Shocked at how anti vax it seems to have got on here

Haven't been on this board for maybe a week and it seems to have some real scaremongering about AZ vaccine now. People are losing sight of the benefits I think because cases have gone down, but if they start to go up again and people are refusing vaccines then we'll have problems.
I remember when this board started up it was people all worried about the virus. Has the anxiety just transferred to the vaccine? FWIW had my AZ and no regrets
@hamstersarse Yes, you have some short term natural immunity, but due to the way viruses cycle their RNA it's recorded to not last much longer than a few months. People have already have COVID twice.
You'll have to show me the evidence on that...I haven't seen any

rarat · 26/04/2021 19:41

I do know someone who tested positive twice for covid, only ill & with symptoms the first time though & there was a 4 month gap.

MrsFezziwig · 27/04/2021 01:09

I’m quite worried as we were doing so well with the vaccinations. I understand once you get to the 20s age group about risk/benefit but I hope we don’t start to see a drop off in 40s and 30s as this could cause a huge problem going forward.

I have also been worried about this, but then get a reality check by popping onto the 35-40s vaccination thread where posters are super keen to get their vaccination appointments, or indeed returning to real life where everyone I know has been happy to be vaccinated. Nor does anyone in (my) real life seem to have suffered the “horrendous side effects” which mainly seem to be confined to people known to Mumsnet posters.

rarat · 27/04/2021 06:33

I think it depends where you are as well. Im in London & I know a few wks ago London was behind other parts of the country & personally I know lots of people who have not had it by choice but also lots that have. The people I know who have had the jab & had side effects were all under 60, although they symptoms only lasted a few days.

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/04/2021 07:32

They're not antivax. They're pro vaccine who just want more info about the AZ vaccine. It matters to differentiate.

Absolutely this.
I am not ‘anti-vax’. I’ve paid for vaccines for my children and would happily pay for the covid vaccination of my choice.

AppleJane · 27/04/2021 09:26

@justanotherneighinparadise I would happily pay too.

We talk about the 32 deaths from blood clot recorded in the yellow card data but actually there have also been a further 627 deaths recorded (up to 14th April) but as they occurred in the elderly/ill they don't count.

Girlmama3 · 27/04/2021 09:30

I was all for the vaccine at the start. Now I’m not so sure. The side effects and horror stories I’m hearing from people I know are really putting me off.

I’m pregnant now and really don’t know what to do. It’s a real shame, the excitement of being protected has been replaced with worry.

blueangel19 · 27/04/2021 10:18

@ all Girlmama3

I can see your point. Even more so if you like me do not know people who has gone through Covid. I am not denying it exists. However, I know people who had terrible side effects and one with a dvt after vaccine but no one who had Covid.

blueangel19 · 27/04/2021 10:19

Sorry DTV

Booksandtea84 · 27/04/2021 10:23

I am massively pro vax down to even giving my DD the chickenpox one in addition to all the other childhood ones and frankly, I'm desperate for the covid one but im 36 and I'm really hoping they won't offer me the AZ. I'm not on the pill because I do worry about side effects and the same applies to the vaccine. It's depressing that people can't worry about a vaccine without being denounced as anti vaxxers.

Booksandtea84 · 27/04/2021 10:28

Omg @Girlmama3 this is exactly how I feel. And I do know very close friends who had awful side effects after the AZ. Not just hearsay. I also have family members who had covid, some mild, one hospitalised and still suffering long covid and i do worry about it for myself and my family but I can't help also worrying about the AZ.

Booksandtea84 · 27/04/2021 10:34

@MrsFezziwig so noone in your real life has suffered horrendous side effects. Great. Good for you. I don't suppose you meant to sound as if you are dismissing those of us who do know people who suffered side effects. I'm not going to deny your reality, don't deny that of others.

I don't know anyone who died of covid and know only one moderately severe case, but that doesn't mean I don't think covid is dangerous.

Girlmama3 · 27/04/2021 10:36

@Booksandtea84 It’s awful isn’t it. I’ve shocked myself by questioning getting the vaccine. I have bad coronophobia and have done everything to avoid getting it.

I’m not going to book it when it’s my chance. I’m 38, and will leave it a bit longer. I can have the Pfizer or moderna as I’m pregnant but even they’re not without their risks.

Devlesko · 27/04/2021 10:52

I think many are just anti this vax, not anti vaxers generally.
I won't be having it, but I've had other vaccinations.

CrunchyCarrot · 27/04/2021 11:10

I don't find people here anti-vax at all, apart from a tiny minority. However quite a few of us are so-called 'vaccine hesitant' - i.e. we have questions and concerns about these particular vaccines (not all vaccines in general). I came across a really interesting and refreshing video by a doctor (Dr Suneel Dhand) yesterday, on this very subject. Only 7 minutes long, well worth a listen.

pommedeterre · 27/04/2021 11:44

But does everyone that is vaccine hesitant have to start a new thread about it though?

They really don't btw.

Booksandtea84 · 27/04/2021 11:58

You don't have to read them do you? People want reassurance, support, advice. If you only come on to snipe then thats your problem.

pommedeterre · 27/04/2021 12:03

They massively clutter up the board though, you can't see the other thread titles.

Its a housekeeping snipe though to be fair.

Delatron · 27/04/2021 12:11

They do clutter up the boards. It’s thread after thread often started by new posters. If you are anxious it doesn’t help and will be influencing many people. If Mumsnet are happy with that then that’s their choice. But it’s not representative of what I’m seeing in real life.

Devlesko · 27/04/2021 14:25

More people clutter the board by adding to threads just to bloody complain.
Try another thread if this one isn't to your liking, it's not compulsory.

Totalbeach · 27/04/2021 21:08

There’s been thread after thread about many things. Is this symptom Covid? Should I get a test? Should we isolate? Oh no I’ve had contact with Covid. Oh no I have Covid. Should schools go back. Vaccine passports. Etc! There are lots of threads because people want to talk about stuff that’s affecting them, including some serious concerns about a vaccine that was rolled out without any knowledge or understanding of the rare lethal side effect. It’s an important topic.

I’ve had one AZ jab just before the data they were purposefully ignoring was admitted to and won’t have a second unless much more is known by then. I’ve had all other vaxes as have my children. I’m not an anti vaccinator. You’d love to give me that label because that would mean I’m an ignorable nutjob not a normal person with concerns about something rather serious that affects the U.K. in general and younger women in particular.

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2021 21:12

It’s thread after thread often started by new posters

There's a warning sign that it's astroturfing.

Also when you hear the same lines repeated over and over. That one about it being untested and still in a trial has been cropping up lots, as if it didn't pass Phase III testing.

AppleJane · 27/04/2021 21:24

@Totalbeach some people like to put everything into two boxes. For or against. They can't compute a third box.

doomonic · 27/04/2021 21:26

Surely more threads make sense as more & more young people are offered the jab?

I wasn't particularly anxious when I had mine but when they then said a wk later that they would offer u30s an alternative (I'm mid 30s) I certainly had questions & anxiety.

Plus we had dozens of threads on cases, covid symptoms, lockdowns, rules, other countries. This is just the new thing in the Covid battle.

savethegrannies · 27/04/2021 21:28

I’ve not seen any anti-vax threads 🧐 I am sure MNHQ would delete them.
Please can somebody post some links?
