They could infect you with covid. But wearing a mask protects other people, so you are more likely to infect them.

ParrotShoulder · 19/07/2021 07:11

@AbsolutelyPatsy

The London mayor is the only mayor with the power to make them compulsory apparently, Manchester is recommending people wear them on public transport.

season2 · 19/07/2021 07:11

Have you seen the case numbers in the UK?! Why would anyone willingly not wear a mask? As I mentioned on another thread the world is watching aghast at this abhorrent experiment Boris is conducting on the country.

NCnotmyusualone · 19/07/2021 07:11

@ItsVousNotMoi

I guess I'm being a bit stupid not to wear one in certain places. It's just been so hot and unbearable
A bit stupid and incredibly selfish IMO. You understand that 63% of recent deaths have had at least 1 vaccination, and almost half had had both? It is still the elderly and medically vulnerable dying in this group, and wearing a mask in enclosed, or crowded spaces is hardly an enormous burden to at least try to give them some protection.
Theredjellybean · 19/07/2021 07:12

I will not be wearing mine on train.
I take train Cornwall to London about once or twice a week.
For months there has been so li people on the train, often I wS the only person in the carriage ffs.
Yet still getting told to put my mask on by train guards.
I get really badly travel sick and the mask exacerbated it so much, I had decided to start driving instead of using train.
Not good for the environment but I was fed up of vomiting for several hours because jobs worth train employees couldn't use some common sense... If there were lots of people in my carriage I would put mask on.. But if not I want to take it off.
I now will not wear one... Very happy

araiwa · 19/07/2021 07:13

You're stupid to listen to Boris

Our rates are much lower here than England and we still have to wear masks when outside of home plus lots of other rules. And it's still spreading and spreading quicker.

England rule change is batshit

MareofBeasttown · 19/07/2021 07:14

@AbsolutelyPatsy

i thought you had to continue on public transport? or was that just london and manchester?
You do on TFL, but half the carriage is not bothering.
MostlyMaple · 19/07/2021 07:15

I will wear mine in medical settings only.

YANBU OP - enjoy your mask freedom!

Parttimemostofthetime · 19/07/2021 07:15

I'd definitely wear one on public transport. Rates are really high here. I'm going to tesco and will wear one. I've had my second jab but only last week so I'll definitely wear one for another week or so and then depending where I'm going I'll wear one to

Yummymummy2020 · 19/07/2021 07:15

I’ll be wearing one. Nothing will have changed in that regard for me. I believe they protect the people around me and give me some protection too(I have a good one) so with the rates high I don’t want to bring it home as we have a newborn and toddler.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 19/07/2021 07:16

I will wear my mask in shops, though I wish we didn’t have to. Here in London it’s still mandatory to wear a mask on the tube. And I understand why but I do just think - for how long? It’s not been mentioned in any of the news reports about it - just that it will continue to be mandatory. It’s so depressing to think of wearing masks indefinitely of for years to come.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 19/07/2021 07:16

does this means you can try clothes on in the shops?

Imnothereforthedrama · 19/07/2021 07:18

I’d love to say I won’t be wearing one but so many places are saying they want you to wear one like shops / workplace and I don’t want to be a dick and make anyone feel uncomfortable so I’ll just use my judgment .

5lilducks · 19/07/2021 07:18

Some supermarkets have asked customers to wear masks if possible. Transport for London have asked passengers to wear masks so of course I will be wearing my mask. In fact, I will keep wearing my mask in enclosed areas out of courtesy to others. I don't see it as freedom day, I see it as the day of the gamble. This could all backfire, and i'd rather be part of the solution if I can.

AngieBolen · 19/07/2021 07:18

I have two colleagues quite poorly with Covid. One is double vaccinated. To me not wearing a mask in a crowded train isn't freedom, it's rudeness at the moment. But go ahead and do your thing.

listsandbudgets · 19/07/2021 07:19

I'm wearing mine on public transport but it will do no good. I live in an area where compliance has been low and vaccine takeup poor. ( I'm double jabbed)

Its going to be horrible and if the tier system returns we will find ourselves in tier 3. DD goes into year 11 in September and she's really worried now having already missed loads of year 10.

I fear for many it will be a short lived freedom Sad

Stevearnottsbeard · 19/07/2021 07:19

My company have told us to carry on wearing them, although to be fair, we all said we were going to continue wearing them anyway. We've also been told to gently encourage our customers to wear one whilst in our shop as we have to get quite close to them. I'm really not keen on the idea of being surrounded by non mask wearers indoors

MolyHolyGuacamole · 19/07/2021 07:19

🙋🏽‍♀️

I don't take public transport often though, I might still wear it on there. But in this heat I'm grateful to not have to wear it all the time in doors!

warmfluffytowels · 19/07/2021 07:20

@AbsolutelyPatsy

does this means you can try clothes on in the shops?
You've been able to do that for months.

I won't be wearing mine. I felt really dizzy in it on Saturday in the heat.

PiddleOfPuppies · 19/07/2021 07:21

Very much looking forward to working in a hot, noisy factory without masks for the first time in a year. I'll be able to breathe and lipread again. It has been unbearable in the heat - the masks get so sweaty my face is sore. It's all very well spouting the "It's not a massive inconvenience to wear a mask" when you're putting it on to pop into Tesco. It is a massive inconvenience for those who have to spend 12 hour shifts in them and those who rely on lipreading. I will never wear one again and I don't care if that makes other people feel uncomfortable.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 19/07/2021 07:21

I’ll be wearing one, I don’t want covid nor do I want the CEV to be worried about going out. Shall be avoiding as many indoor places as possible as suspect many will not be wearing one. I feel for the staff of places too who may not be onboard with no masks.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 19/07/2021 07:22

oh the charity shops changing rooms are still closed, perhaps they will reopen today

Silvercatowner · 19/07/2021 07:22

This thread is a good demonstration of why the government's plan to rely on people's common sense and community spirit isn't going to work.

cookiesandcreamm · 19/07/2021 07:22

We have to wear on the train in the NE which is fine and I'll wear when I think it suits, doctors, dentists etc

MyMabel · 19/07/2021 07:23

I mean, I won’t worry if I’ve forgotten my mask. But I will still carry it; I think people are forgetting that businesses can have their own policies. Some may still require you to wear a mask, so it’s no good throwing all your masks in the bin. It’s still early days, and covid is rife in some areas too.

Wearing a mask is doing me no harm.. plus I’m worried I’ve forgotten how to smile at people!
