Govt realises that loads of people getting covid might actually be an issue

Sam Coates of Sky News is tweeting that Whitehall is getting concerned about the sheer number of people who will be having to isolate in the coming days, some from getting covid, and some from having to isolate.

"One source said gvt modelling done under Hancock suggested this scale cd potentially compromise transport and healthcare"

"One government source called this another lockdown by the back door"

Apparently the plan is to make the app less sensitive so that fewer people have to isolate.

Stopping isolations increases infections so not necessarily a great solution.

I'm sure all the planning is well in hand though.

OP I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but name one bit of pandemic related planning this government have done well. Our non covid related for that matter!

Hi! We clearly haven't met before, I am definitely being sarcastic! Grin

It feels like they were so busy going 'well cases rising doesn't matter so long as hospitalisations and deaths don't go up massively' that they forgot that people with covid can't go to work.

That App is not for for purpose. I think people get a ping, isolate the first time then get rid of it. Would love to know how they plan to make it 'less sensitive'. Hmm

I don't know anyone who still uses the sensor bit of the app. We all got told to turn it off (and got told to ignore it anyway when it pinged due to close contact at school).

I know of someone on their 4th round of isolation (and obviously not at work) from that useless App.

I would love to know the % of people that get pinged that actually go on to develop Covid.

I get the feeling that he has barrelled in with a whole bunch of opinions that have been rushed through due to the July 19th deadline .

Surprised anyone still uses the app to be honest, especially as if you get pinged you have zero lego obligation to isolate, and it's inaccurate so who knows if you actually are at risk. We should have improved on the olde track and trace system.

They can make case numbers go down by making people not get the test so they don’t have to isolate.

Also by shutting the test centres. (Ours just closed, now it’s luck of the draw how far you have to drive.)

I’ve also been wondering what happens if the vaccines haven’t broken the link between infection/death, but have just increased the interval between infection and death.

These are the things I think about because I cannot trust my govt.

Exactly. Shops having to close and businesses. Post Office not delivering things, Supermarkets without toilet paper...

This pandemic is too complex for the majority to grasp or want to deal with. I don't think we have much hope in defeating it unfortunately. People seem to think it will just kill off all the vulnerable (which isn't them) They have no idea.
