Announcement tomorrow?

Is there any definite plan for a formal announcement tomorrow of the plans for the next step? I haven't seen anything, just curious what time it will be (as that often indicates whether it will be major news or not!)

OP posts:

If the announcement's at 5pm, I predict the first "alas" at 5.03pm.

Dementedswan · 13/06/2021 22:04

@MarshaBradyo the letter stated they have been told by DoE that due to rising cases of variants they are not allowed to go ahead as normal.

Sparklingbrook · 13/06/2021 22:04

@Justmuddlingalong

If the announcement's at 5pm, I predict the first "alas" at 5.03pm.
And the first of a bajillion MN threads very soon after.
HalzTangz · 13/06/2021 22:12

If what the press is printing is true, tomorrow's announcement will say 21st isn't happening and will be reviewed in 2 to 4 weeks

Sarahandco · 13/06/2021 22:13

will it be a months delay or 6?

ineedaholidaynow · 13/06/2021 22:13

Been mentioned on BBC news, unofficially, that will be delayed 4 weeks but with 2 week review

PracticingPerson · 13/06/2021 22:14

@MaxNormal

We're going to be in restrictions till next spring, whatever they say tomorrow.
Yeah, this is my worry. It looks shite again atm.
OrangeBananaFish · 13/06/2021 22:21

A couple of papers are talking about weddings being relaxed a bit, but still working out the rules.

AfternoonToffee · 13/06/2021 22:22

4 week delay on front page of Telegraph, Guardian and Mail.

The S*n has the football result.

Pootle40 · 13/06/2021 22:25

@Wakemeuuuup

If it's 8pm we're screwed Sad
I don't follow you. We're not going to be put into lockdown tomorrow even if it had been 8pm which it isn't.
TailFeatherz · 13/06/2021 22:28

The Times seem to think it will be a four week extension.

Gilly12345 · 13/06/2021 22:32

5pm announcement I would think and an extension of a month I foresee.

Jaxhog · 13/06/2021 22:42

My guess is that it'll be 'formally' announced at 5pm, but we'll all know before that.

It'll be a 4-week delay and we'll be reminded of the current rules. Wales, NI, and Scotland will be different of course.

PicsInRed · 13/06/2021 22:45

Sky news are reporting that a "govt source" says there will be a 4 week extension.

I don't believe a word any of them - media or government - say anymore.

Miljea · 13/06/2021 23:31

I can't see 'tomorrow's papers' on the BBC News site! Where is it? Please.

ineedaholidaynow · 13/06/2021 23:34

When Boris announced the roadmap he said it was about the data not dates (he then mentioned dates!) Everyone has got hung up on the dates

WouldBeGood · 13/06/2021 23:36

Leak from Laura K. Four more weeks …

Then more, and more and more

MercyBooth · 13/06/2021 23:44

#ImDone already trending on Twitter.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/06/2021 00:05

What do people want to happen if we have an issue with a very transmissible variant?

Dennisreynoldsduster · 14/06/2021 00:15

With all the talk of Delta being more transmissible outdoors even and now the rumblings about the Nepal variant I’m not surprised there’s going to be a delay.

I can’t see how it’s ever going to end though

SurelyNott · 14/06/2021 00:18

I thought we were doing all this to protect the NHS...

Casedemic from the theorists is looking more and more true

SurelyNott · 14/06/2021 00:21

Around 1,350 deaths per day in the U.K., and only 8 today WITH (not of) Covid.

It’s ridiculous.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/06/2021 00:24

Things change with the pandemic though, there are still some unknowns with the Delta variant.

Doesn’t help that in this country (just by reading threads on MN) you have the mask refusers, the people who lie for test and trace, refusing to isolate, refusing to do LFT. Doesn’t really help the cause.

There is another thread asking what it is like in other countries, they have been able to relax some restrictions but are relying on people doing regular tests and abiding by test and trace. I would be so happy if we could do that.

NannyAndJohn · 14/06/2021 01:34

Announcing a rightful delay a week in advance is a lot more than I expected from this shitshow of a government.

But they need to be doing more.

We are now in the scenario pictured on the left.

However this assumes:

  1. We stay in Step 3 indefinitely.

  2. The worst case scenario is an increase in transmissibility of 50%, whereas the most recent PHE/SAGE estimates put it at around 60%.

It's clear to see that low-level restrictions need to be reintroduced if we don't want to face yet another lockdown. But I don't trust Johnson to do so.
