Does anyone else think the trial club nights at Liverpool are a mistake?

Trial club nights 6000 people no masks or social distancing. You have to have had negative lateral test before attending and are 'encouraged' not compulsory for pcr test 5 days after.
I think this is too soon to be trialling large crowds when people can't even go in their mums house indoors

Completely up to the people who went. I was asked to take part in a test running race event but they said you'd need to do three tests, one LFT and two PCR. Yuck. Not for me.

luckylavender · 02/05/2021 15:20

No, I think it's good. We need to trial these things and now is a good time.

BluebellsGreenbells · 02/05/2021 16:23

I’d be more interested in seeing trials where all attendees are vaccinated.

With this Hugh roll out of vaccines why are they never mentioned in these things?

hellsbells99 · 02/05/2021 16:32

DD’s friend went and had a fab night. The friend and the friends she went with are students and most have already had covid (so probably already have some immunity).

I think they will need to have vaccinated considerably more under 30s and under 40s than they have to make a vaccinated nightclub trial feasible.

threatmatrix · 02/05/2021 17:37

No ones asking you to join in, if you feel vulnerable stay in and let the rest of us enjoy life. Mental health issues are going through the roof. Jesus it’s only taken a year for us to be fully indoctrinated.

Bookloverjay · 02/05/2021 17:41

I think its a great idea to do a trail we do need to get back to normal, but I think the test in 5 days should be mandatory

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 02/05/2021 17:51

OK captain loaded how do you propose we pay for living in this no man's land? And what else do we need to sacrifice to fund it?

The people who have been most affected by covid are those who were already in a poor position financially. The office cleaners, shop workers and bar staff. We need to get back to normal so people can get back to work and the real world. We can't just keep putting it off because Sophia has a home office and hasn't got any real clue how everyone else has been having to struggle.

I've been making food parcels up for a friend who was just about coping on £200 a week as part time work was all she could get. As a single person she gets no benefits but it was doable....... That 20% loss is £40 a week for her. That's her food budget which she no longer has. Sod all minus 20% equals bare bones of arse for so many. And far too many people cosy in laa laa land are clueless to that fact.

stopwindingeachotherup · 02/05/2021 17:53

My daughter was at Thorpe Park yesterday. Big queues and no distancing. It’s open, she went. The young have done their bit for the older generation I think. Let them have fun.

keeptheaspidistra · 02/05/2021 18:06

Nope i think it's a great idea. We have been living with restrictions (which i follow and am not opposed to on the whole btw) for over a year now; night clubs have been shut completely throughout this time so don't know why it's too soon?

BluebellsGreenbells · 02/05/2021 18:20

Over 50’s enjoy gatherings as well you know! Doesn’t have to be clubs.

Dontwanttolivewithmylover · 02/05/2021 18:27

It was trialled in a venue that could give significant results of large numbers of people in an enclosed space. Imagine how many households would need to be involved to get the same numbers and those households would be spread across a much wider area than one building in Liverpool.
It's like guinea pigs for vaccines or to trial medications. They are all done in one place at the same time.
Be pleased that, if it works, you will probably be allowed to do what you like come June or even earlier.

Sure, but this one was specifically about nightclubs, which are one of the few parts of the economy which have been entirely shut the whole time. I’m really glad they did something aimed at younger people actually.

godmum56 · 02/05/2021 18:30

Its an EXPERIMENT and everybody who is involved with it understands that even though most of them will be doing it for the fun. Its as controlled as it can be. Personally I am grateful to all those involved because it will help us to understand how we can move on safely.

Immunity doesn't last beyond 6 months AT MOST.

Using block capitals doesn't make this true.
Againstmachine · 02/05/2021 18:51

Shhh people using block capitals are important do t you know.

Yeah that's not true.

Have you seen the odds on catching it if unvaccinated? 1 in 40,000 per day on average. It's unlikely there'd even be anyone with covid at such an event.

Our vaccines had to be tested in other countries last year be there was so little about here and cases are even lower now than last summer.

These are the clowns we're supposed to have reasoned debate with?

Yeah, no.

You are RIGHT.
Divebar2021 · 02/05/2021 19:27

The results of the Spanish concert trial were really good.... there was no surge in COVID reported. Does that not allay some fears?

MaxNormal · 02/05/2021 19:29

Does that not allay some fears?

It's not fears, it's moralising. They object to the trials being fun.

Chris08 · 02/05/2021 19:38

So happy for them 😃
There has been massive freedom rallies in London, last one they reckon reached 1M & guess what - no rise in covid. Get back to normal I say.
