Wait for euro final to be over and Boris with lock us down again. Are you going to follow the rules if he does?

No way after them letting the football go ahead.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 12/07/2021 17:53

Nothing to do with insider knowledge - if you are running a Covid-related speciality in a major trust you’re constantly looking at the data and the projected infection rates, especially in relation to beds, resources and scheduled surgeries. How do you think consultants do their job? My friend says she only spends two days a week on clinical work - the rest is administration, planning, case reviews, managing her specialty, and so on!

Garfunkle · 12/07/2021 18:27

My brother is a senior consultant on ITU ward. There is general unrest within his dept at the moment. Several staff have quit, so the dept is running on staffs willingness to work overtime, and the majority of remaining ITU staff are very uncomfortable with being pressured to have the vaccine yet being expected to treat patients who have refused the vaccine when they present with severe Covid symptoms.

It seems our NHS is in a very precarious position at the moment. Who knows what the future has in store for us?

I am so bloody annoyed, after listening to BJ’s latest update, that he has, in effect, absolved himself of any blame and has put the onus on everyone else. He is, without doubt, the worst PM in UK history. There is no opposition. Where is Kier Starmer? We haven’t seen sight nor sound of him.

Notsowise · 12/07/2021 18:49

@PurpleDaisies ICU doctor in a London hospital. I was basically just showing the pp that most people know someone in the NHS, all have differing predictions - doesn’t mean any of them ‘know’ anything, especially about future restrictions.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 13/07/2021 09:38

From Sky news today:

“Boris Johnson's decision to press ahead with easing coronavirus restrictions in England is "irresponsible", senior doctors have said - although a government minister has admitted COVID rules could return this winter.
The British Medical Association said easing restrictions risked "potentially devastating consequences".
BMA council chair Dr Chaand Nagpaul said: "It's irresponsible - and frankly perilous - that the government has decided to press ahead with plans to lift the remaining COVID-19 restrictions on 19 July.
"The BMA has repeatedly warned of the rapidly rising infection rate and the crippling impact that COVID-related hospitalisations continue to have on the NHS.
"Not only pushing staff to the brink of collapse but also driving up already lengthy waiting times for elective care.“

But I guess the chair of the BMA doesn’t really know anything about the NHS or the projected spread of the virus either. Hmm

@irresistibleoverwhelm you’re really desperate for another lockdown aren’t you?

Kazzyhoward · 14/07/2021 15:54

Keeping masks and SD next week, and not opening nightclubs will have minimal effect on the rates of infection. Rates have been climbing over the past couple of months WITH those restrictions in place.

If people want the rate of infections and infection numbers to fall, we need to go back a few months and start closing things again, i.e. pubs/restaurants, non essential retail, hairdressers, gyms, etc etc.

Is that what people want? They're deluded to think that some pretty minor restrictions like continued mask wearing will have enough impact to reverse the current rates of growth!

bizarreskull · 14/07/2021 15:58

yes, those places need to close, as shit as it is, and a lot of businesses will go bust, but we need to get on top of this properly, not a half assed attempt at lockdown again. Also the borders need closing properly, no holidays!

I assume you don't rely on one of those businesses to feed your children and keep a roof over your head?

Oh listen to yourself ffs.
TheKeatingFive · 14/07/2021 16:04

You can close everything you like, but people will still socialise together. Time to admit that humans are social beings and it’s not realistic to expect this much longer.

Never mind the people who depend on those businesses! Jesus some people have no idea!
bizarreskull · 14/07/2021 16:23

there will be nobody to run and shop in those businesses when a huge number of people are ill/dead

do people not see this? really?

RedRiverShore · 14/07/2021 16:30

Where is Kier Starmer? We haven’t seen sight nor sound of him.

Last I see was that he was at the Euro final on Sunday even though he deemed it unsafe for others

MoonbeamSprinkles · 14/07/2021 16:31

This isn’t March 2020 we now have better treatments, vaccines and know who the vulnerable are.

There isn’t going to be vast swathes of people of shop worker age dying, there just isn’t.

The problem now is how do we run these things while people have to self isolate.

PaulaPetunia · 14/07/2021 16:33

There do seem to be quite a few more ill people in my acquaintance. Ok they are young or vaccinated and getting over it without hospital but it's not all a sneeze and a PCR test keeping them home by any means.

Oh noooooooooo, we're all going to DIE!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me strength. FYI I've managed to get to Spain and back and remain Covid free. It can be done, and I'm very glad I did it.

This.

Should have happened weeks ago.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/07/2021 17:12

@NannyAndJohn is obviously another one who doesn't rely on retail or hospitality and doesn't realise that others do

Well fuck it if we're all going to die anyway I'd rather spend my remaining time having good times than cowering in a corner. Show me the nightclubs let's get this party started and go out with a bang Shock
Wellbythebloodyhell · 14/07/2021 17:49

It's very clear that some people are very narrow minded where covid is concerned and cannot see beyond it. Only covid matters nothing else, it can only come from arrogance or privilege with absolutely zero idea about the real world

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/07/2021 17:50

I sometimes feel as though I've gone back to April 2020 when I read some posts.
