AbsolutelyPatsy · 19/07/2021 07:23

staff in the nhs will carry on

ballsdeep · 19/07/2021 07:24

If you travel to Scotland or Wales you'll still need one .
Many shops will still insist on masks. I wouldn't get rid of them so quickly, no doubt Boris and his band of merry men will bring mask wearing back by the end of the week

Pippa12 · 19/07/2021 07:25

Definitely will be- my DH Is currently positive and essentially asymptomatic. Found out by lateral flows at work- PCR big fat negative! 4 others at his work place the same- ticking time bombs!

ilovesooty · 19/07/2021 07:25

@redcarbluecar

Wearing one has never felt like entrapment, so not doing so won’t be ‘freedom’- the dramatisation isn’t really necessary. I’ll still wear one whenever it seems right.
Exactly.

If the toddlers want to enjoy the novelty then they can get on with it. I do feel really sorry for the clinically vulnerable and genuinely exempt though. This will make their lives much more difficult.

NotQuiteUsual · 19/07/2021 07:26

Mine is coming off! I'll keep one on me for when I'm at the check out or if anywhere gets really busy or if staff ask me to. I'm just going to take a measured approach to the whole thing. Wearing them in the heat makes me feel so sick, but at the same time I don't want to be a dick to others who might be worried. Balance and choice is the key.

daisypond · 19/07/2021 07:27

I’ll still wear mine.

endofthelinefinally · 19/07/2021 07:29

Rachel Clarke is on GMB right now talking such good sense.

NeverRTFT · 19/07/2021 07:29

Which train do you get? In London we still have to wear one.
I'll wear one even if I don't have to. It just doesn't bother me and I'm no longer used to sharing breathing space with people I don't know!
I'll be giving you and your kin a wide berth op 😁 but you do you and enjoy your freedom.

Oysterbabe · 19/07/2021 07:29

I don't use public transport but will be doing a maskless shop later. I'm a bit worried about being heckled.

PurpleParrotfish · 19/07/2021 07:29

@season2

Have you seen the case numbers in the UK?! Why would anyone willingly not wear a mask? As I mentioned on another thread the world is watching aghast at this abhorrent experiment Boris is conducting on the country.
This. Did you see the open letter from the top public health experts begging him not to do it? Or the 1200 scientists from around the world warning that encouraging Covid spread in a partially vaccinated population is the perfect way of getting vaccine-resistant variants. Hospital ICUs are filling up again in places, including with people who have been double jabbed. It’s not about whether you feel safe not wearing a mask, the virus doesn’t care what Boris says. Sensible precautions like masks were the best way to avoid another lockdown and more deaths, and now they’re getting binned.
SmallPrawnEnergy · 19/07/2021 07:30

Freedumb indeed.

Mummiepig · 19/07/2021 07:30

I work in a shop, I will still be wearing mine and I hope customers do too, they have a choice wether they come in or not, I don't, I have to work
We've been doing it for a year now, it's not that big a deal any more, I just feel that it's a bit of courtesy towards essential shop staff who have worked all the way through the pandemic
Thank you to any one who continues to wear a mask

RubaDubMum89 · 19/07/2021 07:30

I'll still be wearing mine in supermarkets and busy places but I can't lie, the relief that I don't have to wear it at work anymore is amazing.
I work in a restaurant kitchen and this weekend especially, with the kitchen pushing 50 degrees and wearing black chef scrubs, it's been hard to take!

nordica · 19/07/2021 07:30

Will be wearing an FFP2 mask so I have some protection too, given there will be lots of selfish people like you OP not bothering to be considerate to others.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 19/07/2021 07:31

@Silvercatowner

This thread is a good demonstration of why the government's plan to rely on people's common sense and community spirit isn't going to work.
Why? The majority of people on it are saying they will continue to wear it
Snailhaterz · 19/07/2021 07:31

I hate wearing the bloody things and was looking forward to this day a lot BUT rates are so high, and many people are so anxious, so I'll be carrying on wearing them indoors. I won't be a smug twat about it, though.

vagmons · 19/07/2021 07:31

I am not in the UK and in a place with low covid rates but continue to wear a mask because I have read and understand the science and want to minimise my risk of catching and/or spreading COVID until more people are vaccinated.

Until recently I lived in a country now experiencing a terrifying surge. They have run out of masks. People are being turned away from hospitals and dying in the street. The bodies are piling up. Whining and moaning about wearing a mask is so utterly repellent. Open your eyes. Read a newspaper. Look beyond the end of your own nose.

SemiFeralDalek · 19/07/2021 07:31

@AbsolutelyPatsy

i thought you had to continue on public transport? or was that just london and manchester?
Metrolink in Manchester are still asking people to wear them or face a £100 fine.

The fact that it's the security staff who would have to fine people, which makes it completely unenforceable, is shit.

Please spare a thought for transport workers.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 19/07/2021 07:31

It's still mandatory in Wales, so I'll still be wearing mine. I understand the reluctance of people who have to wear them in work for long hours, or who have had previous trauma which exempts them, but for me personally it's minimal impact to wear them in shops/on public transport. Especially it makes someone else feel more comfortable, I'm happy to do it.

Theworldisfullofgs · 19/07/2021 07:32

SmallPrawnEnergy

Liking your work.

Silvercatowner · 19/07/2021 07:33

The majority of people on it are saying they will continue to wear it

And quite a few saying they won't.

Foxhasbigsocks · 19/07/2021 07:34

I will be wearing as will dp and both dds (both under 11)

MirandaMarple · 19/07/2021 07:35

It could walk itself to the bin.

BUH BYE!!!

AllisoninWunderland · 19/07/2021 07:36

I hate masks but I’m going to continue to wear in enclosed spaces such as if I have a medical appointment or in very enclosed spaces.
I’ll keep carrying one in my bag and car and just use my own judgement as to the situation.
Deep down though I’m glad to now have the choice.

TheVampiresWife · 19/07/2021 07:37

I never have (trigeminal neuralgia, exempt) but if I did, I probably would in crowded indoor areas for a while longer (cases are very high where I am). An empty top deck of a bus, for example, probably not so much. DH and DD are still wearing theirs in crowded places.

I've no problem with what anyone else does. There's been far too much nastiness, division and abuse on this topic and it's time people piped down.
