Was it wise to have a football match in a pandemic?

It was amazing....shame kids are not being offered the same freedoms..

Totally. DDs induction day cancelled even though the 16 year olds are extremely unlike to be ill even if they do catch Covid from attending. Enough already

Yep
Tatum1234 · 18/06/2021 21:43

Nice to see them enjoying themselves. Wish I was allowed to enjoy myself watching my 7 year old in his sports day.

Haudyourwheesht · 18/06/2021 21:46

Maybe the teachers in the schools don't want to be put at risk by having lots of parents at the school. Most haven't yet been vaccinated. 🤷🏻‍♀️

TitsInAbsentia · 18/06/2021 21:49

And all that for a dull as ditch nil-nil draw...worrawaste...

ArabellaScott · 18/06/2021 21:49

It's bloody madness. I'm Scottish and I'm horrified. I'm genuinely embarrassed by the pictures. We're dithering about visiting family, and thousands of drunk men are lolling about licking each other's ears in central London. Numpties.

Baileysforchristmas · 18/06/2021 21:52

@HeronLanyon I agree, there’s something very wrong going on here.

underneaththeash · 18/06/2021 21:57

Point is - it’s an illegal gathering and if everyone starts ignoring the laws they don’t like / you’d have anarchy.
The police should have dispersed them.
There is also the rubbish!
A few fixed penalty notices for that would have gone some way to fix the national debt!!

youcanprance · 18/06/2021 22:06

@Oblomov21

Why did 20k fans travel down if only 3k had tickets? Hmm

For the atmosphere of a London game. Just being around it. When I was younger, I use to visit the Boleyn pub (if you know, you know), after a match, even if I didn't attend the match. Just loved the male attention and atmosphere!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 18/06/2021 22:11

the police need to keep the mood light, no aggro required

Delatron · 18/06/2021 22:14

Yes no aggro. Only when women are involved and old ladies. Easy targets. What a joke.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 18/06/2021 22:16

there have been protests and and all sorts, it is all outside, it will be fine.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 18/06/2021 22:18

outside of this i mean there have been protests .. it wont make difference to covid.

Baileysforchristmas · 18/06/2021 22:22

@AbsolutelyPatsy it’s not about the risk from Covid, it the hypocrisy of the whole thing, children testing twice a week, hundreds of healthy children isolating under house arrest for 10 days, weddings not allowed to sing and dance and to finish at 8, it’s a complete farce. I’m completely done with it now, I won’t test or isolate again.

But surely you agree that they should hopefully be less heavy handed than in previous protests. Not that they should behave in the same overly heavy-handed way just because they'd done it before.

@Oblomov21 Why did 20k fans travel down if only 3k had tickets?

Do you really not know why?

Wakeupin2022 · 18/06/2021 22:31

It all looked good natured before. Police had big grins on their faces.

With the draw and the fact that England really should beat Scotland I hope it doesn't turn nasty.

I've already seen reports that it may be in the Daily Record and I really hope its not the case.

A jovial Scotland fan is very different from an unhappy English fan.

Baileysforchristmas · 18/06/2021 22:31

@Haudyourwheesht do you think the police would be less heavy handed if there was another women’s peaceful March?

I like to think so.

I think the draw will actually help maintain harmony in London tonight. The Scots will party as if they won and the English go home relieved and feeling fortunate.
Wakeupin2022 · 18/06/2021 22:41

Baileys we are in a different place now. We are not in the same level of lockdown.

I don't think the 2 are really comparable.

Wakeupin2022 · 18/06/2021 22:43

mrshoho I really hope so.

The concern I do have is that tensions are heightened due to Covid.

This is the perfect opportunity to cause trouble. We saw it in Glasgow in May and I hope we don't see it today.

Not necessarily about football but a way at lashing out at the last 15 months. I do hope I am very wrong.

Delatron · 18/06/2021 22:45

I’ve lost faith in the police (and their attitude towards ‘easy’ targets) I’m afraid.

It’s no surprise they weren’t heavy handed tonight but that is nothing to do with any lessons learnt from the Sarah Everard protest.

Of course I don’t want the police to be heavy handed.

I don’t think Covid spreads outside. It’s the sheer hypocrisy. Thousands of children sat at home isolating and missing all the fun events. Whilst men sing and sweat over each.
