Does anyone else think we may end up with yet another lockdown

I really hope not; the last few were quite hideous. But I can’t help feeling that we are going to end up with another lockdown before the end of term (Scotland: so before 1st July) just hoping that the vaccination program is completed really soon

OP posts:

I’m not sure we’ll have another lockdown but I think they’ll put back the 21st June plans and maybe put some restrictions back in place. But I really hope not as I’m sick of it. I agree with others that if they did another lockdown people just won’t comply and will continue to meet friends and family.

picturesandpickles · 17/05/2021 20:03

A large peak of hospital admissions from people of all ages and vaccine statuses is the expectation from this wave. also if younger people do end up in ICU stay there for longer - which means pressure on beds is greater. Older people die quicker, younger people more likely to survive ICU but stay there for a very long time.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 17/05/2021 20:03

I hope not but I certainly don't think the June 21st return to normality will happen. Just can't imagine nightclubs, festivals and large events that attract lots of unvaccinated young people going ahead.

Whatshouldicallme · 17/05/2021 20:08

@IcedPurple

"It's also silly to posit the theoretical worst case scenario as though it were the most likely one."

Yes, but my response was to the posts moaning that discussing the possibility of another lockdown is scaremongering and OTT. It's not, it's a realistic possibility.

Arrowheart · 17/05/2021 20:34

Nope. They work or they don't. They are shown to work. Stop belittling the facts.

Arrowheart · 17/05/2021 20:35

That was for Princessnuts

Slowdownandsee · 17/05/2021 21:00

My house has had the indian variant (confirmed by phe) we are not in the north west, it was horrendous, I am part vaccinated (Astra zen) and dh fully vac Pfizer,
All four kids were very ill in bed, I was very ill in bed for a week, couldn’t have coped another day or so without outside medical help if I hadn’t turned a corner, worst week ever, recovery not bad but I’m young ish and extremely fit (obviously being fit and vaccinated when I was offered it is my choice but doesn’t stop you getting the new variant) being part or wholly vaccinated and very fit is helping my recovery. It ripped through several families we know of, my previous confidence in the roadmap has gone, i think lots more cases is inevitable after this first week and it will be unvaccinated, part vaccinated and children that will bear the brunt, i wouldn’t wish what we’ve been through on anyone, get both vaccines then go out, i was only three weeks away from my second vacc when this variant caught me and my family, thank god i had some protection but still devastating to have suffered it so close to being more protected by second vaccine. Feels like eases of lockdown will put many thousands in same boat or worse....

Always

‘according to ministers and officials.’

Media should attribute a name or bog off I reckon. Impossible to know if just clickbait

MercyBooth · 17/05/2021 21:13

I think this could all backfire on the media once this is over (if it ever is)
People may start calling for Leveson 2

This is terrifying to read. When will this end 😢

Nope. They work or they don't. They are shown to work. Stop belittling the facts.
@Arrowheart

What? Each jab has different efficacy statistics obtained from trials carried out with earlier strains of the virus.

It's well known that each vaccine has a slightly different level of efficacy, and that new strains may decrease the efficacy of the existing jabs.

It is literally not at all "they work or they don't."

Boosterfeat · 17/05/2021 21:35

@Slowdownandsee
How did your husband fare?
As he was fully vaccinated. Was he as ill as you and your children?
Hope you’re all better now Flowers

Slowdownandsee · 17/05/2021 21:43

Boosterfeat thanks for asking he tested positive but had barely a sniffle if I ever get a choice in future i would have Pfizer ,
Only ast zen was available to me when I was invited and I was grateful to have it and the protection it offered, I know someone in another affected family that had two as zen jabs and was not as ill as me by all accounts, so what I’ve seen in my household and known local other household what they’ve said about efficacy of vaccines is right, they work, two doses works better and Pfizer works best of all

TheKeatingFive · 17/05/2021 21:47

Important to hold on to that.

Serious illness after full vaccination with any vaccine is very unlikely. Expediting second doses is clearly the right thing to do.

Hope you’re feeling better.

bumbleymummy · 17/05/2021 22:09

@LadyEnolaHolmes

Sadly, I think we will. I give another month or two. The Indian variant has started to spread and we know it’s 60% more contagious, and more dangerous. With things opening up around the same time, particularly if we get some sun and better weather in the days ahead, this variant will spread. And vaccines won’t help because not everyone will have gotten both their shots within the next few weeks even with the ramped up programme. Not to mention we don’t know for sure how much the vaccine protects against new variant.
We don’t actually know that.
bumbleymummy · 17/05/2021 22:13

Know that it’s 60% more contagious I mean

SuperGecko · 17/05/2021 22:20

So cheery to hear this from all vaccinated people Confused

What’s in store for us - the unvaccinated

mightyducks · 17/05/2021 22:30

Yes very sadly I think there will be, local hotspots of the Indian variant will more than likely be locked down again, the cases in these hotspots are doubling each week, a few more weeks of doubling and they’ll be no choice, there won’t be enough time for the surge vaccinations they’re doing now to take any affect by then, I predict around the 7th of June,

Sounds horrible - glad you are better. Can I ask If you are young ish, how have you and your husband been part / fully vaccinated?
Alonim · 17/05/2021 22:49

It ripped through several families we know of

Why is this not in the news? Especially if so many kids are being badly affected.

Needanewhat · 17/05/2021 23:15

So cheery to hear this from all vaccinated people

Please take that kind of thing with a pinch of salt. Anyone can write anything on here.

Katie517 · 17/05/2021 23:27

@Needanewhat exactly this, I smell BS on some of these responses but sadly a lot of people take these posts as gospel. FWIW I can’t see us having another lockdown maybe some local restrictions but that’s all. People won’t tolerate another they accepted this one to roll the vaccine out once that’s done there is no excuse as there will always be “variants” so what’s the answer?

Slowdownandsee · 17/05/2021 23:32

On the brink you can ask and the answer is nhs. Are you vaccinated? it was on our local news. I didn’t say so many children I said my four children and the children of the families I know affected, Needanewhat people can write anything indeed, you can imagine how cheery I feel about being vaccinated and yet still so poorly. Truth isn’t pretty.

ZenNudist · 17/05/2021 23:39

I've got a grouo holiday booked for October I have a strong suspicion wont go ahead. I hope we can get through to July end of year without a full on school closure but no doubt bubbles will burst...
