Just a heads up in case anyone is interested, I just registered to receive a free home Covid antibody testing kit due to being a Zoe Covid app user.

I did mine today. I don't think I've had covid so expecting it to be negative but you never know

HarrietOh · 14/06/2021 17:38

I just tried to do mine and it didn’t go well! I’m not the type of person to ever faint or feel squeamish etc. I did the lancet part at got a bit of a shock and how it fired into my finger, but then set about squeezing the blood into the tub. Must have only got to about 200 then suddenly felt very faint and unwell and ended up sitting on the floor Confused I won’t be attempting it again, disappointed as I wanted to know if I still had natural immunity!

kimlo · 14/06/2021 18:42

I just got my results. No antibodies again, but not suprised.

mumof1879 · 14/06/2021 18:55

I tested positive for Covid in the last six months, and had no antibodies when I did the test as request by the app 😳

Fountain497 · 14/06/2021 20:37

@Lindy2

I got my invitation to test this morning.

I had Covid in January and vaccine doses in March and May.

I'm hoping I have a good lot of antibodies still as I was pretty ill. Does it give any more information other than yes or no for antibodies being found?

It doesn’t give anything other than a positive or negative.

I was positive for antibodies but never had a covid test, let alone a positive one. I did state this in the Zoe app when loading results and when requesting via NHS and have wondered if anybody would contact me to find out more 😂😳🥰

Branster · 14/06/2021 20:54

Got my results this lunchtime (posted Friday around 8PM so missed the 4PM deadline). Very impressed with the fast turnaround. No antibodies. Is that good or bad for me personally? It's probably relative. But the more of us do it, the better the picture for the country as a whole.
I've told all my friends about the link - vast majority Zoe app users!

Doilooklikeatourist · 15/06/2021 09:43

The kit arrived this morning , will be hydrating today and sampling tomorrow

CovidCorvid · 15/06/2021 10:47

What happens if you can't fill the bottle? My kit turned up today and the vial is quite big!

AlmondFlat · 15/06/2021 11:24

You only have to fill to the 400 mark, if you can't get to the 600 mark. Also there is fluid in the bottom of the vial so it isn't as much as it looks. You can use more than one finger if needed. When you sort of rub your finger at the top of the vial and let the blood run down the inside, it catches most of the drop and fills up fairly quickly. I still think one of the little sucking devices that the blood donor clinics use would help though!

Arcadia · 15/06/2021 16:30

I can't believe I managed to do it, proud of myself! Didn't hydrate the day before, just big glass of water half hour before and did the jumping around, hand in warm water etc. It is hard getting into that little vial, especially as I was shaking slightly! Didn't really hurt though. The only thing is my blood didn't mix in with the stuff underneath, it just sort of 'set' in a layer.

Lindy2 · 15/06/2021 17:20

My test kit has arrived. I'm feeling a bit nervous.

It's supposed to be around 28 degrees here tomorrow so too hot to post it off. I'll have to wait a day or two (staring at those purple pricky things) waiting for it to cool down.

Smurf123 · 15/06/2021 17:28

How long is it taking for results? I posted mine off yesterday morning. Just waiting on results now.
I didn't hydrate day before or anything but did do the warm bowl of water for hand and a few quick hand exercises. Found standing up as opposed to sitting down made a big difference. All in all only took a minute max to fill the tube.
Mine didn't mix with the stuff on bottom either though no matter how many times I turned it.

GiantGoose · 15/06/2021 18:24

The blood isn’t meant to mix with the stuff at the bottom of the tube so don’t worry.
Sent mine off today, first chance I’ve had to do it! 😆
Not all that convinced mine will show any antibodies tbh as I’ve never had symptoms but have had both vaccines now so not overly concerned

I sent mine off this afternoon having been sent an e-mail at the weekend by Zoe. I have been on the app since April last year and I had Covid in January and vaccinated in February and April. When I completed the uk.gov form it did say if I wasn’t working I couldn’t do an antibody test but I continued completing the form and was confirmed that I could have a test.

I have done previous different antibody tests but have had no antibodies so will be interested to see if I have developed any antibodies now.

AzureTwist · 15/06/2021 19:02

Have mine but looks like too hot to post tomorrow.

Wakemeuuuup · 15/06/2021 19:13

I posted mine at lunchtime yesterday and got my results about 5pm today. Negative as expected. I hope they do one soon to test for vaccine antibodies

Arcadia · 15/06/2021 19:30

@Lindy2 I nearly threw mine away as I was a bit freaked out, but I decided to go for it and once I'd decided I just tried not the overthink and just did it, if you know what I mean!
It didn't actually hurt so was a surprise to see any blood come out at all but it was only a drop every few seconds. I think there are less nerve endings there or something.

ItsSnowJokes · 15/06/2021 20:36

Did my test on Sunday had the results through this afternoon. Negative for antibodies. I didn't think I had had covid at any point so it just cemented what I already knew.

I am on a vaccine trial and I know I have had the vaccine.

Friolero · 15/06/2021 21:02

I did my test yesterday and have got the results back already - it showed positive for antibodies which I’m not surprised by as I had covid in December, but glad to see I still have antibodies after 6 months.

quiteathome · 15/06/2021 21:53

Did mine today. It was cool enough when I posted it off.

Main problem was I managed to hit part of my finger that meant it bled profusely. (At least for a pinprick sized wound.) And it was hard to direct the blood into the tube, I was proud that I managed to fill the tube to the brim.

amyj606 · 16/06/2021 07:00

I sent mine off towards the end of last week...not had anything back as yet, very odd

LittleRen · 16/06/2021 07:33

They are probably inundated with all of these extra tests from mumsnet Wink

AvocadoPlant · 16/06/2021 07:55

Thanks for sharing, have signed up and will complete the app each day (?) even if I don’t qualify for a test yet.

Doilooklikeatourist · 16/06/2021 10:05

Just done the test , I watched the video and followed the instructions and found it relatively simple
Biggest problem was getting the blood into the tiny vial !

aurea · 16/06/2021 12:37

Do people know where the sample is sent for testing? Is it to a local hospital? Annoyingly I posted mine yesterday but did not check the SAE.

Thanks
