@HolmeH my whole trust has been double vaccinated so front line staff over 30 are already eligible

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/05/2021 17:39

Deaths quite low today. I mean, not actually zero but....

TruelyWonder · 03/05/2021 18:20

Sadly the death figure today is because it is a bank holiday isn't it. Still I say fingers crossed anyway Smile

TeaInTheGarden · 03/05/2021 20:48

Did my first volunteer shift today and got a spare dose at the end! Feel so lucky, and it was great to be involved, even though there was lots of standing in the rain involved!

TruelyWonder · 03/05/2021 23:55

Ok so not about covid and sorry it is the daily fail but to pigging good news not to shout out🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

This could be a total game changer for adults and children with cancer

Good news indeed @TruelyWonder
Maybe we need a good news board when this is all over ?!

Today we look set to seeing that 2/3rds of adults have had 1 dose and 30% 2 doses (look how I have done that journalistic thing of muddling up ways of stating data just to be different Smile).

Updated 4 May. Over 30s should take any vaccine offered to them, no change in policy

Yes but the difference is you have done to announce good news. Not to make a scaremongering headline

We have now done 50% of the jabs we are expecting to do. So all down hill with our feet off the pedestals from here. Hopefully

Well apparently south Korea and some other countries are doing the same. So more than likely the right call.

Yes that would be good if nothing similar on mumsnet. Would have to be a no politics rule I imagine. Just awesome acts of human kindness, scientific breakthroughs, stuff like that.

First we need to slam the door on covid and scaremongering

PomLikeTheBattle · 04/05/2021 18:07

This is not in the spirit of the thread. I’m on a train. A man is snoring, I feel murderous.

Love the idea of acts of kindness.

So I won’t actually do anything to the snoring man.

Have just posted this on the vaccination counting thread but copied it here because I am excited by it and you lot should be tooGrin

A tweet I found from Mac n’ Chise were I had not registered before the full awesomeness of what she was saying

In case anyone isn’t aware, there HAS not been one case thus far of a FULLY (2-weeks post second dose by definition) vaccinated individual transmitting the virus (in the case of a rare breakthrough infection).

So basically not one person that managed to get infected after vaccination has ever transmission it to another person 🥳🥳🥳

How truly wonderful and glorious is that.

Total game changer in itself.

TruelyWonder · 04/05/2021 20:39

Sorry this bit was the quote part obviously and should have been in bold up copy failed me. Plus my normal lack of proof reading obviously 😂

PomLikeTheBattle · 04/05/2021 22:22

There's also data (daily fail link) showing infections low in schools - which I think reflects lots of peoples experience.

Plus Infections in children (including vulnerable groups) continues to be very low, no inpatients at all in North London area.

OP posts:
TruelyWonder · 04/05/2021 23:00

I actually think school cases may be even lower. Teacher and student cases have to be reported to the school and they report to PHE. We have been told to report even if not in school. So we technically have 5 cases so far. However not one of those cases were people in school during the infection period. 2 cases day before we started back. 3 cases in the Easter holidays. Not a single close contact at school.

My London borough has had no deaths since March Smile

BessMarvin · 05/05/2021 07:56

I do struggle to understand these things sometimes. Why would it be that school children, who aren't vaccinated and are out and mixing at school and on buses etc, and are getting regular tests, aren't getting many positive cases? Surely if coronavirus is anywhere, and we haven't got rid of it, it would be among those not vaccinated?

Bordois · 05/05/2021 08:59

I think there are several reasons, one is that community transmission was always relatively low anyway and another is that there is something in a childs developing immune system that makes them less vulnerable to the virus anyway - something about AC receptors? (I'm sure some less science illiterate than me can confirm if I'm chatting shit or not) 🤣

PomLikeTheBattle · 05/05/2021 09:26

Royal college of Paediatrics and Child Health say rips of children transmitting virus is limited (7 peer reviewed studies) and children are unlikely to be the index case.

several studies have demonstrated that immune compromised children are not at increased risk. Will link later.

I had the Moderna vaccine this morning! All the volunteers were so lovely, it was a very straightforward and amazingly well run service 👍

And after 4 long months my wonderful DH made it home and finished his hotel quarantine yesterday so even if I don’t get any side effects I’m being totally spoilt 😂

BessMarvin · 05/05/2021 16:52

Thank you Bordois and PomLikeTheBattle. It's certainly interesting!

🥳 That is for getting your jab

🥳That is for getting your husband back. I remember you talking about it before.

🥳That is for whatever your husband will give you tonight (Subject to if you get side effects) 😂😂😂

tobee · 05/05/2021 17:47

Hurrah @Autumn101 !

My good news is ds finally able to book his vaccine. He's 21 and living with cev Dh. After chasing up with the gp he was told yes but no. Yes you can book. But no because you need Pfizer and there are no Pfizer slots for you. (This was a while ago). This morning he got new text saying yes we have Pfizer. So booked in for next Tuesday. 🎉

(Hope it's actually available on the day)
