It was soooooo predictable something like this would happen. I will not be wearing one.
Daisy829 · 04/07/2021 18:09

I’m happy to wear one but I’m happier not wearing one! I’ll certainly wear it if I’m asked to but it’s my preference not to.

TheVampiresWife · 04/07/2021 18:10

@Cheshirewife

I will continue to wear a mask, as no doubt will ever other sensible, educated, considerate person who isn’t (genuinely) medically exempt.

Will no doubt be a helpful indicator of who the (unmasked) a**holes are.

And how will you know who's exempt and who's an uneducated, inconsiderate arsehole now that those of us who are exempt will no longer be wearing lanyards?

This is exactly the rubbish I'm talking about. The mandate may be ending but the mask police are hoiking their judgy pants in readiness.

TheVampiresWife · 04/07/2021 18:11

How are random strangers responsible for your health?

A billion times this, and I'm CV.

TotorosCatBus · 04/07/2021 18:11

People feel powerless and see mask wearing as one way that they can make a difference.

It's like the people on here who compost their food, have one child because the world is overpopulated or boycott Nestle. It makes them feel like they are making a difference when in reality the world is going to remain overpopulated and Nestle will make mega profits etc

(BTW I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't recycle etc but it's more about an individual's contribution meaning very little when other countries are creating more pollution as a result of getting richer)

Arsebucket · 04/07/2021 18:11

I’ve always worn one when ever i’ve had to.

But walking through the school grounds when it was cold and seeing my breath coming out (through it, out the sides) like it would have if I wasn’t wearing one just made a mockery of the whole thing.

Chillychangchoo · 04/07/2021 18:11

They can literally fuck the fuck off.

I’m done with the bastard face nappies.

What a judgemental, sanctimonious post. So now not wearing a mask makes someone an asshole? I don’t think so.
Whatever9999 · 04/07/2021 18:11

@megletthesecond

It saddens me that some people have a problem with masks. Wearing a mask doesn't affect me at all and helps a tiny bit.

Unless of course you fancy looking after my children if I get ill? Then ill crack on without one.

See my post above. Also those with hearing impairments that rely on lip reading, those who have suffered trauma that involved someone having their face covered.
Imnothereforthedrama · 04/07/2021 18:11

No I don’t think they work that’s why they are getting rid . I’ve heard the having to scan in when you go somewhere is scrapped also a complete waste of time .

Arsebucket · 04/07/2021 18:12

@Allmyarseandpeggymartin

Do they work though? Really? What would the material difference been in the death rates if we’d not been wearing crumpled up bits of tatty fabric that have been shoved in coat pockets and gathering fluff in handbags all winter?

I’m sceptical honestly

Quite.
TotorosCatBus · 04/07/2021 18:13

Face mask policy in England has been all about virtue signalling. If the government were really trying to mitigate spread there would be stricter rules like the clinical grade masks required in French schools.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 04/07/2021 18:13

I lost one whilst on holiday last week. Saw it as a sign. Wink

megletthesecond · 04/07/2021 18:14

Random ill strangers spitting while they talk spearing heaven knows what affects me if I get ill. As it does the other way around. I'll keep my germs to myself and vice versa.

I don't have time to get ill. Lone, working parent with no back up.

TotorosCatBus · 04/07/2021 18:15

I believe that properly fitted clinical masks help but face coverings are very limited use. It will catch some of the droplets when we sneeze etc so is better than using a hand.

Aloethere · 04/07/2021 18:17
@Aloethere it's sad because those who don't want to wear a mask, or those who can't, will be vilified after the 19th. Exempt people have had it for a year and there was the hope that when the mask mandate ended, so would the judgement and abuse. Unfortunately it looks as if that won't be the case.
Ah right, I'm not in the UK and everybody wears masks here so I wasn't really aware that people get abuse in public for not wearing them.

How did you manage when you got ill pre-covid?
SueSaid · 04/07/2021 18:23

'Even the lanyard can send me into overload'

This is awful. What do your mh hcps suggest to help? I've heard of desensitisation exercises and deep breathing/visualisation can be very effective Flowers.

I wonder if it will just become the norm like in many other countries that they are worn in high flow areas like public transport.

ilovesooty · 04/07/2021 18:23

Oh, the mask police. All over the place apparently.

Once restrictions are lifted people can make their own choices. Why are people getting worked up about it one way or the other? Just choose for yourself and let other people get on with their choices.

luckylavender · 04/07/2021 18:24

@TheVampiresWife - the pre Covid question is very interesting most people I know reporting no colds or flu this winter. And yet they don't work...? Appreciate you're exempt.

luckylavender · 04/07/2021 18:25

@Chillychangchoo - that statement says more about you than anything else.

RaindropsOnRosie · 04/07/2021 18:25

I don't care what happens with masks, as long as people stop wearing the bloody sunflower lanyard to show they're mask exempt.

IcedPurple · 04/07/2021 18:26

It's a bit disingenuous to claim that masks were the reason for the reduction in respiratory illnesses this winter. They may have been a factor, but given that there has been some form of lockdown since last March - with restrictions pretty tight during the winter - it's impossible to say that masks made much, if any, difference.

ilovesooty · 04/07/2021 18:28
@Chillychangchoo - that statement says more about you than anything else.
It does. Referring to face nappies sounds really childish.

Viciouslybashed · 04/07/2021 18:29

Will hospitals ask people to wear masks still I wonder? If so why do shop workers etc not deserve that protection still.
