The mask police are out in full force. It saddens me what society has become Sad

Let's be blunt though, most people who say they are exempt aren't really. There are a tiny number of reasons to be genuinely exempt. As a GP I've probably taken at least 50 calls from people wanting an exemption letter for nebulous reasons. Every single patient who has come to see me saying they are exempt has discovered that amazingly they can wear a mask without dying of hypoxia or anxiety

Leaving aside trigeminal neuralgia, severe LD or autism and severe PTSD related to oral trauma/rape there are no genuine exemptions.

This will be irrelevant soon.

'And no, you shouldn't judge people with disabilities or health conditions, in answer to your question. You absolutely shouldn't. At all.'

Oh no, I don't! I know many people with genuine challenging conditions. I absolutely support them. I judge people who in a pandemic haven't done everything they could to reduce the spread, the ones with very mild conditions or more likely none at all.

So stop being so disingenuous, we all know they aren't all rape survivors and tgm sufferers. However as always those who aren't genuine spoil it for the very few that are. On a shopping trip if I saw the odd person I would not bat an eye. Sadly every other person practically thinks they are 'exempt'.

TheVampiresWife · 04/07/2021 19:30

@NannyAndJohn

Of course I'll still be wearing a mask.

25000 cases a day and rising exponentially. Set to be around 100000 by "freedom day".

Remember: just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

If you stick with it, one day cases really will hit 100,000 a day. I mean you've missed your June deadline but there's always 19th July. And if they're not at 100k then you can always pick another random date!
GoldenOmber · 04/07/2021 19:30

in my country we've always worn masks when we have coughs and colds

I think that’s a more reasonable ask than “everyone should wear masks always, indefinitely”.

Another absolutely disastrous policy decision in the UK.
England you mean?

Still wearing masks in Wales Star

It's strange that as a GP you're talking about exemption letters, given there's no such thing.
Postdatedpandemic · 04/07/2021 19:34

It is fecking amazing, I won't have to wash my hands either, I will be free to spread my bodily emissions where ever I want to.

Really?

Or you could do some research scholar.google.com/scholar?as_ylo=2021&q=covid+face+masks&hl=en&as_sdt=0,5

No, it's the judgemental tutters/spitters/abusive idiots who 'spoil it'. If they didn't assume that no mask = pisstaker, there wouldn't be an issue.
Postdatedpandemic · 04/07/2021 19:34

@Wildswim

Masks don't work and are harmful, especially to children. A study showed that masked children are breathing in dangerous levels of C02 - 7x the safe level.

Bound to be bad for adults too.

I stopped wearing one last year.

Peer reviewed proof please
MercyBooth · 04/07/2021 19:36

@sparemonitor Im 48 and still havent had my vaccine. Having seen the way some of the medical establishment has behaved towards people who are struggling (the NHS blue tick accounts on Twitter being one example) hasnt filled me with any confidence at all.
And there was no such thing as a doctors exemption letter anyway.
Btw the attitudes ive seen make me far far more terrified of living than i am of dying.

GirlAloud · 04/07/2021 19:38

When I wear a mask, I protect you. When you wear a mask, you protect me. When we all wear one, we protect everyone. Masks are a cheap, easy way of controlling & preventing infection.

Public health isn’t about ‘I’. It’s about ‘we’.

CallMeNutribullet · 04/07/2021 19:39

I will happily remove my mask the first day allowed.
They make me feel extremely uncomfortable, hot, like I can't get a breath and anxious. I have and will continue to wear them while it's the law but no I won't do so after that.
I do and will continue to give people space though and not go out if I'm ill.

I know many women who have had coil insertions and smear tests who have needed to remove their mask to cope with the procedure. Fortunately the nurse and/or GP present has understood that the benefits outweigh the risks.

I know there weren't GP exemption letters. It didn't stop people asking for them and it doesn't stop people trying to come to an appt with a made up 'exemption'

BonnesVacances · 04/07/2021 19:41

Notwithstanding those who have a genuine difficulty wearing a mask, I'd like to see those whingeing about wearing one come down with Long Covid. Utterly sick of people only thinking about themselves. What a shitty cuntry this has turned out to be.

Chillychangchoo · 04/07/2021 19:41

@GirlAloud

I don’t need others to protect me, that’s what I got a vaccine for which is overwhelmingly protective in its own right. Far more effective than a flimsy piece of material.

RocheLobe · 04/07/2021 19:42

I wear a mask as required, but it certainly isn’t easy, and I have no medical conditions or trauma. It’s because of my personal circumstances that I’m not just happily tripping about looking after myself whilst wearing a mask, it is hot and tiring and difficult to communicate. People who see it as no bother at all to wear a mask must only ever go to places and in circumstances where it’s lovely and easy for them.

You'd like to see someone get ill? Really?

I think you lost your right to the moral high ground right there.

In any case, I'm fully vaccinated and would happily take the risk of Long Covid. I'll be ditching my masks the moment it is possible to do so and you can tut tut from behind your medical grade mask as much as you like.

Why saddened?

Lots of countries have masks and if it help stops the spread and allows people out and about why is that sad? Surely we would rather people didn’t catch or spread it. It’s also a visual reminder that we are still living with it as SD seems to have gone out of the window for many.

There will be some that genuinely can’t wear masks but those will be very few compared to most of the population.

What vitriol. Really not good to see.

It will be optional soon so your bad feelings are going to be through the roof.

RocheLobe · 04/07/2021 19:46

I don’t need a visual reminder - my life is heavily restricted by covid rules as it is

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 04/07/2021 19:47

@GirlAloud - I’ve had both doses of the vaccine and covid within the last 90 days. So who exactly am I protecting by wearing a mask? The chance of me currently having or contracting covid is practically zero. To be honest, the chance of me coming to harm because I can’t see where I’m going (because my glasses have steamed up again) currently seems like a much bigger risk.

IcedPurple · 04/07/2021 19:50

Our lives have been dominated by this virus for the past year and a half. Why would anyone think we need 'visual reminders' of the wretched thing?
