The phenomenon reported here by me and at least 4 other MNers, if replicated more widely*, could maybe have quite an effect on the numbers tomorrow!
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4314727-PCR-test-result-text-when-I-didn-t-take-a-test?watched=1&msgid=109673524#109673524

Took PCR earlier in the week, got quick result (negative for me, don’t know if they all are), but have had another text giving same result (slightly differently worded, so not an exact duplicate message)!

*Am assuming the NHS isn’t ‘targeting’ MNers!

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/08/2021 23:06

Thanks @boys3. (It’s Thursday tomorrow.)

@wintertravel1980

I dont understand why Bournemouth is so high!

Bournemouth and many other LAs in South West and East Midlands are done yet fully "through" the summer wave (in comparison to NE and most of NW). They have not been hit as hard as NE or NW.

Cases may still go up before they go down.

My guess is that Bournemouth's story might be similar to Lincoln's (large clusters in hospitality/nightlife sector).

Charminster, Winton and Bournemouth Central were all quite student heavy when we lived in Bournemouth, so it would seem likely that it’s nightlife/house party related.

oh dear @JanFebAnyMonth wishful thinking on my part. :) With school well and truly finished completely losing track of days of the week now.

There are now at least 25 posters reporting duplicate PCR result texts on the thread I linked to above. Am wondering if everyone who’s taken a test in the last few days has received an extra notification this evening. They all seem to be negatives.

Of course, whether this will feed into the test numbers for tomorrow, I’ve no idea. Or whether anyone will rectify whatever the mistake was.

There were always 2 emails; one about the negative result and one about updating the app with the negative result. Is this something different?

This is from some time back (tell me if I left any personal details on display!)

These are just the texts. I’ve only ever had one text and one email but maybe that’s because I’ve never had the app?

I’d be thinking I’d got something wrong but there’s now about 35 posters reporting the same thing. One does say they checked their NHS app and only one lot of results showing on there, so hopefully it’s just a text glitch and not a ‘whole record’ glitch.

Piggywaspushed · 05/08/2021 09:05

DSs have had two :one telling them they are positive and one telling them when isolation ends. Wording is similar.

Piggywaspushed · 05/08/2021 09:14

No idea where the Grin came from...

herecomesthsun · 05/08/2021 12:42

Re Bournemouth, it occurred to me

  • they were also about number 4 on the national infections about 6 months ago, so could there be an element of immunity wearing off?
  • there aren't many nightclubs - but there are a lot of flats, without gardens. So there might be more socialising indoors than in gardens, if for any reason just going to the beach, say, doesn't look a good option

Numbers pinged in last week of July fell hugely. Probably a combination of reasons?

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/08/2021 13:27

Apparently checking into locations has dropped too so the pings drop may be due to app deletions.

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/08/2021 13:36

Just doing 3 LFTs for me and DC and reflecting on how the instructions were not really designed with busy mums in mind, doing multiple tests.

Eg there could be a labelled space on the cartridge to write initials (a very obvious one really)
more in the Instructions about how to ensure swabs etc don’t get mixed up /cross contaminate. I know it says to wash hands before each new test but even that is hidden amongst all the other instructions.

I’m talking about the general public here, not used to working in labs or healthcare!

lurker101 · 05/08/2021 15:11

@JanFebAnyMonth there’s a section labelled “ID” on my test strips - someone could use a sharpie there if they were struggling

Piggywaspushed · 05/08/2021 16:10

Well, I have had my first encounters with test and trace today. These have not been good. Totally contradictory information. Tow different dates 6 days apart given for two cases in my house who tested positive on the same day and began symptoms a day apart. The one whose symptoms began earlier has been told to isolate til the 14th. The one he gave it to til the 9th...

Rest of the household have been told the 9th and then the 14th.

119 are very nice about it but we cannot get it sorted.

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/08/2021 16:33

Numbers up again today, second day running. 72 deaths, decreased hospitalisations.

wintertravel1980 · 05/08/2021 16:37

Reported cases are actually down week on week - 30,215 cases reported today vs 31,117 last Thursday.

I am now waiting for boys3 graphs (numbers reported by date of specimen). I find them the best indicators of what is happening in real time.

Bordois · 05/08/2021 16:37

Numbers are down on this day last week.

boys3 · 05/08/2021 16:41

fairly flat picture in terms of spec dates in England which is reflected in the 7 day average for cases. The stingy MN daily picture limit prevents me uploading the latter yet.

as such 7 day average to
