I think it will be a big deal/a big sign when people can accompany or visit those in hospital! I haven't heard any speculation about when that might be

MIL just phoned to say she is getting a date for her hip replacement, and that her pre-op stuff will be done asap, and that she can bring someone along to all her appointments. Things are definitely on the move.
Covid: One dose of vaccine halves transmission - study www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56904993
It does FAR more than that enjoysun if you read it carefully.

It reduces transmission by up to half where the person has tested +ve. But you need to ADD the reduced likelihood of a vaccinated person testing +ve - 65% less likely!

Thus the overall reduction in transmission following a single jab is 78-82% which is fantastic!

TeenMinusTests · 28/04/2021 12:39

Placemarking as still need good news to keep me going.

Interesting article about the recent concert in Spain, and number of people testing positive after: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-56899764?fbclid=IwAR0yC6t4ovIQGvYUxWQU2zXrQJWAl3vZYzwj5yprnJ0MhAd1_-ZFojDspbc

Autumn101 · 28/04/2021 17:03

That’s brilliant news on the concert in Spain and very reassuring. Hopefully it’s a welcome sign to get some of the arts back up and running - they’ve suffered so much during this.

TruelyWonder · 28/04/2021 19:34

Harry Potter memes have flooded twitter after Jonathan Van-Tam said someone named Professor Snape would be running a UK COVID trial during the daily briefing earlier.

He made the comment while speaking about COV-boost which will investigate vaccine boosters when it starts in June.

😂😂😂😂 Can't talk I am laughing to much

Furries · 28/04/2021 20:15

@TruelyWonder - ha, that’s brilliant! Haven’t read the books or seen the films, but even I know who Professor Snape is 😂

@TruelyWonder - they’re brilliant, love the post from the Oxford crew!

I blooming loved Alan Rickman. I was very jealous of Sharleen when he was in the Texas video for In Demand 💕💕💕

Hancock has got the vaccine from Van Tam at the Science Museum! So unfair, total corruption. I bet he even got a sticker too

Bordois · 29/04/2021 10:46

Just be glad he wore a t-shirt 🤣

How did he wangle that?!
Autumn101 · 29/04/2021 15:00

Hurrah I have my 1st dose booked for 10th May! Had a text from GP this morning which I wasn’t expecting as they’ve been pushing everyone to try the National booking system and use the big hubs. I’m 40 and the last one of my family and friends to get it 🎉

He did get a sticker I saw on the news at lunchtime. He had it on his white t shirt. Thank god he was wearing a t shirt and didn’t decide to strip off a la Greek prime minister!! I got a sticker for my second jab yesterday. It’s on my phone. Might be able to go on holiday with that as proof!
tobee · 29/04/2021 17:47

I'm kicking myself now! When I booked my second jab I was offered The Science Museum and maybe JVT would have been working that shift? Grin I chose a hospital venue as less of a shlep from here.

EasterIssland · 29/04/2021 18:22

Some 40-/41 are now reporting they can book

I am so disappointed in you, even if we're total strangers Grin

A jab at the SCIENCE MUSEUM, by JVT?! You could have dined out on that story for decades.
