Announcement tomorrow?

Is there any definite plan for a formal announcement tomorrow of the plans for the next step? I haven't seen anything, just curious what time it will be (as that often indicates whether it will be major news or not!)

You don’t know that , as soon as everyone has has had both vaccine there is no need to keep restrictions

That's what they said about getting Groups 1-9 done but look where we are.

They originally said all restrictions would be lifted once all vulnerable people were vaccinated.

The government lies. This shouldn't be news to anyone by now.

@Jourdain11

I know they don't have to pass a vote, but say there was massive, massive dissent in cabinet and the House. Could they still mandate the delay?

Doubt it
Coronavirus Act on place till end March 2022
Next due for Parliamentary review in September

I suppose an emergency debate could be called but no MPs seemed to care much about it so far.

My prediction is a delay for England/Wales until schools have broken up, and similar delay in other home nations so they're not too drastically out of step with each other.

And a regretful statement that although relaxations were intended to be permanent, the government will be driven by the evidence and, though they hope very much that there will be no need to reimpose restrictions in the autumn, they will no longer guarantee irreversibility

Scaevola I think you're spot on. Exactly what I'm expecting too.

I don’t know why it has to be all restrictions lifted or no change. Why not keep some in place, such as table service and masks on transport but allow events with a negative test?

It'll be extended restrictions only until adults have had a 1st dose...then until all adults a second dose...then kids 1st dose...then kids a 2nd dose, then "won't somebody PLEASE think of the babies!" who can't be vaccinated and... stalemate.

It's so hot at malls now, and consequently so uncomfortable in masks, that I don't know how retailers will financially survive another 6 mos. Malls are selling a shopping experience but right now it's horrid and in August it will be unbearable and avoided by many.

Meanwhile the bigger and/or detached housing market will rocket some more. Slainte! Hmm

every paper is stating "our contacts (Boris/Raab/ xxx) have said that it will be delayed"
I would be astonished if they didn't delay

We are absolutely being prepped for at least no change, I'd be surprised if things take a backward step, but no mass opening on the 21st.

I always felt it was a little ambitious, it seemed quite a cliff edge drop off in terms of restrictions.

The common view in the press seems to be that the planned releasing of lockdown on 21st June will be moved back by 4 weeks (likely to be reviewed again then rather than guaranteed)

I believe there might be some concessions for weddings / outdoor gatherings

I had a letter for my oldest dc who is moving up to high school. Transition days and parent assembly Is not going ahead. Which suggests to me that the road map Is delayed

A school wouldn’t know the decision?

Given the recent support from Boris, Matt Hancock, Oliver Dowden, Lord Coe and others, will parkrun have to delay the 4 weeks or whatever?

Some documents talk about grassroots sport as a separate category, so if they have a more nuanced set of actions (rather than setting everything back) I wonder what might sneak in as permitted

That's what I was going to say. Just check out tomorrow's front pages tonight sometime after 10.

I can't see why its all or nothing though. Not a freedom day like they were originally thinking, but a step 4.1 or something?

As long as we don't go backwards, although PPs have been right they do keep moving the goalposts. Until the vulnerable have been vaccinated now its likely to be once all adults have been vaccinated then the children, then its well into flu season and then we will be on the Omega variant and back to square one.

Its all very depressing.

I don't see the point of watching any waffly announcements live any more. I'll just catch up after it's done whenever that is. I am expecting this to carry on another 4 weeks at the very least (England).

I might be wrong in this, but I was under the impression that parkrun was a grassroots so going by the government road map it could have returned ages ago.

However, they did put that caveat in Friday's announcement that it does depend on what Boris has to say, but I was hoping that meant if we don't go backwards it will start on 26th June. Then again you never know. Races have started again (I have my 3rd since Covid next week) so why not parkrun?

I have a viva in September, was just confirmed to be remote / online. I think even if the official decision is to open everything forever, many organisations will take a more cautious approach.

I’m expecting them to leak it for the 10pm news tonight TBH, seems to be fairly standard protocol.
