Announcement tomorrow?

Is there any definite plan for a formal announcement tomorrow of the plans for the next step? I haven't seen anything, just curious what time it will be (as that often indicates whether it will be major news or not!)

OP posts:

Holding onto the light of the 21st is all very well but it was never a given or a definite. Everyone knew that.

And it may just be another 4 weeks. Nobody knows. It’s not in the Government’s interest to keep this all going unnecessarily.

sadperson16 · 14/06/2021 07:48

Why do people insist on referring to " Boris" as if he is their friend?

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2021 07:51

Everyone knows who people mean by ‘Boris’ when they are talking on a Coronavirus thread without referring to him as Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson.

LadyCatStark · 14/06/2021 07:53

Sky news says we’re going to be asked to do “one last heave” later today (don’t think it said a time). We haven’t even got to the end of the last “one last…” yet 🙄.

It's a very hard time of year to continue with restrictions - mask wearing in the heat is pretty unbearable

sadperson16 · 14/06/2021 07:55

It is much much more than not wanting to refer to him by his full name. After all, Mr Johnson is not so very hard to say or write is it?

It is all sheeples waiting for their mate to drip feed them the next piece of crap. But its OK because its Boris, he has funny hair and a little son with funny hair too.

Does it really matter?
IsabellesMissingSock · 14/06/2021 07:58

I refer to him as Boris. I can't stand him. Same applies for lots of other people. I also referred to Jeremy Corbyn as Jezza and I don't know him personally either 🤷🏻‍♀️

mask wearing in the heat is pretty unbearable

So is being intubated, being put in an induced coma, almost dying, spending 2 months in ICU then being registered as disabled.

Which would you prefer?

Help ! I've woken up and it's 1910!

Aren't the vaccines meant to prevent the latter option?
ineedaholidaynow · 14/06/2021 08:02

@sadperson16 I don’t think referring to him as Boris is worse than using the term sheeples. Most people refer to him as Boris, whether they like him or not, but only a certain sort of person uses the word sheeples, and I try and avoid them.

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2021 08:02

‘Sheeples’ . It’s time for that MN Lockdown Bingo Card again. Grin

Same here. Also, referring to PMs by their first name is not new. I remembered my parents talking about "Maggie" when I was very small. They were not talking about her in favourable terms and neither did they think she was a friend of theirs. Seems a few folk need a bit of education as to what a "friend" is. Perhaps they don't have any.

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2021 08:04

I call Adele- Adele. She’s not my mate. What are the rules here? Confused

Arrowheart · 14/06/2021 08:06

@MaxNormal

We're going to be in restrictions till next spring, whatever they say tomorrow.
Blimey thank goodness for you. Cancel the press conference, we heard it here first.

And exactly how many people has this happened to this week? Can we stop this argument now. The vulnerable are vaccinated. The vulnerable to other things are suffering and people's livelihoods are dying
IsabellesMissingSock · 14/06/2021 08:10

@ZoBo123 agree entirely. I feel awful for people in the travel/entertainment/hospitality industries. It's awful the way a lot of people can't think beyond "oh im fine so let's just extend". The same people who bleat on about "community thinking" in the context of getting the jab, no doubt.

bollihigh · 14/06/2021 08:13

So it's to max out the vaccinations and test them, fair enough. But if that's not enough then it continuous stop and start and potential for a worst winter wave. So there is no end in sight, starting to turn anti-lockdown now after a year and a half of this as are most of my family and friends. But then it is Johnson and his second and third rate chums so it was to be expected.

I don't wish to dignify him with his job title or his full name. He doesn't warrant the respect. As for his funny hair, that's a choice he's cultivated, just like his choice of name. Silly Boris in his creased shirt in his slightly-too-big suit. He's a danger.

C'mon, "sheeples"? Really?

Urgh all this ‘I’m done’ stuff is embarrassing isn’t it? #I’mdonewithI’mdone

I don't think the virus cares if they're done, sadly.

Exactly. It seems the virus isn’t done, sadly.
newnortherner111 · 14/06/2021 08:20

Whether it is via an announcement to the House of Commons (which it should be I think) or a press conference, it should start on time for once, given how important the announcement is to many businesses.

As for the Prime Minister, I refer to him as Mr Johnson or Boris Johnson, out of respect for the position/office, even though the man who I regard as a serial killer in all but name has no respect for the office he holds.

Snapemalloy · 14/06/2021 08:22

I and most of my family work in the theatre so have been badly affected by the restrictions but tbh I don't see they have another choice. I mean, they had another choice but yet again they didn't listen to reason early enough and let a more virulent, more transmissible, more vaccine resistant strain become dominant here.

I don't see that my job will ever go back to normal tbh until they get their head round the fact that this will continue to be an issue until the majority of the world is vaccinated, OR until they put stringent border controls in place.

I do freelance admin work now and some supermarket shifts, no other choice really.

I'm pretty sure people know the virus isn't done. But they're past caring.
