Civic duty of care is something people talk about, but largely people don't care about others.

This civic duty has only happened during covid, so only covid matters.

I’m not wearing a mask anymore in most instances, don’t wear one in Waitrose for example. Some people may think that’s a bit selfish though I am double vaccinated, but I feel like others have treated my concerns lightly earlier in the Covid cycle so now I’m not that bothered about being perfect to make other people feel safer.

My son works in waitrose on the shop floor, no screen to protect him, only his mask. People all around him no masks and no distancing. His first shifts were last weekend in the "no mask" world and guess what - he now has covid. He is too young to be vaccinated, I only got my second vaccination last week so not fully covered and I have a baby daughter who is also not protected. So I just want to say thanks to people who are all of the "well I'm vaccinated I will do want I want group", we are now isolating for 10 days, holiday next week out the window and my son now cannot go and see his dad

And that isn't anyone elses fault, stop guilt tripping.

If this was response to my post, I've just written how I feel. He isn't out unmasked and mixing, just trying to do his job, wearing a mask and earn some money, I would have little sympathy for him if he was out and about mixing unmasked and no distancing, he knows the risks and he would have made that choice. As it is that isn't the case for him.
Againstmachine · 30/07/2021 20:41

That is his choice, everyone else is following the rules.

Watapalava · 30/07/2021 20:47

There’s no rules saying masks in shops and supermarkets

Near me on a week day they’re dead so why would I wear a mask

He could get covid off a door handle anywhere

If he’s had no vaccine and you have had only one it’s becausw you have a minuscule risk or covid so stop stressing

The baby being unvaccinated is not e en worth a mention since their risk is almost non existent

Againstmachine · 30/07/2021 20:51

Yeah pretty much any adult had had access to vaccine, in my area they are pushing it for everyone.

One person’s idea of “guilt tripping” is another’s Covidiotic exceptionalism entitlement. Small wonder there is still not containment let alone eradication of Covid. And yes Covid is impacting treatment of other treatable illnesses so more lives and livelihoods negatively impacted from all of society’s ills. We need to mitigate Covid to have capacity to treat all of the ill and vulnerable. How long will retail staff etc be available (not just pingdemic) but not fall ill at their workplace because of inconsiderate I am not guilty of any harm types. It’s either survival of the fittest herd immunity with collateral deaths and illness or it’s we need to be smart and considerate as this is not a one person (apart from super spreader) issue but a community collective respect for health and safety issue. There is no legal civic duty of care as some people have morals others not so much. This collective behaviour will just prolong the pandemic as a short sighted total sum lost attitude. Double vaccination is only for some of the population not those in younger age groups or with medical complications. Think before you carry on potentially untested but asymptomatically super spreading!

Againstmachine · 30/07/2021 20:55

Can you truly paragraphs

Againstmachine · 30/07/2021 20:55

Try.

Kayjay2018 · 30/07/2021 21:01

I am fully aware there is no legal requirement any more. I was just trying to say that not everyone has had the chance to be vaccinated, and no one knows peoples home circumstances or family members health. Hopefully we will all be ok, none of us know how someone is going to respond to covid. I don't see the harm in, if you can, wearing a mask when shopping (or anywhere else) if it reduces chance of transmission ( and I believe that as vaccinated people are likely to have lesser symptoms but may still be contagious, they may be more likely to spread it completely unaware)

For reference if he has picked it up from a door handle, then it was a waitrose one, he really has been a lazy teen this week and not been out (and thankfully ignored my incessant nagging to get him out of the house and meeting his friends)

Finally, I can't make anyone feel guilty if they are happy and comfortable with their own decisions (and I really wouldn't want to) I'm sharing my very recent experience of it being transmitted in a supermarket and the impact that's having on my family. I'm hoping he gets it mildly and hasn't transmitted it to us, no one relishes the thought of being unwell and looking after a moody teen and active 1 year old.
