Not sure how Boris can stand up tonight and ask us to wait 'just another few weeks' after his antics this weekend.

Nor after seeing the scenes at countless pubs where people were celebrating the footy results

I'm 100% done now

www.msn.com/en-gb/health/medical/10000-fewer-patients-began-breast-cancer-treatment-over-past-year-study-shows/ar-AAL2E37

Over 10,000 fewer people started treatment forbreast cancerin England since the beginning of thecoronaviruspandemic compared to the previous year, a new study shows.

Very worrying. And that's only breast cancer. What about all the other cancers?

Cornettoninja · 15/06/2021 20:28

@BonnieDundee

i praised you for being a good person for getting the vaccine when you clearly have a tendency to think it would suit you personally not to have it.

Unbelievable. Feel like I'm living in the former East Germany with the stasi deciding who is good and who is bad depending on whether they have done what the government wants. Utter madness

It’s nothing like the fucking Stasi for Christ’s sake, but congratulations on minimising a brutal period of peoples lives so you can cram it into your agenda.

I know two people who have died of cancer since COVID began. I know no one who has died of COVID.

One was an older relative who was so scared of catching COVID that she barely left the house. I suspect she was too scared of COVID to go to her GP and ask about her cancer symptoms. By the time she was diagnosed it was inoperable, and she was dead a few weeks later.

One was a young man in his 20s who went to the press after his treatment was suspended in first lockdown. He had a normally highly treatable form of cancer (over 90% survival). I don't know the details of exactly how his treatment delays affected his outcome, but he's dead now. He should have had decades of life left, and he would have used those decades well. I cannot express how angry I am at his death.

The average age of death with COVID is on a par with the average life expectancy. People like the young man mentioned above were sacrificed in order to try and save people who had, in the main, already lived a long life.

It absolutely is when a total stranger on the Internet gets to decide you are you are a good person for having your vaccine. Where the police (thanks Cressida Dick) said that people should police others and social disapproval should be used. And if you remember last year this site was full of posters berating others for buying chocolate or wine. Neighbours were watching to see if people had been out for.more than their "allowed hour", people were fined for going for a walk with a coffee.

I'd say it was exactly like the Stasi

Flyonawalk · 15/06/2021 21:01

The level of judgement has been ugly throughout the pandemic.

I don’t find comparisons with historic oppressive regimes far-fetched in the least. They all started somewhere. Many tyrannical regimes have begun with the consent of people, and the mantra ‘we will make you safe’.

TatianaBis · 15/06/2021 21:51

Fascism arrives as your friend.
It will restore your honour,
make you feel proud,
protect your house,
give you a job,
clean up the neighbourhood,
remind you of how great you once were,
clear out the venal and the corrupt,
remove anything you feel is unlike you...

Olderkids · 15/06/2021 21:54

We are in this position because some sections of society have never complied. They have continued to mix with other households and many are now refusing the vaccine. You cannot blame ‘the government’ for this. How can they tackle such stupidity and selfishness? They have done an amazing job in impossible circumstances and whilst I understand your frustration, you would be moaning if they took away all restrictions and then you or a family member were infected. It is four more weeks, not a lifetime.

Chailatteplease · 15/06/2021 21:58

@MRex

A bunch of double vaccinated people being tested every day, of course the G7 were all safe at an outdoor event. If they weren't able to feel safe at that point then we're all really screwed.

Waiting a few weeks to allow those in their 20s who have not been offered a jab yet to get a jab and build some level of immunity seems fair to me. They have gone through the same restrictions and deserve the same protections as older people. Letting cases reduce will also protect children, who can't be jabbed and also don't want covid. Masks are actually about protecting your fellow citizens, and aren't mandatory outside. Enjoy the sunny weather and be patient for a few weeks.

But it’s not allowed at weddings. Not even if guests are double vaccinated and tested and you’re in agreement with that Hmm

Since when did we need to protect the young? From day 1 we were told to protect the vulnerable and elderly, now it’s everyone. We’ve been lied to. I say this as someone who’s followed the rules and had both vaccines.

Pissed off is an understatement.

Yeah, the Government is totally blameless. Totally. Hmm

Bollocks. Compliance has always been reported as high. Our idiotic government haven’t acted quick enough with closing the borders.
Pootle40 · 15/06/2021 22:03

Interesting article in the Guardian comparing Uk and Israel. Does our largely AZ vaccine 12 weeks apart approach have something to answer for here? Israel have removed remaining restrictions

TatianaBis · 15/06/2021 22:04

Not convinced that the non compliant mixers and vaccine hesitant are the same people. Many non complaints rushed out to get vaxxed to get back to freedom.

wherewildflowersgrow · 15/06/2021 22:31

@Chailatteplease Absolutely right.

MercyBooth · 15/06/2021 22:45

MN Covid board "if you are doubly vaccinated you still have to wear a mask"

Also MN Covid board. "what has G7 got to do with it. They dont have to wear masks/socially distance, they have been doubly vaccinated.

