Was it wise to have a football match in a pandemic?

@Mathshelpme

Absolutely lovely to see young people having fun in London for the football. It’s about time we started living again.
It is. If only someone would let the schools know.
MarshaBradyo · 19/06/2021 07:37

Or rather change the rules for schools.

Baileys yep and there’s nowhere to vent except measly here, parents are all feeling the same.

Schools are desperate for fun. It's not fun at the moment by a long way.

I'm pleased to see people out enjoying themselves but also very pissed off that male dominated and the elites events have been given green lights whilst school events are cancelled. I feel especially sad for those who were looking forward to proms, or leavers assemblies, or transition days to their new schools. The weddings where dancing and singing aren't allowed. Festivals desperate to know of they can set up or will restrictions be extended beyond July and they will become bankrupt.

And yes, DDs school has 1 case and a whole year group at home for 10 days. And I agree, I'm sick of being does at in shops when I've accidentally not followed the ridiculous one way system.

To see massive crowds of people gathering in London without consequence, is not a good look.

This is as also how I feel. On the one hand, great to see London full of people having fun. On the other... It has really brought home how fucking skewed the whole thing is.
vegas888 · 19/06/2021 08:16

The amount of hugging, hand shaking, singing, dancing, crowds, spitting, no social distancing at the games and yet to visit my elderly aunt I need a negative covid test, wear a mask, apron and gloves, have my temperature taken, sit in a designated room with the door open, a plastic screen between us and no contact allowed so I can’t kiss or hug her.

Tavannach · 19/06/2021 08:37

@Haudyourwheesht

Are England fans also gathering?

No, I'd imagine they're home with an Earl grey and their knitting.

GrinGrinGrin

Thank you for that - lovely image.

As someone said - just how dangerous is the delta variant if that has been permitted.

Oh dear. This doesn't fit the narrative.

Delatron · 19/06/2021 09:03

It’s not about young people out enjoying themselves. I want everyone to be out enjoying themselves. Not just football fans/men/politicians.

But mainly I want children to actually have stuff to look forward to without it being taken away from them constantly.

I’m pleased they are picking up the litter but this had nothing to do with litter. For me anyway.

Abraxan · 19/06/2021 09:33

He did last time. Thats why the Champions League final went to Portugal. They wouldn't agree..but this time it's a bigger event soooo. Maybe not

Which curiously coincided with Portugal being in the green list for 3 weeks and then once everyone was home from the football it was suddenly demoted to Amber.

Not to mention the swift arrival of a pilot scheme that Gove could join meaning he didn't have to quarantine despite being in a plane with covid positive cases.

Sport speaks for our government, the money it generated means our government will make allowances and let it go, it's always been the case and the pandemic is showing just how true it is.

Yet people trying to get married or hold a wake for a lost loved one are restricted massively. Teens can't have end of school proms, children can't have residential or full transition. Families can't meet up with all their parents/siblings in one place together, even their own home.... but hey, it's sport so thousands can gather together and covid will be fine. Hmm

Didn’t see anyone picking up litter in that video. 🤨 I remember when I was in Australia they had rubbish bins and on the side was written “don’t be a tosser, bin it” Can you imagine that being allowed in 2021.

I have been in a real low for a few weeks now - one rule for one, and another for the rest of the masses. Amongst other things DS (who has ASN) has missed critical transitions to his new school, parents not allowed to watch sports day, end of year play being recorded as we have to watch it via Teams, the list goes on.

Was there any testing or anything being done before being allowed into the game? Or was it just a free for all?

Backofbeyond50 · 19/06/2021 10:14

Now I don't understand why Parkrun isn't happening. It must be to do with permissions from Landowners or councils etc as I have attended several walking/running events recently.

Backofbeyond50 · 19/06/2021 10:15

Actually thinking about it the other events generate income.

mrshoho · 19/06/2021 10:18

I've never understood why parkrun was not permitted all the way through. People are outside in open spaces.

Haudyourwheesht · 19/06/2021 10:20

I don't understand why people need park run to run. Gym classes, team sports, I get but surely if you want to run 5/10k you just do it?

TheKeatingFive · 19/06/2021 10:33

Because they like the companionship and others pursuing the same goal.

It’s hardly rocket science to figure that out.

And quite why park run can’t go ahead I’ll never know. Outdoor transmission is very rare.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 19/06/2021 11:03

that must be so frustrating, the whole year group having to stay at home for 10 days.

It is. For children, families and staff. Especially when it happens multiple times, which is highly likely.

It means you feel like you can't plan anything or look forward to anything.

Backofbeyond50 · 19/06/2021 11:18

So people are saying the Police will fo nothing but many in Lobdon are hearing constant Police sirens. So what is it?

derxa · 19/06/2021 11:38

Harry Kane shouldn't start in the next match. Kieran made a big difference to the Scottish team. The Czechs have turned out to be better than Croatia.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 19/06/2021 12:04

i have just had to cancel my holiday to see dd due to covid

how do you work away from the home if you children having to keep isolating?

Fortyfifty · 19/06/2021 12:25

@AbsolutelyPatsy

Fortunately not my dd. There's not been many cases in their school so it's the first major isolation. Perhaps they want to ensure they curb the spread. Perhaps PHE instructed them to. Still, pointless if none else does get it, which is what the anecdata seems to be from other schools where there's 1 positive case. It remains x1 positive case.
