Anyone want to predict when the next lockdown will be?

I am guessing last week of August/beginning of September, and schools won't be going back when they are due to!

Here are some facts for you, @SonnetForSpring (and @NannyAndJohn, for that matter).

The north east has consistently had the highest number of infections for weeks now but they're coming down. Now I know you're going to start wanging on about Freedom Day/lag and all the usual gubbins, but this is brilliant news. And that's a fact.

Anyone who's not celebrating this fantastic news needs to take a long hard look at themselves. I'm hoping this is the end of the exit wave. It would be incredible to get the worst of Covid behind us before flu season

Scotland was branded the Covid capital of the world a few weeks ago.

New cases are down from 4234 on 1st July to 1505 today.

TheVampiresWife · 23/07/2021 19:51

Also just saw on the BBC that cases have fallen today for the fourth consecutive day.

Arcadia · 23/07/2021 19:53

My DH works in a major city hospital, where we have v high rates in the community. Was just saying that those coming in are not in staying as long before being discharged, and are not suffering as many respiratory problems as previously.

This is the latest in the NE England.

The variant the Mirror refers to is one from Columbia isn’t it not a North East one because the second article is 2 weeks old

The 'latest' is that cases are decreasing. Hopefully this will help them decrease further and faster.

This article is from 8 July.

I think Sonnet had just Googled 'Covid bad news north east' and run with it (and not even bothered checking dates or whether stories about NE variants have been debunked).

I live in the NE, btw.

That's because the Football Effect is over.

We won't know the effect of the reopening for a week yet.

Ok...if you say so. Willing covid to disappear isnt actually a valid strategy.
annie335 · 23/07/2021 22:18

I doubt very much that we'll have another lockdown.

Well, football is over now, so presumably if that was the case we can look forward to cases falling from now on. As for "Freedom Day", I'm not sure that really made any difference to social interactions for the average person.

3asAbird · 23/07/2021 23:23

Whilst I want to be optimistic the figures are weird.
New High r rates released today
Zoe says 63k cases based on symptoms..

Just maybe problem with testing although loved to be proved wrong.
Plus potentially 600k plus people self isolating.

Anyone want to predict when the next lockdown will be?

Exactly

Mid/late August. End of Boris. But will next one be worse...

starfro · 23/07/2021 23:57

There won't be another lockdown.

Backofbeyond50 · 24/07/2021 05:23

Football isn't actually over though is it? Yes the big competition is over but the new season/pre season has just begun. I am hopeful it won't make a difference as outside but grounds will now be at full capacity with bars open et unlike previous test games.

TheVampiresWife · 24/07/2021 07:45

I'm not 'willing' anything.

I'm demonstrating to you that cases where I live - a covid hotspot - are falling rapidly. No more, no less.

The article you shared dated 8 July was about the existence of a variant which has since been disproved. The other ones were detailing extra help we're getting to increase vaccine uptake. We're still a hotspot, of course we are - but that doesn't change the fact that cases are falling here, and nationally also.

Sharing out of date 'news' articles and stories presented with no context doesn't change that fact.

cushioncovers · 24/07/2021 07:55

To answer the op question I think we will see some restrictions this winter. The government already said early on we will all need booster jabs for Covid in the winter, they were working on making it in tablet form rather than a jab I believe but until that's rolled out I think we will have winter restrictions, although not a full lockdown. Just my view on things.

Hopefully not for another 100 years if we get another pandemic!
