Be honest, would you self isolate now?

If you got a message saying you had been in contact with someone who has tested positive and were asked to self isolate, would you?

From the app? Not a fucking chance. It's useless, which is why I don't actually have it. So the issue is unlikely to arise. If it were track and trace, I'd avoid anywhere indoors but would go for quiet walks.

wasthataburp · 08/07/2021 09:32

No. Not unless I was quite unwell with Covid then I'd treat it like I had any other bug and stay away from people.

I would definitely not self isolate if I was just a contact. We need to draw the line somewhere. It's just not possible to live life isolating just because you were in the vicinity of a positive case. It's crazy.

ineedaholidaynow · 08/07/2021 09:43

@wasthataburp are you saying that if you had COVID but weren’t that ill with it you wouldn’t isolate?

ColettesEarrings · 08/07/2021 09:55

@EwDavid It is a legal requirement until 16th Aug yes, but most of us are saying we won't do it anymore just for contact.

Flowerlane · 08/07/2021 09:56

I can’t see how I would personally be asked to as I have never had the app and rarely leave my details anywhere.

If I was then I would decided on how closer contact I was before I isolated.

If the school asked my child to isolate I would begrudgingly do it as they do check - as they have done on the times they have isolated from school.

Thank you. We go on holiday on the 22nd and I'm not sure whether to just keep them off after the 12th or just risk it. Argh!

Topseyt · 08/07/2021 10:41

Nope. Not now that I and my elderly mother are now double jabbed and have been for weeks. We are both clinically vulnerable. We want to live, go out and see the world, support local businesses.

We've adhered to almost everything else for over a year now, to the extent of not even being able to be at my Dad's bedside in hospital when he died (not Covid related). We're done with it all.

I have the ridiculous app. I rarely if ever turn my Bluetooth on though, so it can't scan and ping me. I might delete it soon. I shall just pretend to scan into a venue if necessary.

Most schools don't check
ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 08/07/2021 11:03

Yes through the phone system, or a contact at nursery, but no from the silly app. It doesn't tell you anything.

tiltedtomatoes · 08/07/2021 11:08

Yes

Doyouforseeproblems · 08/07/2021 12:33

Only if I had a phone call. Even then I'd still walk my dog and go for a run in isolated places. Wembley last night was a bit of a watershed I suspect and sure that was what it was meant to be.

changingstages · 08/07/2021 12:53

yep.

wasthataburp · 08/07/2021 12:59

No if I had Covid i would stay home. But how would I know if I wasn't rather unwell?

chocolateoranges33 · 08/07/2021 12:59

No

LitCrit · 08/07/2021 13:36

@hownowbrowncowz

No. I pretend to scan the QR code, if I'm asked for my details I give incorrect ones. What an utter farce were made to dance to this shit whilst there are however many thousands of people mincing about in a football stadium. No way.
I understand that it feels infuriating watching Wembley crowds right now - but I just don't understand how you could possibly justify giving false details before this point.
Notstrongandstable · 08/07/2021 13:59

People saying they wouldn't isolate because of the football are being ridiculous..do you not understand these are controlled circumstances?
I understand you have to have the app to prove you've not been instructed to SI and have a negative test result. So the risk is low. Sure, the LFT could be wrong but it's more likely to be right.
If you've been asked to isolate there is a reason for that. You've been in contact with someone that has tested positive. You can see where in Settings in the app.
No wonder there is 30K cases a day with the stupid, entitled behaviour of British people thinking they are above the rules

nonono1 · 08/07/2021 14:19

I don't actually have the app, so no!

nonono1 · 08/07/2021 14:21

(If I did have the app and was told to self isolate, I would take the home tests you can get every day and if they tested negative I would continue to live my life. Obviously if I had a positive result I would stay home).

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/07/2021 14:22

What about if you had a call from Test and Trace?

Compliance with the app is not legally mandatory but compliance with a T&T call is.

nonono1 · 08/07/2021 14:26

Also.... what even is the app? Is it the same one you use to scan in to restaurants and other venues? If so then I do have that one, but have never received an alert as far as I'm aware.

I get why we have to scan into venues, but you don't have to scan when taking public transport or in shops, so if you came into contact with someone there, you'd never know (assuming you were asymptomatic) and wouldn't have to self isolate. I'm just curious as to why we have to do scan in pubs/restaurants but not the many other types of public places we can now go to?

nonono1 · 08/07/2021 14:26

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz if it's legally mandatory then I would self isolate!

CatRamsey · 08/07/2021 14:29

Nope

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/07/2021 14:37

If I had a call from T&T then yes but only because it's a legal requirement, not because I think it's right. I don't have the app as it crap and I'm not isolating on its say so

pommedeterre · 08/07/2021 14:39

Not for the app (now deleted for this reason). Proper track or trace or through knowing someone yes.

App I would do daily lateral flow for a week though.

Whats the diff between now and mid August and what's the difference between me and the sports players? All bullshit now.

Vargas · 08/07/2021 14:41

If I'd had proper contact with a positive case then yes, otherwise no.
