All this has to stop. We can’t live like this!

We need to learn to live with covid like we do with all other viruses, illnesses and diseases. The elderly and high risk are vaccinated… that was the goal, remember?! Like Hancock said, we will cry freedom when the over 70s are vaccinated!

There is no reason for mass testing when the young and healthy get covid mildly. My child is in tears yet again because she isn’t allowed to go to school for 10 days. A few students in her year group tested positive and all students are forced to be locked in their homes… again.

Are the sick?! No. Half have no symptoms. The others have a slight fever and feel a little tired.

This isn’t fair. This isn’t healthy. This isn’t sane. This is harmful and destructive to children. An entire generation has been betrayed. For what exactly? Over a virus which does not affect them. Over fear. Over people being immensely risk-averse. Over loss of control and people can’t take it.

It is time we live our lives and get back to normal before it’s too late. If our children hold us accountable and never forgive us, I will completely understand. We have not stood-up for them. Instead, we cowered in fear not giving a hoot about the collateral damage all these restrictions have caused. Shame on us.

I agree. The mass testing is ridiculous. Scottish schools break up at the end of June but honestly, I think we might remain abroad because this is ROYALLY fucking up my son's mental health (he has autism, ADHD and OCD and has recently become more and more violent).

Absolutely agree OP.

Today, I broke the rules for the first time. I had lunch with my parents, sister and her family and my niece and her partner. And it was bloody lovely. Most of us have had at least one vaccine dose or are too young!

Covid isnt going anywhere so we need to learn to live with it now.

We're lucky we can afford private healthcare for him but he's having to see his psychiatrist every month. This is fucking ridiculous.

Youre focussing on the wrong thing.
Whilst there is no herd immunity isolation is sensible (for the unvaxxed especially)
The issues are
Unmasked kids everywhere
Everyone socialising to the limit and above
The gov allowing everyone out to other countries where they then came back to insufficient quarantine.
The gov opening up past r=1 so it's growing

Az allows about 40% to still get symptom so cases are still going to be an issue

I know. But who really are the selfish ones? Those who don’t put children first are the selfish ones. This is the first time in history when we as adults said to children, “You need to take care of us. You need to sacrifice your mental health, your education, your career, your childhood, your social development, etc etc… to protect us adults!”

The situation with whole bubbles of school children still being expected to isolated every time there is a positive case is preposterous

I will continue to follow rules where I can see the logic but not where I can't

Unmasked kids? As masks do anything at all to stop the spread of an aerosolized virus.

We have herd immunity. Those who have had covid + those adults who have been vaccinated. The only thing that matters is that the elderly and high risk are vaccinated. The goal was to stop severe symptoms not eradicate covid because it’s impossible!

We can now live our lives fully and yes, socialize!

but an out of control pandemic will affect children anyway?

What do you think would happen if all restrictions were removed right now the in the UK? Mortality is very low is children (although long COVID is not), but that doesn't mean they won't be adversely impacted when coronavirus continues to circulate meaning a large proportion of the adult population are unwell or hospitalised at any one time, and deaths continue to increase.

do you have any evidence to back up the claim the UK (or anywhere else) has reached herd immunity?

Because that's the first I've heard of it

But we seemed to have prioritised lifting restrictions on adults, while putting children through this ridiculous charade.

I thought the whole point of all the school restrictions was to avoid spreading to the vulnerable. The truly vulnerable, ie those who made up 90%+ of deaths are vaccinated now if it is possible to vaccinate them.
