Was it wise to have a football match in a pandemic?

Disgusted that this is going ahead but I can’t watch my child’s sports day. And plenty of kids sent home to isolate. The school - related rules should have changed before adults watching football. This pandemic really has shown how many people, perhaps often men who make rules, don’t give a damn about the kids.

skodadoda · 18/06/2021 20:33

@Againstmachine

And they are talking about "football VIPs" Being exempt from restrictions, whilst us plebs have to follow the rules.
Absolutely outrageous
ButteringMyArse · 18/06/2021 20:34

There is a travel ban effective Monday between Scotland and a Manchester.

Oh, you mean from the Scottish end. Well not yet there isn't.

Absolutely right

Utterly unenforceable who thinks up this crap.

readytosell · 18/06/2021 20:36

Good to see people enjoying themselves.

Come on England!

Gingerkittykat · 18/06/2021 20:36

@Tealightsandd

She means the fans in the streets before, during, and after the football. I don't know about other teams but I remember the footage of the Rangers fans.
This is what I was talking about.

It was very predictable that scenes like that would happen again.

Are England fans also gathering?

GoingGently · 18/06/2021 20:36

Football = 'for men'
Weddings = 'for women'

That's the difference Sad

ButteringMyArse · 18/06/2021 20:36

Mmm I do wonder how they think this is going to be policed. Can't see GMP enforcing it when it comes in!

Haudyourwheesht · 18/06/2021 20:38

No, I'd imagine they're home with an Earl grey and their knitting.

CrunchyCarrot · 18/06/2021 20:39

I'm honestly delighted to see the fans enjoying themselves and to watch the matches. Some normality at last!

Oh gosh yes, I'd forgotten about this we have had to cancel our sports day. Really sad.

Um, yes, Nicola Sturgeon announced it today. You sound a tad aggressive in your response.
weegiemum · 18/06/2021 20:46

It's as bad up here. I'm in Glasgow and ds and his 4 mates have got a couple of cases of Tennants and have taken over my lounge rather than go out, while other teenagers (he's 19) are out in the streets with no bookings.

My dd1 works in a bar (student and working ft over the summer) and earlier in the week a colleague did a shift with COVID symptoms. Dd tested positive on Wednesday night after working the same shift. She's really unwell and we've been dropping off shopping at her flat. But the bar is still open, the only reason anyone (test and trace) knows there's been a case is dd1. But no ones going to shut down the biggest bar in the East End on the night of a Scotland/England match!

Is suggest though that it's not just Scotland fans in London tonight. There must be a fair few England fans loose in London tonight too!

SpudleyLass · 18/06/2021 20:47

Having fun =/= trashing a city you visit and being a general nuisance to the locals.

Despicable behaviour. Why should it be shrugged off just because its football?

ButteringMyArse · 18/06/2021 20:47

Um, yes, Nicola Sturgeon announced it today. You sound a tad aggressive in your response.

You sound wrong in yours. There is no travel ban, present tense. The one you are talking about is yet to come into force.

How NS thinks this is going to work as of Monday I don't know. GMP don't have the resources to police the covid restrictions that are actually in force in GM, much less to work out where people have come from and whether they broke any of the laws there. If people from Scotland are permitted to come to even a single place in England, they can get to the whole country, because there aren't any restrictions on movement here. It's a ridiculous idea.

If you read my first post properly, I said that the “ban” is effective Monday but that the announcement was today 🙄
RaraRachael · 18/06/2021 20:49

I'd like to be enjoying myself doing what I consider to be normal things but I obey the rules because that's we're always being told to do so that this shit is over quicker. Sadly others don't.

KevinTheGoat · 18/06/2021 20:51

All I can say this, I'm glad I'm at home and not in London. Two sets of rival fans + alcohol + crowds = absolute chaos.

UEFA don't give two shits about health. They made Denmark play after the rest of the squad had seen one of their players nearly die on the pitch, on pain of forfeiting the game 3-0 to Finland.

ButteringMyArse · 18/06/2021 20:52

Just realised you aren't the person I replied to who said Manchester has a travel ban. So apologies for that part, but the post of mine you replied to remains correct, because there isn't a travel ban and you posted about one that is not yet in force.

roobicoobi · 18/06/2021 20:52

There is a travel ban effective Monday between Scotland and a Manchester.

But we can all still go to Dundee which is just as bad Confused

AbsolutelyPatsy · 18/06/2021 20:53

that was shocking that Denmark picked up where they left off

Make it make sense... but then in practice it's not like you won't be able to go to Manchester either.

I have never said there is a travel ban in force right now. I said it it effective Monday.
