (we had one meal in a pub at lunchtime when quiet and sat but a big open window).

I did know who was the positive student and know she wasn't a friend or sat close to child. I would have felt differently maybe if I knew it was a best friend or someone she spent lots of time with.

Given you don't know who it was and you haven't taken any risky activities I would still go op.

Grimacingfrog · 06/08/2021 19:12

Exactly this! I've been scrupulously following the rules but even I think the OP should go.

It would be different if she'd been notified that she's been in close proximity with a stranger, friend or family member for a significant period of time but the App does not show this, which is why it's not fit for purpose.

And those people who keep banging on about tourists coming to where they live, just belt up. Loads of people come to London as well, from all over the country and all over the world. If you want to live there and benefit from it then you have to suck it up. It's like the people who live next to a school round here and then complain about children's noise. Ridiculous.
