Be honest, would you self isolate now?

If you got a message saying you had been in contact with someone who has tested positive and were asked to self isolate, would you?

Yes

pommedeterre · 08/07/2021 14:42

Is it true that the app is not legally mandatory? Does anyone have a link for that?

TIA

There is no legal requirement to even have the app. Not everyone has or wants a smartphone that is capable of running it. Nor are those of us who do legally obligated to download it.

Nor am I legally obliged to have my Bluetooth turned on, so I don't. It drains the battery far faster and is also a security risk.

LimitIsUp · 08/07/2021 17:29

No - I didn't. I have had two vaccinations and when a couple of weeks ago the ping came through that I had been 'exposed' to someone who tested positive, I booked a PCR test. When that test came back negative as expected I went out for dog walks, gave my dc lifts etc. I did cancel a couple of appointments and avoided indoor venues though, but I wasn't going to stay under strict house arrest completely unnecessarily.

Previously (when not double vaccinated and during peak epidemic) I have strictly self isolated

flumposie · 08/07/2021 17:55

Not sure. I've had multiple cases in 6 of the classes I teach. Not once needed to isolate as a secondary teacher. So if I get pinged on the app what's the difference? Might just delete it now.

Justmuddlingalong · 08/07/2021 18:56

An interesting yet not shocking article regarding football fans requiring negative test results.

GlencoraP · 08/07/2021 19:58

If you are pinged by the app can you find out the day and place in which you were exposed?

beentoldcomputersaysno · 08/07/2021 20:05

I effectively am as DS bubble has burst so can't stay home alone as he's reception! He comes with on pick ups and drop offs where another parent walks/collects my DD from my car. We then rush home to start zoom (late) as is five minutes after drop off but 20 minute journey home on a good day.

Blueskytoday06 · 08/07/2021 20:20

Nope. Not on English version.
Honey12346 · 09/07/2021 12:36

No

pommedeterre · 09/07/2021 13:25

BBC News this am:

'The app is, and always has been, advisory'

WTF? That is not how it was presented over the last 12 months. They can shove their advisory app up my double vaccinated butt hole.

curlyLJ · 09/07/2021 15:10

@Notstrongandstable

People saying they wouldn't isolate because of the football are being ridiculous..do you not understand these are controlled circumstances? I understand you have to have the app to prove you've not been instructed to SI and have a negative test result. So the risk is low. Sure, the LFT could be wrong but it's more likely to be right. If you've been asked to isolate there is a reason for that. You've been in contact with someone that has tested positive. You can see where in Settings in the app. No wonder there is 30K cases a day with the stupid, entitled behaviour of British people thinking they are above the rules
They are not as controlled as you think - i know someone who went to Wembley on Tuesday and there was absolutely no instruction to test, no checks, no checking if double-jabbed etc. It's all a farce.

So no, I wouldn't isolate, especially given that the rules are changing on 16th August anyway. My DD is currently home because her school bubble burst but I am absolutely not keeping her cooped up indoors, I wouldn't take her anywhere crowded, but we've been for walks etc.

It's is extremely worrying if people think it is
SilverGlitterBaubles · 10/07/2021 08:37

@Justmuddlingalong This is exactly as I suspected as happening at the football, what a complete joke. Makes a complete mockery of everything when others are tying themselves in knots following the rules. I'm done with it all now.

ButteringMyArse · 10/07/2021 08:42

The way it works wrt the app not being compulsory is that generally in English law, if something isn't explicitly prohibited you can do it and if it is isn't explicitly compulsory you don't have to do it. There are occasional exceptions, the covid regs in March 2020 initially for example, but not here. Because there's no law saying you must have the app, it's optional.

If you think about it, there's no way it could be obligatory. About 10% of the adult population don't have smartphones. There isn't sufficiently good internet access in some areas for it to work efficiently either. If the app were compulsory, the state would have to supply everyone with a smartphone that had sufficient battery and capacity and ensure there was nowhere in England that it wouldn't work. Same if the other devolved nations wanted it too. Obviously not possible.

ButteringMyArse · 10/07/2021 08:43

Devolved governments I mean. Devolved governments, home nations. I've spliced the two!

Mummyme87 · 10/07/2021 08:54

I have the app turned off.

My eldest DS 7 is isolating due to mixing bubbles at school and someone has covid. I’m doing alternate day LFT on him, butn taking him out for exercise and if we need to go indoors somewhere he will wear a mask. In a weeks time he wouldn’t need to isolate so it’s bullshit that he has to now

Frazzled2207 · 10/07/2021 09:41

Definitely not by the app
Perhaps if contacted by test and trace but I can’t earn money unless I go to work so would be tempted to do daily LFTs
Son has just had a 10 day stint.
We took him for walks etc in uncrowded areas. Absolutely not acceptable for kids to be repeatedly put under house arrest when they don’t have covid.

Always been the case. It’s because the phone detects the close contacts but actually nobody knows whose phone is whose for the purposes of the app. Not legally binding because there is literally zero chance of them knowing it was you.
worktrip · 10/07/2021 10:50

No. I'm double vaccinated because of my job. I wouldn't go to work but I wouldn't stay in the house. Id walk on my own and not get close to people. I would also lateral flow myself every day

Covidatemyhomework · 11/07/2021 17:52

I would have isolated, yes. Up until I saw the ridiculous football crowds this afternoon in the news. Any compliance I previously had (and
i have always abided by the rules fully) has well and truly gone in the fuckit bucket now.

Watapalava · 11/07/2021 20:02

How can you not isolate from track and trace tho? (Not app)

It’s legally binding and they contact you daily don’t they? 1000 fine ?

HeartShapedBalloon · 11/07/2021 20:32

No. Can't afford to miss work.