MercyBooth · 15/06/2021 22:49

@Olderkids

Quite frankly what helps to cause non compliance in further lockdowns is comments like yours minimizing the sacrifices we have already made. Why the fuck would/should people comply with yet another one when their efforts and sacrifices are treated like nothing and minimized and history is rewritten and people are gaslighted e,g, the "we are in this mess because no one complied over Christmas" bollocks. Rubbishing and minimizing the sacrifices ppl made in the past is what ensures non compliance in the future.
Look at Hancock and his "dont blow it now" bollocks Boris said the same. News reports saying that the reason so many ppl are in hospital is because they are breaking the rules. Its already been proved that whatever the public do and whatever the public sacrifice it will never be enough. Blame blame and more blame despite the fact they got 95% compliance. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!

That's basically me.

I mixed because that's the nature of my business, and I can't not - though my business got screwed over. Last year the one wedding booking that stayed in my professional calendar had more guests than was technically allowed. Did I work it? You bet I did. The bride was an NHS nurse by the way.

I mixed socially because the government banned me from running my business and earning a living as I see fit - but declined to financially support me. I decided that when the support applied to me, the rules would too. Basically it's my 🖕 to the government, along with the decision not to self isolate because I couldn't afford to. Spoiler alert: the support never came, and I haven't followed da roolz since about late April 2020 (except where unavoidable - you can't drink in a pub that's shut).

I also got vaccinated as soon as I could and am now double jabbed.

I'm poor, I'm pissed off, and if Rishi Sunak was on fire I wouldn't bother pissing on the flames. That doesn't make me an anti vaxxer, or a conspiracy theorist. It makes me someone who needs to pay the rent and put food on the table, and doesn't take kindly to having my livelihood ripped out from under me.

@poppycat10 @Horizons8
World Health Organisation info last updated 30 April 2021 “ People may also become infected by touching surfaces that have been contaminated by the virus when touching their eyes, nose or mouth without cleaning their hands”
So surfaces such as post and shopping then.

Wow, it's quite a spectacle, watching the MN Coronavirus board turn, in the space of about a year, from a place where the majority were screaming 'Granny Killer!' at strangers who wanted to be able to sit down on a park bench whilst out for a walk, to a place where some posters are basically saying 'fuck the young, they won't get ill' and 'why should I comply?' Hmm

Ah well.

BonnieDundee · 15/06/2021 23:44

The government have done an amazing job? come one, you don't really believe that do you? Grin

It is four more weeks, not a lifetime

With all due respect,.we've had.the just a few weeks.carrot dangled in front of us for over year now. Meanwhile people like pp have been left to rot, care home.residents.ans.other.older peoe have been isolated, some of us.have lost relatives, who went downhill very much quicker since March 2020. Its not just.4.more.weeks for them. It was the rest of their lives Sad

ImprobablePuffin · 16/06/2021 00:11

@Funfortheroad

I get why people are fed up with it all, but I don't get the G7 connection. They didn't do anything that we're not allowed to do?
Social distancing was non existent for one.
Zzelda · 16/06/2021 00:17

They have done an amazing job in impossible circumstances

How can anyone claim this with a straight face? It's not as if our government is working in isolation; unfortunately for them, we have the comparator of every other economically advanced country and we can see for ourselves how poorly our government has performed in comparison. Yes, they got vaccination right, but the credit for rolling it out successfully is really down to the fact that the NHS has organised it rather than Johnson's cronies. But our overall death rate is shameful and there is nothing "amazing" about that.

Dongdingdong · 16/06/2021 00:23

Yes, it will always be ‘just a bit longer’ because the goal keeps changing. - flatten the curve, reduce strain on NHS, vaccinate vulnerable, vaccinate all adults, vaccinate teens... boosters for adults... vaccinate young children... and so on.

And don’t forget the latest one - “nobody’s safe until we vaccinate the entire world” Hmm

Dongdingdong · 16/06/2021 00:23

Pressed send too soon... if that’s the goal then life won’t get back to normal for years!

DeathByWalkies · 16/06/2021 00:31

Ah well.

If it's any help, my response to anyone yelling "granny killer" at those sitting on a park bench was "get a fucking grip". That hasn't changed.

I did sit on a few park benches as minor acts of rebellion. I rather hoped the police would challenge me actually, so we could have a debate on whether my (long standing, well documented) health problems gave me a reasonable excuse to sit down and have a rest mid dog walk or if they were actually saying that disabled people weren't allowed reasonable adjustments any more.

Alas, I was never challenged. I thought I was being pulled over once when I was driving - turned out there was actually a crash up ahead Blush

I'm young, but I think I was included in group 6 (CV) for vaccines as I was done ahead of similar aged friends, so saying "fuck the young" would be a bit silly.
