Just a heads up in case anyone is interested, I just registered to receive a free home Covid antibody testing kit due to being a Zoe Covid app user.

Negative here, despite a positive PCR in December - hopefully there's some antibodies from my 2 x vaccines instead!
Posted yesterday am and results came through this evening.

hellsbells99 · 17/06/2021 20:42

Do the lancets not work once you have tried them once. My mum tried to do the test on me. Used all 3 lancets and no blood at all. Think my skin is too tough to puncture!

Littleone638 · 18/06/2021 07:05

@hellsbells99 they are single use, you have to press the tube part down quite hard before you “fire” it. I messed my first one up and called 119 and they said just go on the website and sign up again.

I posted mine at 2.30 yesterday and it’s just been delivered to the lab. Fingers crossed for a quick result!

Thanks Littleone638

That's worrying...but ties in with what the experts are saying about confirmed cases where people have had it twice!
HazelnutFlat · 18/06/2021 09:51

I wonder if they will do a similar population survey for antibodies from vaccines, to see how they are holding up in the real world. (I know there are other research studies specifically for these).

MargaretThursday · 18/06/2021 10:26

Just done mine, found it quite easy to get blood (but I tend to bleed like mad for tiny injuries so maybe no surprise)
Got dh to do the lancets though, and I have one finger bruised and second finger still bleeding badly. I probably didn't totally need the second finger, as it was nearly up to 400 line, but I wanted to make sure.

ifonly4 · 18/06/2021 15:10

HazelnutFlat I thought I read on the application something along the lines that those who've had their vaccines may be asked to do a different test.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 18/06/2021 16:28

Did mine yesterday at 2:30pm, caught the 3pm post and just got my results (text) now. Super speedy.

Negative which was to be expected (not that I've been a hermit, got children at nursery etc., but not had any significant Covid symptoms).

Would be interesting to do a vaccine antibodies test as well.

Trick to using the lancets is to have your hand face up on a flat solid surface (like a table) and press down hard before hitting the fire button...
AzureTwist · 18/06/2021 18:48

My issue was stopping the bleed ... the water/exercise/warm water was amazing. Now I know what to do next time I go for a good test!

Littleone638 · 18/06/2021 18:54

I struggled to get enough blood on my first go, even though I did it straight after a shower, however on my second try I put my hand under the tap on as hot as I could stand and I got the required amount of blood with no effort, I didn’t even need to squeeze, it just poured out. Less than ideal when I’d filled the tube and was still bleeding everywhere though. 🙈

Anyone else ended up with bruises on the ends of their fingers? I've been telling dh that he assaulted me and left bruises. Grin

Yes, it’s bloody sore too.
Parker231 · 18/06/2021 22:18

Got my results back within 24 hours.

Thank you for doing a coronavirus (COVID-19) antibody test.

No antibodies were found in your blood sample.

This means it’s unlikely you’ve had COVID-19 in the last 6 months.

It’s important to keep following coronavirus advice.

This test only looked for antibodies from an infection, rather than antibodies made after the vaccination.

Lindy2 · 19/06/2021 09:25

I sent mine off Thursday afternoon but no results yet.

I hope I did it all ok/ that they arrived ok. I didn't think to keep a note of the bar code number.

It's not a test I particularly want to redo.

littlequestion · 19/06/2021 10:15

Mine came back in about 36 hours - positive! I'm pretty sure I had it in March 2020 so I'm surprised but actually quite delighted. With natural antibodies and two jabs, I'm feeling quite chipper..

Littleone638 · 19/06/2021 14:31

Mine came back negative, not totally surprised but a little disappointed, although it was hugely unlikely I’d had it in the last six months I wondered if I might have some antibodies hanging about from possible infection last year!

Lindy2 · 19/06/2021 18:52

I just got my results.

Positive for antibodies.

I had confirmed Covid in January and was fairly ill so being positive for antibodies was expected.

I'm glad they're still there. Actual antibodies plus 2 vaccine doses seems pretty good.
It's about the only plus side of having had the illness!

Same here. I'm pretty sure I haven't had it unless I had it in March 2020, where it's unlikely antibodies are still around for that long.
AzureTwist · 20/06/2021 21:47

Mine came back negative. I was very ill April 2020 and had to have lots of antibiotics ( obviously no dr would see me, so had to send samples off to the lab to get right ones) so I did wonder if I had covid then, or even if I did whether it would be too long ago.

userchange8945 · 20/06/2021 21:52

Thanks for this, DH and I have done. DH tested positive a few months ago, mine came back negative, hoping DH's will be positive. No idea how I didn't catch it off him.

CovidCorvid · 20/06/2021 23:16

Negative here

MrsFezziwig · 23/06/2021 01:03

Can I just check the comment above please? Does the kit via this link shoe both covid and vaccine antibodies? I thought it wss just the former
Thanks!

@sleepwouldbenice sorry, I see my comment was a bit misleading. I’m actually in a different study which differentiates between antibodies from Covid and those from the vaccine, though the technique is the same.

wendz86 · 23/06/2021 17:06

No antibodies . I was worried about doing the test and first finger got no blood but second wouldn’t stop !
