Will we be locking down again this year?

Sorry, I'm sure it's been done to death Blush

But do you think we will lock down again this year or are we done for now? Seems unlikely given the new blasé attitude of Boris etc - He seems to care less now

@PrincessNutNuts nope I tried Googling and didn’t find any hospitals in the NE

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/07/2021 20:27

Numb nuts is a bit paranoid

PrincessNutNuts · 13/07/2021 20:28

@Getyourarseofffthequattro

I'm sure you can type the words "Hospital" and "black alert" into Google as well as anyone to find the hospitals who declared it publicly

Only two and both in Scotland according to Google.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/news/health/hospital-emergency-black-alert-barnsley-hospital-b1870819.html%3famp

This is the first one for me

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 13/07/2021 20:30

Erm, that was three weeks ago and the article even said it wasn't due to covid Confused

Blessex · 13/07/2021 20:31

@PrincessNutNuts The spike in patient numbers is due to A&E sickness demand rather than Covid-related, The Independent understands.

Try again

TheVampiresWife · 13/07/2021 20:31

@nocoolnamesleft

Look what's happening in NE hospitals. And 20% of the people in ITU have had both jabs. Boris releasing all controls is insanity.
Yes, let's look, shall we.

We have had some of the highest number of infections for a good few weeks now. Infections have been driven by the young unvaccinated but as more are jabbed this will be less of an issue. And yes, lag etc, but this is where we are now.

You make it sound as if our hospitals here are on the brink of collapse which is clearly nonsense.

Will we be locking down again this year?
OliveTree75 · 13/07/2021 20:33

Isn't barnsley in yorkshire?

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 13/07/2021 20:37

@OliveTree75

Isn't barnsley in yorkshire?
Yes, south Yorkshire.
OliveTree75 · 13/07/2021 20:40

I live in the area of the NE with the highest rates in the country. Know so many people with covid atm. This is our local trust (so 2 hospitals). Low numbers, nobody in ICU and no deaths in months.

What point are you making?

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 13/07/2021 20:49

Rather, what point are you making @PrincessNutNuts?

Remember when it was like that before ... and then it wasn't?

And remember that presumably it's not a dedicated covid hospital so covid just adds to all the other pressures.

Would anyone like to lay out the reasoning behind the idea that hospitals won't struggle again so we won't have to have another lockdown to relieve them? Doesn't have to be @Blessex.

Precisely. Where has this notion come from that NE hospitals are overrun with Covid patients?
OliveTree75 · 13/07/2021 20:53

You said hospitals in NE are calling black alerts suggesting they aren't coping atm, which was untrue.

PrincessNutNuts · 13/07/2021 20:53

People not reading posts properly possibly?

PrincessNutNuts · 13/07/2021 20:54

Happy to be corrected.

Apologies for thinking Barnsley was in the North East of England.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 13/07/2021 20:55

You said this @PrincessNutNuts

There are hospitals quietly declaring black alerts in the places with the highest numbers already

And then told us to Google it. We did. It's not true is it?

It's not us misreading. It's you out and out making shit up.

TheVampiresWife · 13/07/2021 20:55

@PrincessNutNuts

Yes. This is what it was like last autumn, and what it's like now.

I'm sure you'll tell me this is wrong, or that lag isn't taken into account, or that it'll get worse (I concede it probably will, but nothing like the same scale as last autumn). But yes. I do remember when it was like that, and then it wasn't. And I can also see that the landscape is very different, now.

Did you really say that, Nuts? Because that's a blatant, out and out lie.

Well I thought it would be widely reported but apparently not.

I'm happy to stipulate that as I haven't provided a source we can safely dismiss it.

Shall I get the post deleted as misinformation?

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 13/07/2021 20:59

It is. Very close to my DM's home village.

PrincessNutNuts · 13/07/2021 20:59

I was replying to

which nobody, to my knowledge has said

rainbowfairydust · 13/07/2021 21:02

I think social distancing and masks will be back by the start of October... The reason will be because of the amount of kids off school/teachers getting covid again/long covid risks in school and the government wanting to vaccinate kids! They unlocked last summer and then locked down again... Same again this time but with less social distancing and masks, they want to test the waters... Which would be fine if they'd have actually increased funding and capacity in the NHS so they could deal with the extra stretches over autumn and winter!!!

Sallycinnamum · 13/07/2021 21:05

Having worked for the NHS in the past, they don't tend to 'quietly' declare black alerts due to a myriad of reasons but mainly because if the system is close to collapse the last thing any hospital wants is more people turning up wanting treatment for non urgent issues.

Happy to stand corrected if the system has changed since I left the NHS but I can't find anything related to the NE from the usual channels.
