Announcement tomorrow?

Is there any definite plan for a formal announcement tomorrow of the plans for the next step? I haven't seen anything, just curious what time it will be (as that often indicates whether it will be major news or not!)

@NannyAndJohn you keep posting this bloody image which shows we are far below any of their predictions which were made before the Indians variant was even a thing... can you explain what the fuck you are possibly trying to show with it?

@MercyBooth

#ImDone already trending on Twitter.

"I'm done" has to be the most irritating phrase I've ever heard.

What does it really mean? "I'm fed up with this"? yes, me too, and all of us. We're all of us fed up with restrictions, and masks, and all the rest of it.

"I'm done! so I'm not going along with any of it any more! I'm going to do just what I want to do!" - yes, but we can't can we, if things are being closed again, schools and pubs and gigs and shops and all the things we WANT open as it used to be.

Meaningless, wishful-thinking phrase.

@ApplesinmyPocket while I agree ots a bit of an empty threat. What we will see is an increase of household mixing with people taking no precautions. which will probably yield worse results then a full reopening of society will do.

@ApplesinmyPocket people can continue to socialise in private residences though which is a big driver of transmission. So going backwards would do nothing if a lot of people think that way.

According to the BBC a further four week delay Sad

So an extra 4 weeks working from home. Extension to restrictions on events. Further limitations on holidays.

Looking on the bright side, if that means that everyone over 18 can be vaccinated, and the school summer holidays will be unrestricted, then I suppose it's a good thing.

I feel so sorry for those having to postpone weddings again.

Donatella · 14/06/2021 06:16

I do wonder if there may be some relaxation of the rules around weddings. Often the leak to the papers is just the bad news, with a bit of good news held back for the actual announcement. I'll keep my fingers crossed for those who it will affect (sadly no weddings planned here or for my friends/family).

I’d rather keep the freedoms we have now than risk having to go back into another lockdown. Personally I can do everything I did pre-Covid and some of the things been put in place like in restaurants where tables are spread out more, table service etc is so much better. The thought of going back to how restaurants/pubs were is a no thank you from me! Especially where there were help yourself buffets the thought of that now turns my stomach, never gave it a second thought before. Work from home should continue indefinitely and space provided for those who want to go back. The work life balance seems so much better.

This is just bullshit. Our 2 nearest hospitals have only a couple of cases.
Again, today I have to do a full day (non-NHS) in a mask in this heat. I am absolutely SICK of it.

This is the fault of the Govt. not closing our borders and letting people bring in the Delta variant and the fault of those who have not followed the rules and not been vaccinated when they have been offered it and have no good reason to refuse.

I have been compliant till now, but I am absolutely pissed off big time. My DC are about to go off on summer holidays and already places are fully booked out, you can't go abroad and if you want to take them anywhere it's all pre-booking with limited numbers, and half of it closed off.

It will be 4 weeks, then another 4 weeks, then it will be Oct and get ready for a crap winter.

Then it will be "one last haul" heard that before? to "save Christmas". Which, of course, will be cancelled.

How long does this need to go on before people realise that Johnson is a coward who actually wants people to disobey lockdown so that any resulting cases aren't his "fault".

There wont be financial support this time so business will go to the wall en masse.

Of course the appalling affect of mass rebellion will be a total loss of any veneer of government authority which will have huge long term implications.

There won't be any restaurants/pubs. They cannot continue to operate at reduced capacity indefinitely

For you maybe but have you given a thought to the working classes that empty your bins, deliver your groceries and produce your food? I'm sweltering in an.office with a mask.on and I'm struggling big time. Factory workers, supermarket employees, care home staff, delivery drivers, the emergency services are all having to do their jobs in masks in the heat. There really has been an I'm all right attitude from the middle classes

They can't let the virus run rampant again when not everyone has been double vaccinated yet. Come on, it's not hard to understand.

We will be waiting just a little bit longer till autumn and then it will be flu season and we will be back into full restrictions.

Well it doesn't seem to be a problem in Carbis Bay. Rules are for the working class

Actually I'm thinking 7:00 pm most likely if match starts at 5 and then next match at 8 or a lot won't watch it.
Well BJ is often late (sometimes by half an hour) but hed be able to do the announcements in about 5-10 min if he cut out all the waffle and refences to the war.
OTOH I cant bear all the pre-football match waffle either!Grin

Races have started again (I have my 3rd since Covid next week) so why not parkrun?

I've done a couple of races with staggered starts, which are chip timed, but that wouldnt work with parkrun...?

@SausageFrog

They can't let the virus run rampant again when not everyone has been double vaccinated yet. Come on, it's not hard to understand.

Back in January, we were told by Health Secretary Matt Hancock that once the “most vulnerable” had been vaccinated, our freedoms would be restored. But then we had to vaccinate the over-50s. The over-40s. The over-25s.

Now we’re told that we should delay the June 21 unlocking until everyone has had their second jabs. After that – rest assured – it’ll be ’until the children are vaccinated’. And then ‘we need to wait until everyone has had their booster jabs’.

The much-maligned ‘conspiracy theorists’ who predicted that this thing was never meant to end and that every time restrictions are supposed to end, they’ll find new excuses to keep them (with the latest being ‘variants’), have been proven right. The question everyone needs to be asking is: If restrictions aren’t lifted in high summer when deaths ‘with’ Covid-19 fall to close to zero, as they have done this month, then when will they ever be lifted?
Report
Milkandhoney888 · 14/06/2021 07:24

Even if your double vaccinated you can catch and pass the virus on. So even if everyone in the whole world was vaccinated covid wouldn't dissappear, so therefore the restrictions will never end. We'll be in lockdown again this autumn and winter.

Report
zen1 · 14/06/2021 07:28

I think most people can cope with another four weeks of restrictions. Realistically though, unlocking and locking in perpetuity is not sustainable for a lot of people / businesses and there needs to be an end date to this. Variants will be springing up forever.

Restaurants and pubs have to go back to how they were at some point or they won’t exist.

But what about those people who aren't coping? The businesses who aren't coping? Many of them have held onto the light of the 21st to pull them through. It's not as simple as oh well another 4 week's. Because we all know it WON'T just be 4 week's
