@NannyAndJohn

The link is still there.

We just have to wait and keep our fingers crossed that it has been weakened.

How long do we have to wait?? Seriously surely we would be seeing a significant increase in the death rate by now. Its been more than 3 weeks since numbers started rising. Looking again at the data, going from numbers 3 weeks ago (approx 10000) and looking back to start of the alpha wave to a similar point (3/10) and then extrapolating forward 3 weeks to 23/10/20. We have an average of 300 deaths/day reported as opposed to an average of 17.43 now.
@TheVampiresWife I'm not terribly concerned. It's just an observation. I think I'll keep on wearing a mask just to annoy them.
Just to annoy who?

Whatever9999 · 05/07/2021 09:11

And it may just be a blip, but for the last 2 days the average death rate has actually been falling.

User135644 · 05/07/2021 09:15

People who say they just won't wear a mask after July 19th. What about at the pharmacy? the doctors? A hospital appointment? I'll still be wearing them there for the safety of others.

Public transport/shops I don't know.

They will probably still be required there I expect. So you will be the same as everyone else :)

I haven’t abused anyone who wears or doesn’t wear a mask but have received plenty of nasty comments on here about how pathetic I must be to find it difficult to wear one. I’m not claiming exemption, I wear one as required, but my personal circumstances and the things I have to do in my life make it very challenging wearing a mask, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.

Confuzzlediddled · 05/07/2021 09:29

I was waiting outside asda while my daughter collected a parcel yesterday, i was bored so i started counting.

83 people entered the store in the 5-10 minutes i was there, of that 83, 55 weren't wearing a mask.

obviously this was a completely non scientific study and a very small sample but there is no way on gods green earth that over 50% of people are genuinely exempt!

I know one exempt person of all the people I know in the world, my son, who has significant difficulties from Autism, he cannot wear a mask as it exacerbates the severe anxiety he feels and leads to a meltdown. My husband has anxiety and also has autistic traits, he was unable to at the beginning but he has 'trained' himself using a build up of exposure time.

My son wears a sunflower lanyard and has done since before the pandemic and I for one will be glad when disabled people can reclaim the lanyard for the original purpose for which it was intended, to signify the presence of a hidden disability and alert that the person wearing it may need additional time, assistance or just patience. it has been overtaken to signify mask exemption which it was never intended for and I am surprised that more genuinely exempt people aren't more annoyed at the people who won't rather than can't wear a mask making it harder for them!

Rinoa86 · 05/07/2021 09:30

I don’t care if people vilify me. Come the 19th my masks will be going in the bin. I only wore them as I didn’t want to go against the rules but that’s it. I never changed my masks daily and refused to spend my hard earned money buying loads. As far as I’m concerned anyway they were just for show and nothing else.

whatswithtodaytoday · 05/07/2021 09:43

I'll continue to wear a mask indoors until it feels much, much safer - probably next spring/summer. Given that everyone else will apparently be maskless, I guess I'll have to switch to N95s for protection, rather than the comfy fabric masks I've worn up until now because everyone wearing a mask keeps everyone safer.

That is of course unless I get Covid in the meantime... I'm sure it's only a matter of time, with cases rising so fast and a child in nursery.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 05/07/2021 09:46

@Cheshirewife

I will continue to wear a mask, as no doubt will ever other sensible, educated, considerate person who isn’t (genuinely) medically exempt.

Will no doubt be a helpful indicator of who the (unmasked) a**holes are.

This comment demonstrates the problem very well.

Who is the real "a**hole" here? Clue - not the person who is unmasked when there is no legal obligation to wear one.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 05/07/2021 12:21

I don't care if there's a legal obligation to or not, just like Sajid Javid and Alexander Johnson don't give a fuck if I get sick over and over again, maybe seriously, maybe not...

It's touching what faith some people have in the government to protect them. Actually no, it's just stupid. I'm alright Jack, I'll do what I like as long as it's not actually illegal. Fuck that shit.

IndigoC · 05/07/2021 12:32

There’s legal requirements and there’s being sensible? Hell if I’m getting on a tube without a mask right now, with rates skyrocketing and only having had one vaccine.

GoldenOmber · 05/07/2021 12:38

It's touching what faith some people have in the government to protect them.

It’s interesting you see it that way. From my perspective, the government has protected me by providing vaccines and by putting in emergency measures like lockdown so the NHS didn’t get overwhelmed.

Beyond that, I don’t want the government taking a legal, punitive approach to public health to ‘protect me’; I want it to give me information resources and let me make my own decision about what protects me. The same way it does with most other public health measures. I don’t think many of us would want the government putting legal limits on many units of alcohol we’re allowed to drink or how much junk food we’re allowed to eat or how much exercise we have to get, and I don’t see them failing in their duty to ‘protect’ me by not having laws around that.

(and yes I wear a mask.)

Would be nice to get to a point where nobody’s abused for wearing a mask or not wearing one, and nobody assumes they know what broader views other people hold on covid based entirely on whether they’re wearing one or not.

Cafeaulait27 · 05/07/2021 13:06

Well said @GoldenOmber

MaudesMum · 05/07/2021 13:34

I'll be very happy to stop wearing them when they serve no useful purpose, eg nipping in and out of uncrowded shops, sitting on empty railway platforms, queuing outdoors. I'll continue to wear them when its useful both to myself and others, eg travelling on trains/planes and so on. I'd also be happy to wear one in the theatre or cinema if that meant they could go back to full capacity and actually make some money.

gosh absolutely this. It makes me feel really very sad that anyone is getting abuse for having a mask on/not having a mask on. I was abused a few weeks ago for wearing one and it was really upsetting. I'd never dream of confronting anyone for not wearing one.

If you want(ed) "protection" you needed N95s all along.

Agreed.

I can't wait not to have to wear a mask, but honestly couldn't care if others choose differently to me. We all do what we think is right for our own situation.

No one should get abuse thrown at them for their choice re masks.

Why can't you wait?

Are you deeply attracted to the concept of potentially infecting people?

Do you wish to help Sajid Javid reduce the social care bill?

Why do you wish to become an agent of infection?

What do you think that face masks do or don't do?

Perfectlystill · 05/07/2021 22:52

It's pathetic
