The mask police are out in full force. It saddens me what society has become Sad

An FOI asking how many mask related incidents A and E have seen could be interesting

Flaxmeadow · 04/07/2021 19:51

Why are people so bothered and 'saddened' by other people wearing a mask. I don't get it

BonnesVacances · 04/07/2021 19:52

Not looking for the moral high ground tbh. Folks couldn't give a shit if people judge them for not wearing a mask. I couldn't give a shit if folks judge me for my vitriol.

DD(19) won't be able to go out after 19 July because people won't wear a mask. Not that she would be able to anyway as she's been fucking bedbound since catching Covid in May last year and is at serious risk if she catches it again.

It makes me feel physically sick to see people's blasé attitude to catching and passing on a virus to others. They deserve the consequences and that includes catching it and suffering the same fate. So judge me all you like. It'll be no more than I massively judge those who bleat about wearing a mask.

TheVampiresWife · 04/07/2021 19:52

@BonnesVacances

Notwithstanding those who have a genuine difficulty wearing a mask, I'd like to see those whingeing about wearing one come down with Long Covid. Utterly sick of people only thinking about themselves. What a shitty cuntry this has turned out to be.
You'd like people to become ill with a debilitating condition? Gosh. You seem nice.
motherrunner · 04/07/2021 19:53

I’m a teacher. I’ll continue wearing a mask. Whether it protects me or not I don’t know but as I’ll be working with the unvaccinated population I’ll just welcome the placebo effect to enable me to go into work each day.

GoldenOmber · 04/07/2021 19:53

The idea that masks are visual reminders of the pandemic is probably true, and also one reason people don’t want to hang on to them any longer than necessary.

If you want people to voluntarily keep wearing them longer than they’re obliged/would choose to, might be worth making a compelling case for it that goes further than “urgh you are so SELFISH, why are people so awful”.

‘Bleat’

Tough it’s going to be optional.

Has she been vaccinated?

You can judge all you like. If reports are true, in 2 weeks time masks won't be compulsory so the vast majority won't be wearing them. Your 'judgement' is neither here nor there.

Ah long covid group are here.

It's always about post viral sickness as it used to be called.

It's funny most people I know who have have had covid were most pious about it.

23andbroke · 04/07/2021 19:55

I sometimes don’t wear masks and no one bats an eyelid. I don’t know where this “vilified” or “treated like a leper” rhetoric has come from. No one treats me any differently, or if they do they’re nicer lol

I do have a valid mask exemption but I can still wear masks if I want to, the general public/staff really don’t care if I wear one either way.

luckylavender · 04/07/2021 19:56

@Chillychangchoo - stop using their language then. You know exactly what you're doing.

Well DH had covid and is suffering from breathing problems 6 months afterwards but still thinks some of the measures like masks do nothing and are daft. And he doesn't wish anyone to suffer but accepts that viruses affect people and in different ways.
RubyGoat · 04/07/2021 19:58

I’m going to continue wearing a mask inside shops as long as there are cases in the local area. The lifting of restrictions will just mean I don’t have to return home or buy a disposable if I forget it, which has happened a couple of times.

BonnesVacances · 04/07/2021 19:59

@MarshaBradyo Yes she has. As has my sis who has Covid again, despite having it last year and being double jabbed. DD has been told by two consultants to carry on shielding because she's still at risk. But crack on. Burn the mask, feel victorious and pass it on. Woo hoo!

Not sure what I’ll do yet, I still think you are going to be murderous most of the time as the rules are changing.

Tough really, no one will be doing what they shouldn’t be.

MercyBooth · 04/07/2021 20:02

This thread is an interesting read with the benefit of hindsight.

I don’t have a problem wearing a mask, and am likely to continue to wear one anyway, no more germs being coughed over me direct now!

No doubt we will go back to wearing them come winter and the next wave as we learn to live with it

Other countries manage fine wearing masks. I accept it’s difficult for some, but I really don’t see the issue for the majority

You really believe that wearing masks would stop people catching Covid ?

RocheLobe · 04/07/2021 20:08

I would mind a lot less if the message were “look we know it’s challenging going about wearing a mask and we’re really grateful you’re doing it despite the fact that it makes many activities very difficult for a number of people in different circumstances”

But it isn’t. It’s

“Selfish arseholes who want to get rid of masks, I barely notice a little bit of fabric over my nose and mouth, I’m saving a fortune on lipstick, la la la, selfish fuckers want to pretend covid isn’t here any more and put me in danger, in other countries no one moans and everyone thinks of others, selfish selfish selfish”

RocheLobe · 04/07/2021 20:09

FWIW my mother is from a European country, where I lived as a child, and loads of people from all walks of life there moan about masks. And there are exemptions.

"Countries" don't wear masks. People do. And in the vast majority of cases, they only do because they have to and won't wear them a moment longer than that, regardless of where they happen to live.
Stuffin · 04/07/2021 20:15

It's interesting isn't it. Shared a bed, kitchen etc with covid positive person who coughed and sneezed over me because he was ill and I realised I was going to get it or not whatever without a mask and I didn't.

But in hospitals where masks are mandated and most professionals should know how to put one on and dispose of them where infections are rife.

Hmmm makes me think that it isn't a bit of cloth (discounting the real masks that filter out virus particles) that makes any difference.

Never been to SE Asia have you @IcedPurple ?

Social responsibility varies greatly across the planet.

Some have a mature attitude and some are more toddler like.

I will use whatever language I like thanks. You clearly know more about the far right than me because I didn’t associate the term “face nappy” with the far right. Calm down dear.
