Govt realises that loads of people getting covid might actually be an issue

Sam Coates of Sky News is tweeting that Whitehall is getting concerned about the sheer number of people who will be having to isolate in the coming days, some from getting covid, and some from having to isolate.

"One source said gvt modelling done under Hancock suggested this scale cd potentially compromise transport and healthcare"

"One government source called this another lockdown by the back door"

twitter.com/samcoatessky/status/1413224477450817536?s=21

Apparently the plan is to make the app less sensitive so that fewer people have to isolate.

Stopping isolations increases infections so not necessarily a great solution.

I'm sure all the planning is well in hand though.

Because the unions requested data on how safe it was for pupils and staff. And the government failed to produce this.

The government had the opportunity to do this and didn’t bother.

Bovrilly · 11/07/2021 12:40

@VenusTiger

There needs to be an open discussion on the idiot box by the mainstream about all the FOIs confirming the labs are amplifying PCRs at 40-45 cycles. That's it.
Eh?
mumsneedwine · 11/07/2021 12:46

Just out of interest, did the parents now wanting over 12s vaccinated also make a fuss about getting teachers vaccinated as a priority ? Most of my colleagues still only had one, so v unprotected in those unventilated, crowded hot sweaty classrooms. Even older teachers had to go back in March with no vaccine, because, you know, schools are COVID safe. Children don't transmit it. It's all just FINE.

noblegiraffe · 11/07/2021 17:26

"Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi tells T&G that hospitalisations could reach the level they were at in April 2020 by the end of August. Asked about SPI-M's three scenarios, with 3,000 admissions a day the most pessimistic: "All those scenarios are possible""

WTF is now going on that government ministers are saying 'yeah, it's going to be dreadful'?

I assume they're prepping people for tomorrow's announcement to not be FREEDOM...but it's a bit late?

Looks like they are starting to backtrack already?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 11/07/2021 17:36

Yes, l think they are backtracking. Masks will be expected to be worn inside.

SonnetForSpring · 11/07/2021 17:38

Definitely back tracking

CrinkleCrankle · 11/07/2021 18:12

@mumsneedwine. PREACH

Teachers are treated with such disrespect in our shitty society here in the UK

Unsoliciteddeckpic · 11/07/2021 18:21

Can't help but be totally unsurprised that they are starting to clearly back track today of all days.

ILookAtTheFloor · 11/07/2021 18:23

They're only back tracking because of the polls.

Which are a nonsense in my view. People say what they think the pollsters want to hear.

Nothing has materially changed with the actual Covid data.

Unsoliciteddeckpic · 11/07/2021 18:27

I agree the polls aren't great. But I don't think that's the point.

They insisted they were go ahead and already backtracking, the reason doesn't matter. It proves they absolutely will back track.

How far they will back track is anyone's guess.

HelloMissus · 11/07/2021 18:32

The polls may say one thing.
But boots on the ground today, say another thing entirely.
Everywhere is packed with people having a fabulous time!

If you refuse to wear a mask then you should refuse to go to hospital if you get COVID. Give the poor NHS staff a break.

If your covid is so bad you need to go to hospital, you should go to hospital regardless of whether you’ve been wearing a mask of not. No doctor or nurse would want a sick person who needs treatment to stay away. That’s not the way the nhs works.

Get over Covid and get on with your life

Profound and insightful there, Lourdes

Get over Covid and get on with your life

Surely that's been the point if the last 16 months. That not every body just gets over covid and gets on with their lives.

SquashMinusIsShit · 11/07/2021 20:49

@noblegiraffe

So what are people suggesting if they want to stop and reverse the current increasing infection rates?

If we look at the infection rates we can see it’s rising in school children, so closing schools will help there. Good thing 6 weeks of closed schools is already planned.

Rises in rates also linked to the football, so stopping large groups congregating to watch the football will help - oh, that’s already sorted from tomorrow.

The other group it’s rising massively in is the group who should be currently getting their vaccinations. So not removing restrictions which would put that group into nightclubs and instead massively focussing on getting them vaccinated before doing so would probably be a good idea.

It's not bloody rocket science is it, not sure why some of us get this but the dickheads in charge just appear to want to bury their heads in the sand Confused
WiseUpJanetWeiss · 11/07/2021 20:56

@FromEden

1 in 10 developing long Covid is going to utterly break is as a nation, the nhs and the welfare state

No, having millions of people (and growing) waiting for treatment due to lockdowns is going to break the NHS. Not covid, "long" or regular length.

They are waiting for treatment owing to lack of capacity.

If ICU beds and theatre recovery areas are full of Covid patients and staffed by redeployed staff there’s nowhere for the post op patients to go and no-one to look after them.

mumsneedwine · 11/07/2021 21:01

@PurpleDaisies but if you're so selfish that you don't wear a mask why should the medical staff have the extra work of looking after you. When you could have looked after yourself. By wearing a mask. I know they'd never turn anyone away because they are not selfish. It's just a shame some people are.

That is their job. People make rubbish health decisions every day, not just in relation to covid.

Pinuporc · 12/07/2021 07:50

The vaccines minister said it would be "advisory" rather than mandatory to wear masks on public transport and in crowded places.
Given that a large percentage of people can't/wont wear them when its mandatory I cant see it's going to have much effect

borntobequiet · 12/07/2021 08:00

Why are the unions not pushing for this.

The (teaching) unions have been sidelined, dismissed and treated with contempt by this government. (TBF they’re not much use anyway.)
If they pushed for child vaccination they would be demonised as actively wanting to harm children. This is because Us for Them and other politicised anti-mitigation groups are highly influential in government and media circles.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/07/2021 08:33

They are in Scotland!

Lemonmelonsun · 12/07/2021 09:20

The teaching unions did a fab job before the last lock down when the pm was insisting everything was fine and kids need their education.

They came together, worked along side each other and put a powerful challenge to the the government which helped to force their hand without question.
However unfortunately usually they are divided, polarised and too politicised to take notice of day to day.
Very defensive and just say anything to put down the evil tories.
