Well that's it then. We have to cancel our holidaySad. This year feels like I have been cursed. I've had two eye operations to stop me going blind, and now this.

DH & I have been doubly vaccinated but the DC are too young.

Aaaaaarrrrggghhh Angry

It's not legally binding if it is the app.

In a couple of weeks even if T&T if double vaccinated you would just be able to continue.

Cancel your holiday by all means but really that's your choice and clearly your DH doesn't think you should. It certainly isn't mandated and I would not even worry and just go.

Unsure33 · 05/08/2021 07:18

I agree . Take LFT and look out for symptoms and go . But keep your distance from others as much as possible . But go on holiday.

I was very annoyed though with someone recently who was told they had been in close contact and then did a LFT but also then carried on hugging everyone and not social distancing. One negative LFT does not prove anything . . So just have respect for others and some common sense. And keep testing .

FflosFfantastig · 05/08/2021 07:18

I really don't understand why people have the app and then complain about getting pinged. The app is optional. Delete it. Do regular testing. If you're well go and enjoy it God knows we've all been cooped up for long enough.

EffOrf · 05/08/2021 07:21

How was it not fit for purpose for checking in?

Because you couldn't check out until you went somewhere else to check in or midnight, whichever was earliest, so you might get an advisory notification and not even been at the place at the same time anyway. Everything on the app is advisory not mandatory.

Badbadbunny · 05/08/2021 07:22

@clickychicky

Why does anyone download the app if they are just going to ignore it when it does what it was downloaded for?
Exactly. Last year everyone was complaining that the app development was too slow. Now it's here and working, people are deleting it. It's another situation where people not everyone else to isolate when pinged but not themselves because they're "special."

I agree. I never had the app so only T&T can contact me which they have.

I never wanted a 'ping' so never had the app.

YarnOver · 05/08/2021 07:22

@musicalfrog

I couldn't cancel a holiday for this.

OP the vulnerable are vaccinated. Just go.

I mean not all the vulnerable are vaccinated. I'm CEV and have severe allergies so can't be. (I couldn't give a crap though and I've never shielded either I'm just saying comments that "all the CEV are vaccinated" isn't true)

But I also would not dream of cancelling a holiday for this it's absolutely insane. Delete the app and go.
I don't have the app, you couldn't pay me to have the app. Next week not isolating and just testing will be the actual rules.
For goodness sakes don't ruin a well deserved holiday for this!!!!

Badbadbunny · 05/08/2021 07:22

want not not!

Okbutnotgreat · 05/08/2021 07:22

Honestly @TheWindOnTheMoon just delete the app, do an LFT and go on holiday. There is absolutely no way I would isolate now unless I knew for a fact that I had been in very close contact for an extended period of time with a positive case.

bakinbiscuits · 05/08/2021 07:23

Have you checked into places?
If you check into somewhere then you're registered as being there until midnight. So if you go at 2pm and someone with covid goes at 8pm you've been nowhere near them yet you'd likely still be pinged. How do they know what time you're there if you don't check out?!

I'm all for doing my bit but I wouldn't bother with the app. I'd only isolate if I personally knew the infected person or have been contacted by test and trace.

Do lateral flows, keep your distance and wear masks and enjoy your holiday!!

KateTheEighth · 05/08/2021 07:25

Where are you going?

I would delete the app, do lateral flow tests and go on holiday

FishfingerFlinger · 05/08/2021 07:25

I’ve been fairly cautious / compliant throughout this but I wouldn’t cancel a holiday for an app ping.

Might depend on the circumstances of the holiday - if I was driving to a self catering holiday then no way would I cancel. If I were going on a cruise or something high risk maybe I would think twice!

MissyB1 · 05/08/2021 07:28

Do not cancel your holiday! Delete app and go!

PluggingAway · 05/08/2021 07:32

Don't be so ridiculous!

Go and enjoy your holiday

Bryonyshcmyony · 05/08/2021 07:34

I wouldn't think twice about deleting the app and going.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 05/08/2021 07:34

do you have to do a fit to fly?
or a lateral flow?

PinkTonic · 05/08/2021 07:35

@TheWindOnTheMoon

Cannot think where at all. I haven't been anywhere other than the supermarket to do shopping and a café.

It was the app not track & trace. DH thinks turn app off, turn phone off & just go on holiday. But I'm thinking what if I really have got it & spread it around. I'd never forgive myself. DH & DS are both asthmatic. It's a nightmare.

If you look in settings on your app you might be able to figure out where by the exposure date and time your isolation expires. Then you can judge whether you might have been genuinely exposed. I’d feel that masked whizzing round the supermarket was different to sitting in a small cafe for half an hour or so. When I got pinged it was obvious from the timings that it was in a theatre. Since I’d been there for a few hours, I did the time. Had it been the cafe I went to earlier in the day I probably wouldn’t have because I sat outside and I knew I hadn’t actually been close to anyone.
Saidtoomuch · 05/08/2021 07:35

You haven't said how you are travelling and
where you are going overseas?

Jasmine11 · 05/08/2021 07:37

Take a LFT and if it's negative just carry on as normal. I didn't realise anyone still had the app and you know it's just advisory not compulsory right?

MrsHerculePoirot · 05/08/2021 07:37

You don’t get asked to isolate from a check in. Just advised if a positive case was there same day you were.

I would check on app what time and date the contact was and then you should be able to work out your risk and then you can make your decision based on that maybe.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/08/2021 07:37

Go and enjoy your holiday OP.

@Badbadbunny how is the app 'doing what it's supposed to do' when I could get pinged if someone in an adjoining flat tests positive?

ARabbitisaBunny · 05/08/2021 07:40

I was pinged - couldn’t work out why as I hadn’t had close contact with anyone. Long story short, discovered it was my next door neighbour who had tested positive and I had been told to isolate because of them. Hadn’t even seen them for weeks, but I always put my phone on a table by the window when I’m at home and their car is parked just outside, so the only logical conclusion is that their Bluetooth connected with mine as they were going out/coming in. I took a PCR and several lateral flow tests and they were all negative. I now switch the app off when I’m at home.

idontgetpaidenoughforthis · 05/08/2021 07:40

I'm with the 'delete and go' majority. In 11 days you wouldn't have to anyway!!

bumbleymummy · 05/08/2021 07:40

@PhilCornwall well the money clearly didn’t get spent on good developers Hmm

HelloMissus · 05/08/2021 07:40

It should tell you the date of exposure so you can check where and when it was.
I think like most people I’ll self isolate if I have proper close contact with someone with Covid.
But I’m not self isolating because I sat outside a pub three tables from a stranger.
