Will we be locking down again this year?

Sorry, I'm sure it's been done to death Blush

But do you think we will lock down again this year or are we done for now? Seems unlikely given the new blasé attitude of Boris etc - He seems to care less now

Well done @Blessex and gang for calling @PrincessNutNuts and @nocoolnamesleft out for the total nonsense they are spouting.

This thread has made me laugh out loud and wake up up my puppy that was slumbering on my lap!

Thank you for the LOLs, and the satisfaction of seeing a fact-free doom-monger or two being eviscerated.

RD & E declared a Black alert last week, i think its dropped a level now, not all CV but it had an effect and we aren't yet in the tourist season.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-57746218

The NHS cannot handle even a small number of extra CV cases, its fucked basically, dealing with huge numbers of patients coming fwd for conditions delayed during LD, staff shortages and 5m to 13m patients waiting for surgery.... thats approx 8 to 20% of the entire UK pop.

NannyAndJohn · 13/07/2021 22:05

I'm just relaying the science, @UpSlyDown.

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2021 22:10

The good thing is at least the gloom and doomers don’t name change. They should really if they wanted to doom-monger more effectively.

frumpety · 13/07/2021 22:13

Do you mean 'lockdown' as in the first wave lockdown or do you mean a slight increase in restrictions to limit the spread type 'lockdown' ?

First type of lockdown is unlikely unless we get a very dangerous vaccine evading mutant strain, second is possibly sensible depending on the data at the time. Lockdown large or lockdown lite @Vindawoo ?

JellyBabiesFan · 13/07/2021 22:14

Not unless something more deadly mutates out of the current versions.

I think so because the NHS will be overwhelmed. Not just because of covid hospitalisations (I agree, the link between cases and hospitalisations is very weak now, but there's still a % of population not vaxed and with an epic rise in cases, you're naturally going to see a rise in serious reactions). But mainly all the issues caused by lockdown / covid: winter bugs resurfacing in summer as they were suppressed in winter, people reluctant to go to Dr with issues last year now presenting with serious issues, and also injuries etc sustained with people going overboard while out on the piss because they've not had the chance for months. Already hearing anecdotally what a mare it is from police and nhs staff.

Christ, I'm a cheery one, aren't I? But my spidey senses are tingling.

frumpety · 13/07/2021 22:22

I think they are paid posters. Paid by whom and why is more the question I’d like the answer to

Interesting premise, who benefits the most ?

ilovesooty · 13/07/2021 22:24

Suggesting people are paid posters because you don't like what they say is unwarranted.

Not us that’s for sure.
Vindawoo · 13/07/2021 22:27

@Coronateachingagain

Likely during winter if the variants get their way. Hopefully it will not be a children variant.

What is a children variant?

I'm really worried about another lockdown because of school closures, to specify my worry...

DS is disabled and there were a few weeks the setting just couldn't open because of staff levels etc. It was awful and a horrendous time Sad

Who benefits from the economic fall out of the virus if people choose to ignore the advice ? Not us that's for sure.

I’m not seeing any ‘advice’ from those posters.
CloudPop · 13/07/2021 22:33

@Getyourarseofffthequattro

I'm sure you can type the words "Hospital" and "black alert" into Google as well as anyone to find the hospitals who declared it publicly

Only two and both in Scotland according to Google.

And no suggestion that the back alert situations are as a result of covid. Maybe the lack of access to GPs and minor injury units might be a factor?

Sorry to hear OP. I hope you are trending towards normality now, even if this has still not arrived. I don't know if this virus has shown signs of seriously affecting young people yet and I hope it does not turn into one of those, science saying it should not. The mutations with this kind of transmissibility are likely to come, so let's see what it turns to in the winter.
Topseyt · 13/07/2021 22:34

@roarfeckingroarr

I won't obey if they do
Neither will I.

Obviously if shops, pubs and restaurants close then there will be no choice there, but I will absolutely be seeing my elderly mother, my sister and my daughters whenever they or I wish.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 13/07/2021 22:35

Ideally not but by necessity yes.

frumpety · 13/07/2021 22:38

Which posters are you alluding to @Sparklingbrook ? and sorry I should have been more exact when mentioning advice, as in Government advice, so get a vaccine if you can, wear a mask in certain situations ( depending on which minister you listen to ) generally don't go hell for leather after the 19th type thing and keep the swapping of bodily fluids down to a bare minimum, unless you are a minister Smile

peachgreen · 13/07/2021 22:39

The NHS workers I know have been given instructions to prepare for "the next lockdown" this winter. To be honest I was quite surprised by that. I think lockdowns are a thing of the past and the Government will just let it rip through the population now.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/07/2021 22:42

@Blessex

But why would we lockdown again if there hospitals are not full? There has to be a reason to lockdown.
Absolutely this!
frumpety · 13/07/2021 22:46

@Toddlerteaplease many hospitals are dealing with winter pressure levels of capacity at the moment without a big increase in covid admissions. This is about the capacity of the NHS in normal times and it runs at unsafe levels for many months of the year, it takes very little to tip it into 'Oh shit' territory at the best of times.

Notsowise · 13/07/2021 22:54

@peachgreen that’s quite different to the ones I know!

How do they ‘prepare’ for a lockdown? With an unknown date? I doubt the government even know at this stage.

I think the NHS are preparing for increased Covid but not sure how the prep for a lockdown?!
