Not sure how Boris can stand up tonight and ask us to wait 'just another few weeks' after his antics this weekend.

Nor after seeing the scenes at countless pubs where people were celebrating the footy results

I'm 100% done now

Even though I work for one trust (and have mentioned above about increase in use of services, especially short term crisis management), I deal with data on a national level.

Alibaa · 15/06/2021 17:52

You want parity with the G7 leaders? Seriously? What exactly are you doing to solve the global pandemic?

It wasn’t a jolly. It was a meeting to try to agree that global solidarity ensures we vaccinate the world. So we all get to live more normal and safer lives.

I’m sorry about your wedding. I think you’ll be getting married under the same rules as the PM was. So there’s your parity.

Alibaa · 15/06/2021 17:55

Oops. You’ll be getting married under different rules because the cap of thirty has been lifted. So more than parity with the PM.

Just to add I don’t have much time for the PM, but I think suggesting that he has been having a giant party in Cornwall and is thumbing his nose at us all, is frankly laughable.

numberoneson · 15/06/2021 18:06

My beloved husband died of Covid, and the virus has been constantly evolving and mutating; I'm not 100% sure the vaccines are going to be effective for long; I'd rather stick to the rules and not die of it too & leave my son without my support. So if anyone not wearing a mask indoors or within 2 metres from me doesn't want a smack in the face, they'd best be fast on their feet around me. FFS it's a few more weeks versus ruining/ending lives. How selfish can you get? Blame the pond-scum prime minister for not dealing with the pandemic properly from the very first day, but keep yourselves and the rest of us safe.

Yeah, right, you'd really risk criminal prosecution for assault for someone not wearing a mask indoors or within 2 metres of you Hmm. Sure. Some people are exempt from masking wearing. Some people have impairments that mean they can't distance well (guidedogs, for example, are not trained in such a fashion).

Losing a loved one (I'm a bereaved parent myself) does not give you the right to assault people in any way.

Supergirl1958 · 15/06/2021 18:10

@PracticingPerson

Think the way it looked was poor but not sure what being on a beach has to do with opening night clubs?

I can;t stand Johnson but this is just covid deniers grasping at straws. You'd have a point if he said you can't go to the beach too.

This!!! Outdoor events are spot on and totally allowed, weddings are indoors (normally) especially in the UK. No venue worth their salt would allow it! I understand the OP is frustrated with the situation and her wedding but trying to blame the PM for not being covid compliant is getting a bit silly!

I would! Can you imagine how good the free food and drink were.

Zilla1 · 15/06/2021 18:10

@OliviaWainright, agree and I wonder how many colleagues will still be working effectively or at all in the medium term. It looks like some are burned out now and with little scope for decompressing - the demands look like they will stay the same over the Summer and possibly increase with the Winter 'flu (and COVID) season. In England, there are still some angry HCPs after that tin-earned Minister who in reference to the discussion about pay responded with, in effect, 'lucky to have a job'. I don't think the government care but I know colleagues who have revived plans to retire early and some who have revived plans to emigrate who will be sending a copy of their resignation to DHSC and the House of Lords.

Pliudev · 15/06/2021 18:14

To all those people who are saying that following G7 it's fine to do whatever you like: err...no. Cornwall has seen an 850% rise in Covid infections. Yes, that's 850%. Pubs and several hotels and restaurants in St.Ives are closed following outbreaks in staff. Let's get people vaccinated before any more madness please.

This. The whole country is going through a shit time. I’m so very sorry you lost your husband but you DO NOT have a monopoly on grief.
Bangolads · 15/06/2021 18:24

I think we can all wait another 4 weeks - this is so obviously a post by an anti vaxxer. Nice try turnips.

Absolutely this.

So you’re going to go round smacking anyone who comes slightly near you? I bet.

UnChatNoir · 15/06/2021 18:31

And I’m also very sorry to hear about your husband - that’s awful. But threatening to assault people? Not really on.

Zzelda · 15/06/2021 18:33

Oh look, not at all unbiased

Surely the fact that the author is funded for suicide prevention work would mean that it is against his interests to find that there has been no increase in suicides. More suicides would mean there would be more need for his work and more funding.

KeepingTrack · 15/06/2021 18:34

The very big issue I have with no lifting the ‘lockdown’ is

  • we are still running GP appointments by phone and people are let down.
  • the NHS is still running at a lower capacity even though it has a huge backlog
  • MH impact. My teen dcs are struggling to meet up with friends (no more than 6 so no parties etc…). Their activities have no resumed in the way other activities have, all because of covid (and the fact some people are much more stressed out and reluctant to see anyone coming close to any other person).

I’m sure I could make that list longer tbh.

Chris08 · 15/06/2021 18:39

Completely done now, no social distancing no mask. We need to fight back, grow a pair - enough!

Bertiebiscuit · 15/06/2021 18:44

Stop being pathetic - we can go out, drink and eat out, meet up with friends now - what else are whinging about? You won't die without huge events or foreign holidays - grow up, get vaxxed, test yourself twice a week and keep the rules otherwise we will all be in proper lock down very soon dying from the Delta variant

Phatpheasant · 15/06/2021 18:45

KeepingTrack I think it depends on your area, we're running GP appointments as normal, though we have an increased request for telephone appointments and are happy to oblige, patients are offered face to face as standard though. All surgeries in our area are the same. Our hospital is at increased capacity as the extra staff taken on for covid are still there, to support with the back log of work whilst covid numbers are low. There is however a large proportion of people refusing to come for their appointments due to the covid risk. Neither the increase in phone consultations, nor the refusal to attend f2f appointments or have their operations will be solved by further lockdown easing if the numbers are still rising.

My kids are younger than yours, but outdoor parties and almost all activities (hobbies, sports clubs, activity clubs like scouts) have resumed here, though I don't know about teenage stuff, younger kid stuff and adults have.

Tana433 · 15/06/2021 18:49

@bumbleymummy Well said, i have no intention of having mine either and im neither stupid or selfish. This time next year i think i will be one of the relieved ones.

THEDEACON · 15/06/2021 18:50

If you're done you're also a fool this virus isn't done with us yet

Mermaid67 · 15/06/2021 19:01

Just saying, there are 2 doubly vaccinated people in intensive care here

Chris08 · 15/06/2021 19:05

Keep hiding, keep doing as you are told & this will never end. We need to get back to normal life now.

Will you feel relieved if you end up with long covid? Do come back in a year's time and report.

Neron · 15/06/2021 19:17

Maybe because for some things, it isn't just another 4 weeks, it's been a long 17 months. Imagine not having an income for that long, imagine that some of those didn't qualify for any government support apart from the bounce back loan - which is due to start being repaid in July. Not sure how those business are supposed to start paying it back when they don't have the income.

It isn't just hospitality. There's contact sports for example, martial arts haven't been allowed to open at times, and even when they can - students are not allowed to train with one another.

It isn't just 4 weeks. It isn't about masks. It's about businesses, made up of real people, just trying to survive.

Who’s hiding? I’m certainly not but I understand the need for restrictions.
