It's a bit like repealing the drink driving laws in favour of relying on our fellow citizens' voluntary compliance with a guideline. Remind me why that isn't a good idea?

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 19/07/2021 07:58

Me!!!

I’ll wear one on the rare occasion I go on a bus or train or use NHS services.

Might put some extra bright lipstick on today

luckylavender · 19/07/2021 07:58

@EmRata95 - you only had one mask?!

Nojobforoldmums · 19/07/2021 07:58

I am still wearing mine in crowded places, the odds it will help save a life may be small, but the impact of losing a life is great for whoever that random stranger may be. Its a small inconvenience for me in the scheme of things.

This pandemic certainly reveals people's true nature and values.

TheGenealogist · 19/07/2021 07:58

So envious of you English people ditching the awful masks. Queen Nicola intends to keep us wearing the things until Christmas.

0None0 · 19/07/2021 08:00

You’d be stupid not to wear I wear on public transport and in shops

enjoyingscience · 19/07/2021 08:00

I didn’t wear one this morning in the gym. Previous rules were that you had to wear one until you got into your ‘pod’ (lines drawn on floor) then you could take it off. Put back on to visit water machine, off again in the pod. It never really made sense, and involved a fair bit of magical thinking about the power of the lines on the floor.

Was quite nice to not have to faff putting it on and off again.

I think that’s the only place that will change for me though - work, shops, transport I’ll keep it on.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 19/07/2021 08:01

Certainly has, people thinking that others who they couldn't give a shiny shit about, who they insult on a regular basis, should want to help protect them. It's laughable.

MarchXX · 19/07/2021 08:01

"does this means you can try clothes on in the shops?"

You've been able to do that for months.
I won't be wearing mine. I felt really dizzy in it on Saturday in the heat.
@warmfluffytowels, all changing rooms have been closed for many months now, you cannot try clothes on in shops. Apparently you have to buy them, then try them on elsewhere, and return them if they are not suitable.

pleasestopscreaming · 19/07/2021 08:04

Nope not wearing it and on my trains people having been wearing them for ages

EmRata95 · 19/07/2021 08:05

@luckylavender yeah. Shoot me Grin

MrsRLynde · 19/07/2021 08:05

away - if you listen to the messages from the Public Health Directors, all the measures have some effect, and when combined, add up to make a big difference. Think you are making the wrong comparison - the question is how many more people would've become ill or died without them? If you are in the business of saving lives/preserving the health of a population then individual measures that reduce risk need to be deployed, even if, individually, they aren't 100% effective.

Kayjay2018 · 19/07/2021 08:05

As mum to a youngster working in a supermarket (who is not eligible for a vaccine) and with a 1 year old at home, it would be nice to think people would respect that wearing a mask can minimise the viral load that can be passed on if you are asymptomatic. It will be interesting to see if hospitalisations do remain where they are once people stop wearing masks or if they increase as people are passing larger doses of the virus on.

My son will be wearing a mask to protect customers sadly seems like people will not be offering him the same courtesy. He won't be stepping out of the shop frequently to get a breath of fresh air and remove the mask, he will be wearing it his whole shift.

No one knows how an individual will react if they contract covid, it may be mild, it may not be, and they may have people at home who are vulnerable. If only people thought about the bigger picture, wearing a mask is actually only a small thing to do but could have a big impact on someone's life

Nanalisa60 · 19/07/2021 08:06

Lucky you to be given the Choice, Queen Nicola has decided that we will still in mask for the foreseeable future.

No loads are open. I had many a shop assistant yesterday say to me gleefully, “just to let you know our changing rooms are open!”

To answer the question in your post
Selfish idiots

TabbyStar · 19/07/2021 08:08

There's none left. Those who've been left peniless because of lockdown weren't cared about by the mask living work from homers or the vulnerable, it anyone who was happy in lockdown so why would they expect those people to care about them?

This is also how I feel. I try to rise above it, but having been completely financially abandoned after having run a successful business for 8 years and now in debt and having people tell me that's my own fault, and people completely minimising the mental distress mask-wearing causes some of us I do find it a challenge at times to put others first.

LynetteScavo · 19/07/2021 08:08

@awaywiththefae

Just wondering… if masks really work then why have we been in and out of lockdown/seeing cases rise. I realise there are variants but surely a mask should prevent spread of all viruses, the fact they don’t surely means they’re useless?
Because the virus spreads more easily when masks are not worn. The virus is spreading in classrooms and among friends getting close inside.
Bringithome · 19/07/2021 08:08

Just been to tesco and everyone still was and distancing

FredaFox · 19/07/2021 08:09

I'm definitely wearing them on public transport and busy places like shops.
Just because we have "freedom" doesn't mean there is no risk and rates are going up and I'm expecting a surge due to the non mask wearers

I'll be shocked if our "freedom" isn't removed in a few weeks

Violetroselily · 19/07/2021 08:09

I'd still be wearing mine on public transport anyway, thankfully TfL have the same idea

I'll still wear mine in shops and crowded places. But I will be glad to not wear it in the sillier of places, like walking to the toilet from a table etc.

name6785 · 19/07/2021 08:09

I'm going to keep wearing mine until I'm double vaxxed plus 2 weeks, and will then reassess, hoping to ditch without too much social pressure.

Biancadelrioisback · 19/07/2021 08:11

Well all drs surgeries up here and many shops are still asking people to wear masks and the Tyne and wear metro so, tbh, I'll be keeping mine. I may be slightly more lax but I'll still be avoiding busy areas and confined spaces.

SuckItUpDave · 19/07/2021 08:13

@Kayjay2018 and that is why I'm wearing one. I may just be popping into a shop for 15 minutes but people working there have to serve and speak to hundreds of people a day
It's not fair on them. They saw us through this and I think a bit of respect and consideration should be given to them
My comfort does not top trump their safety

Pinchoftums · 19/07/2021 08:13

Been on a train and bus this morning glad to report same amount of people wearing them as last week. It is really only online I see people ranting about them. Most adults understand the risks and make a judgement call.
