Shocked at how anti vax it seems to have got on here

Haven't been on this board for maybe a week and it seems to have some real scaremongering about AZ vaccine now. People are losing sight of the benefits I think because cases have gone down, but if they start to go up again and people are refusing vaccines then we'll have problems.
I remember when this board started up it was people all worried about the virus. Has the anxiety just transferred to the vaccine? FWIW had my AZ and no regrets

@savethegrannies

I’ve not seen any anti-vax threads 🧐 I am sure MNHQ would delete them. Please can somebody post some links?
The ones I reported have indeed been deleted. I am still sure you haven’t seen any of them, they were rife about two months ago.
babbaloushka · 27/04/2021 22:07

@MercyBooth I rather think you are missing the point, the baseless discriminate founded on personal religious views is vastly different to mitigation of a public health risk. It protects the business from legal dispute, as well as protecting their staff and customers from decreased transmission.

Before anyone jumps on saying that vaccines don't stop transmission, that is true, however they decrease transmission rates by reducing an individuals likelihood of being symptomatic. They are less likely to cough, and therefore less likely to spread it. It's due to an increased immune response that reduces the virus's tropism for the upper respiratory tract, and slowing the rate of viral infection and reproduction in healthy cells.

Creamteasandsunshine · 27/04/2021 22:14

I’ve missed the anti vax threads but to be fair I don’t spend a great deal of time on mn so could have easily missed them.
I have two relatives who have been quite poorly with vaccine reactions (one was admitted to hospital) following the AZ jab. Of course this makes me anxious. Having had covid and fully recorded it does make me feel apprehensive about getting the jab.
I find it useful to read other people’s experiences.

They were deleted and quite rightly so, full of unfounded rubbish.... Now you get the I'm scared and attempting to imply the risk is more than it is to basically scare the over anxious on here
MarshaBradyo · 27/04/2021 22:19

Giveme yes I agree with that. It’s pretty relentless.

People who are anxious are probably more likely to post but it doesn’t reduce anxiety overall.

People who’ve had AZ and moved on tend to be thinking of other stuff now

doomonic · 27/04/2021 22:50

I personally feel it's quite useful to discuss & found it helped me know what side effects to expect because at the time of mine I didn't know many younger people who had it. I was prepared for the shivers etc so just took some paracetamol & went to bed early.

doomonic · 27/04/2021 22:51

And if you've had both jabs with minimal side effects then of course you move on from the discussion, that's human nature.

savethegrannies · 28/04/2021 03:40

“ Now you get the I'm scared and attempting to imply the risk is more than it is to basically scare the over anxious on here”
So people are not allowed to say they are nervous about the vaccine?
As for implying the risk is worse than it is, that’s a pretty vague expression. Surely people can just hit report if they take issue?
My issue is with the title of this thread. I have yet to see any anti vax posting. Anti vax appears to have become a catch all for anybody who is not having the vaccine.

Changechangychange · 28/04/2021 10:15

@savethegrannies several of us on here have said that we have reported threads by obvious anti-vac trolls, and they have been deleted. Do you think we are lying? It doesn’t it count if you personally haven’t didn’t read them before they went poof?

savethegrannies IS an antivaxxer lol.

Pinkearedcow · 28/04/2021 11:34

Maybe @MNHQ would like to comment on this thread to confirm that they have deleted anti-vax posts/threads - I have definitely seen them go poof!

shewalkslikerihanna · 28/04/2021 11:50

@blueangel19

@ all Girlmama3

I can see your point. Even more so if you like me do not know people who has gone through Covid. I am not denying it exists. However, I know people who had terrible side effects and one with a dvt after vaccine but no one who had Covid.

I understand your concerns It’s still on trial till 2023

I've also reported a good number of anti-vax threads, which were then deleted by Mumsnet.

Oh good. your good deed for today then. I’m so glad you’re keeping us safe.
Toty · 28/04/2021 13:27

Lol at MN deleting threads for untruths 😂 better remove the other 99.8% of threads on here then coz they're mostly made up nonsense.

Operasinger · 28/04/2021 13:35

Oh good.
your good deed for today then.

You're welcome. Grin

It's Mumsnet who make the decision. They aren't obliged to remove threads, just because someone has reported something.

noblegiraffe · 28/04/2021 13:50

I have yet to see any anti vax posting.

You were on that thread with that poster who thought the vaccines were to fuse us with AI who posted that the world is secretly run by a Jewish sex cult.

If you managed to miss that one, I’m not sure your bullshit radar is working.

Well I hope none of the AZ refusers are on the pill or are smokers... There risks from those are far higher

I don't recall that post being antivax. Perhaps it was considered a personal attack.

Ableism is allowed to run rampant though. Just seen this on a mask thread

Yes. Im on that thread. Here is a quote from another one.

From the mask thread.

I’d like to see them become the norm in places like public transport. Other countries manage it without the perpetual whining. I also think coughing in public is disgusting and needs to become completely socially unacceptable

DH has COPD He cant help coughing. Ableism in plain sight.

Some people cant help coughing. DH dosnt splutter everywhere He uses a tissue. Hes not a fucking idiot. And neither are others with afflictions that cause coughing.
