We need to learn to live with covid like we do with all other viruses, illnesses and diseases. The elderly and high risk are vaccinated… that was the goal, remember?! Like Hancock said, we will cry freedom when the over 70s are vaccinated!

There is no reason for mass testing when the young and healthy get covid mildly. My child is in tears yet again because she isn’t allowed to go to school for 10 days. A few students in her year group tested positive and all students are forced to be locked in their homes… again.

Are the sick?! No. Half have no symptoms. The others have a slight fever and feel a little tired.

This isn’t fair. This isn’t healthy. This isn’t sane. This is harmful and destructive to children. An entire generation has been betrayed. For what exactly? Over a virus which does not affect them. Over fear. Over people being immensely risk-averse. Over loss of control and people can’t take it.

It is time we live our lives and get back to normal before it’s too late. If our children hold us accountable and never forgive us, I will completely understand. We have not stood-up for them. Instead, we cowered in fear not giving a hoot about the collateral damage all these restrictions have caused. Shame on us.

Be careful what I wish for?

Haha.

I don't give a fuck.

MarshaBradyo · 20/06/2021 16:09

Children should always benefit first and atm they’re not.

That’s the main issue for many

Castlepeak · 20/06/2021 16:10

Rant away, but get your facts right

We do not have herd immunity. Not anywhere close.

Children are being protected from being the vector that kills their own loved ones.

Even though the high risk are vaccinated, studies are showing that many of them may still be extremely vulnerable to Covid and they must continue to take precautions.

ollyollyoxenfree · 20/06/2021 16:10

@TheKeatingFive

What do you think would happen if all restrictions were removed right now the in the UK?

But we seemed to have prioritised lifting restrictions on adults, while putting children through this ridiculous charade.

I thought the whole point of all the school restrictions was to avoid spreading to the vulnerable. The truly vulnerable, ie those who made up 90%+ of deaths are vaccinated now if it is possible to vaccinate them.

Last year I agree this was true, but finally the gov has taking a different approach with schools being the first to open and the last to close during surges alongside stricter restrictions on everything else

The current roadmap was paused, to try and limit increases in transmission to allow schools to remain open until the end of term

The point of school restrictions is to limit transmission in general

TheKeatingFive · 20/06/2021 16:11

Unfortunately the virus is unlikely to be bothered that people have 'had enough'.

If I were in charge on here I’d issue immediate bans to anyone using that embarrassing and hackneyed construction.

The virus isn’t sentient.

We do however, have choices in how we manage it’s impact. Especially now.

ollyollyoxenfree · 20/06/2021 16:11

@ILookAtTheFloor

I totally agree OP. Flowers

The people have spoken, and the people are saying it's over.

it's a pandemic Confused

all the will in the world won't make it over just because you say it is

I think it is disgusting that people find it acceptable to say things like this. To put that burden and that responsibility on children. It's genuinely chilling.

TheKeatingFive · 20/06/2021 16:13

alongside stricter restrictions on everything else

But adulta have few restrictions on them now, less than children. So I don’t think your point stands up.

SweetsMum3 · 20/06/2021 16:14

@ollyollyoxenfree

Have you heard of the countries and states that have been fully opened? Florida and Texas ring a bell?

Completely agree. My DS came home from school last week with PCR tests for the whole family. Whole school was being tested overnight. I chucked them in the bin. Somebody somewhere is making a shit load of money.

I totally agree. God fucking help any poor child being fed that by their parents.

Actually it will. Governance only works by consent.

I agree with you OP. Brace yourself though, the frothers will be along shortly to paste Graphs of Doom and call you a selfish flannel.

Tbf I see the OP frothing.

lobsteroll · 20/06/2021 16:15

I've had it now as well. I've been such a supporter of lockdowns and other precautions but I've had it now.

We need to learn to live with this, while continuing to vaccinate.

Children are missing out on so much and while I was prepared to accept this in the short term I just can't see how it can continue without dire ramifications.

Agreed. It’s sad and disgusting. It’s also disinformation. As per the data, children are NOT super spreaders.

it won't though? transmission will continue whether people are denying it or not

you can't say a pandemic is over because you're sick of it (as we all are)

Dressingup · 20/06/2021 16:17

A guy at work said he had to carry a gas mask around with him as a young child and was made to go to the country side away from his family to help save the country my grandad was sent out on a ship in the navy which was bombed I think we have it lucky yes it’s a pain but it’s not lasting 6 years we haven’t had to ration food either

osbertthesyrianhamster · 20/06/2021 16:18

Unfortunately the virus is unlikely to be bothered that people have 'had enough'.

Be very careful what you wish for here.

Like what? My trashed mental health even worse than it was because my son's tipped over the edge over a virus that 99% of people survive (my father did not, but it will have been 7 months before I can see my mother due to 'restrictions') to improve?

Gimme a fucking break. I wish for my dead child to be back. I wish for my son's autism to be cured. I wish for a EuroMillions win. See how that works? What you wish for matters for utter fuck all.

Respiratory viruses are everywhere and always will be as long as people breathe. Vaccination keeps health services from being overwhelmed and that's the best that can be hoped for.

The air's always been full of flying glass. Life is a sexually transmitted terminal disease. It's never been 'safe'.

@PandasCatsWolves the problem in schools is we keep pulling kids out to isolate for a virus which is mild for the kids.
