Time to move on

This virus is here to stay and will always be around. So my question is, do we as a country move on once we are all vaccinated and get on with life as it were pre pandemic. Go out with friends, no face masks, travel Internationally and enjoy holidays, no bubbles at work or school. Not isolating untill we have a negative test ect ect. Or are we OK with going back a step everytime a new mutation pops up.

Personally for me, I think as this is around forever now and eventually will be controlled, I want things to go back to normal normal not go back a few steps if a variant appear. We can't evade them all and eventually one will evade the vaccines to an extent, but to lock the country up as we have and are doing, it's intolerable.

'People want to hold dinner parties or see each other more than 2 households. People want to be able to sing at funerals and invite more people. Women don’t want to attend ante natal scans alone. I could go on.'

It is all moving in the right direction though. Also, the weather is great so it isn't exactly a hardship having everyone round outside.

It hasn't been great but it is improving.

Honestly after the year we've had caution is of course necessary.

As an aside do we really need childish 'report that poster!' Comments? People are able read and make their own judgements..

StapMe · 11/06/2021 12:10

I think it's fair to say that we are all "done" with this sodding virus and the restrictions imposed upon our lives. But our perception of risk depends upon our own individual circumstances. Fully vaccinated as we are, I'm still fearful that immunisation is not 100% against the variants that we know about, and that a vaccine resistant strain may be around the corner. I'm also aware that for some people the vaccine doesn't "take" so well. But we are older with health conditions that mean that catching Covid is likely seriously bad news for us. We have pretty much shielded throughout. So, much as we want to, we are not abandoning precautions just yet. But I can see why others who do not perceive the virus to be that much risk to them and theirs want to get back to living their lives. Life is too short, as other posters have pointed out, but I don't want mine to be any shorter, thanks!

sprinkleyumnut · 11/06/2021 12:20

We should of moved on by now. It's ridiculous now. They have nerve they really do. Majority of people have been vaccinated with both vaccines now or are due to be very soon. I'm 28 I'm getting mine June 23rd my first one and second 8th September. Businesses have crumpled as has mental health. Time to get rid of masks and social distancing. Add more countries to green list for the fully vaccinated.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/06/2021 12:24

Yes, 'we' do because that particular poster is well known for making woman-hating comments on nearly every thread and that's nothing childish about reporting such posts.

The weather is not great across the entire UK Hmm, some people don't have gardens, in Western Scotland the midgies are out full force. So you go right ahead and keep meeting outside. Others will do differently.

Flaxmeadow · 11/06/2021 12:24

And the NHS? What about that?

The reason for restrictions and rolling lockdowns is to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed. We have been reminded of this repeatedly for over a year yet it still doesn't seem to be sinking in

On January the 17th a covid patient was admitted into hospital every 30 seconds
On January the 20th the daily death number exceeded 1,800

Not everyone is vaccinated, especially abroad and no one has said there would not be variants or that the virus can be eradicated completely. We are still in a pandemic

MaxNormal · 11/06/2021 12:26

I'm sick of making a god of the NHS, and for us to have to give up our lives to protect it when it should be protecting us.
Fuck the NHS.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/06/2021 12:27

What about it? Do people really build their lives around the sacred cow that is the NHS? The hospitalisations and deaths are declining.

'We should of moved on by now. It's ridiculous now. They have nerve they really do.'

We should have moved on by now yes and indeed we have, with that boring but necessary word, caution. No one has a 'nerve'. If they went too fast and there were more localised problems there'd be outrage.

Save your fury for vaccine refusers.

'Yes, 'we' do because that particular poster is well known for making woman-hating comments on nearly every thread and that's nothing childish about reporting such posts.'

Correct, there is nothing childish about reporting posters who are offensive, my point was you don't announce it and encourage others to do so like you're a thread prefect. HTH

Flaxmeadow · 11/06/2021 12:30

Fuck the NHS

And there you have it folks. Utterly selfish

Here's a tip: you're the one acting like a thread prefect by stating 'you don't announce to others'. You post as you like, and others will do the same. HTH.

You are free to exercise whatever caution you'd like. As are others.

And people are allowed to direct their fury (such a dramatic term) at whomever they like.

It's so disappointing isn't it to read vile stuff like this and they got an excitable round of applause too 🙄.

Unless you are in the privileged position of having private healthcare the NHS is all we have and I for one am thankful a thousand times over for the care I and my family have received and continue to receive from our NHS during my lifetime.
bunny85 · 11/06/2021 12:37

Agree 💯!!! I had enough of this shit show long ago. I just live my life normally as usual. About time we just accept it and move on.

SueSaid · 11/06/2021 12:37

'I'm sick of making a god of the NHS'

Making a god of the nhs I mean purleeeeeease. Did you not see the footage from critical care at the peak? Do you really not understand the surge on critical care was massive, not just normal bed pressures but 5 times the amount they usually admit. Do you really not get that community transmission needed to be as reduced as possible to stem this demand?!

'Fuck the nhs' I mean, really. Pull yourself together.

LOL your failure to grasp the concept of what you’ve just said is actually mind blowing. Fuck the NHS? Would you be saying that if you needed cancer treatment or an ambulance?
Flaxmeadow · 11/06/2021 12:42

Yes vile. Because they cant go in a shop without a mask on, so I assume they'd say fuck shop workers too? Or they can't go in a pub and not stand at the fucking bar.

VILE

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 11/06/2021 12:44

It is not vile. It's true. For god sake the G7 is happening right now 😂 would world leaders put themselves at risk from the "deadly virus".

Services have never collapsed. They where never going to. The NHS is basically shut to everything but covid and emergencies.

If you catch it and die that is ashame but the world will keep turning. We aren't getting out of here alive. None of us.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 11/06/2021 12:45

Who said any of that on this thread? I can't see a single post that says "fuck this because I want to stand at the bar in a pub". It's almost as if you are trying to belittle people and dismiss their concerns. Fancy throwing in a jibe about primark too?

I wonder why it hasnt collapsed, though it's been on the verge of it

Let me think Hmm What happened to prevent it? That's right, lockdowns

The NHS has never shut for life saving treatments and why is that again? Because we locked down.

What you and people like 'Max "fuck the NHS" Normal' want is for the elderly and at risk to die alone at home in bed without medical care and assistance why ? For the NHS to collapse for ALL treatments, why? So you can go to the pub or a nightclub or something? Or not wear a mask in a shop?

What the fuck is wrong with you?

megletthesecond · 11/06/2021 12:53

"Fuck the NHS"

Spectacularly short sighted brattish attitude. It does explain why we're in this mess.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/06/2021 12:53

And who wants to stand at a bar? You can't smoke at the bar 😂😂😂

mrshoho · 11/06/2021 12:53

Best you can do Maxnormal? Pathetic attempt to discredit an entire health service without whom we'd be fucked.
