AZ side effects

AZ yesterday. Have to say I think I’ve just had the illest night of my life. The bed is literally sodden. Chills are an understatement. OH was the same. Headache now but getting better. Don’t want to put anyone off. Delighted to have got it. Just wondered how many were the same? And what the reaction is likely to be after the 2nd jab?

@Meredusoleil

Dh is booked in for Tuesday and me for Friday but after reading lk this I'm thinking if refusing if we get offered the AZ and only agreeing if it's Moderna by some miracle! Does anyone know what would happen if I/we do that please?
Substantially fewer people have had the modern jab, so the side effects are less known. Out of interest, do you want it as you deem it safer?
Houseofvelour · 18/04/2021 08:16

I was so ill after AZ. Woke up with horrendous chills at around 2am and DH got up to get me a dressing gown and hot water bottle. Went back to sleep and woke up half an hour later sweating buckets and on fire. Had flu like symptoms all day and DH had to come home from work to look after kids as I was too ill. Felt a little worn out for 3 days after the flu day and was then fine.

ExperienceTheLifeYouHave · 18/04/2021 08:17

About 12 hours after mine every single joint in my body hurt. Even my fingers and toes. Just so so sore. And my arm felt bruised for a week, couldn't lift it. I took strong pain killers. Had a little bit of chills etc but nothing major.

Meredusoleil · 18/04/2021 08:18

It sounds like the Moderna has less side effects.

tenlittlecygnets · 18/04/2021 08:19

I had AZ on Thursday morning. No side effects at all but slightly tender arm. The side effects do seem to vary wildly...

bumblingbovine49 · 18/04/2021 08:23

@MadeForThis

Had it yesterday afternoon. Very sore arm when I woke up but better after moving around. Mild sore head and chills.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in reactions in people who have previously had Covid? I tested positive in December and had very mild symptoms.

I think that analysis of post vaccine reactions show that those who have had Covid get more symptoms . I can't remember if that is for all the vaccines though
lavenderlou · 18/04/2021 08:24

Neither DH nor I have had Covid (to or knowledge). He was exactly like you after the first dose - fever, chills, sweating. He said he didn't sleep at all. It lasted exactly 24 hours then he was back to normal. I had no side effects at all, not even a sore arm.

Meredusoleil · 18/04/2021 08:45

Of those of you who had no to barely any side effects, have you had the regular flu jab? If so, what were your reactions to that? Trying to work out my chances of bad side effects based on my flu jab response.

Lockdownlifting12344555 · 18/04/2021 08:47

I have the flu jab regularly, no side effects to that. AZ I was pretty ill after for first dose as expected, 2nd dose a sore arm but absolutely fine!

Thanks for your reply. That's what I'm worried about! Struggling to understand how it's making so many people ill if it's not a live vaccine? Or is it?
TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/04/2021 09:07

I get the flu jab every year, and I get a sore arm but no other symptoms. With the AZ I've really had no symptoms (day 3 now).

BunsyGirl · 18/04/2021 09:12

I react strongly to the flu jab. The Covid vaccine has been worse.

I have the flu vaccine every year (I pay for it) and I have no side effects from that at all, not even a sore arm. After my first dose of AZ I suffered.
Meredusoleil · 18/04/2021 09:33

Oh no! What were your symptoms? Are you still going to have the 2nd dose anyway?

Useruseruserusee · 18/04/2021 09:37

I have the flu jab every year through work and am always fine after.

I did feel unwell after my first AZ jab, it wasn’t awful but I mainly felt like I had a very bad hangover. I was still able to work the next day (teacher) although it wasn’t the best day of my career.

MummyPop00 · 18/04/2021 09:54

Does anyone regret having the first dose

Yes, I regret it because I have had a headache for weeks after it. I’ve also had Covid so in retrospect I would have just relied on immunity through infection until it is conclusively proved that natural immunity isn’t enduring.

That's good. I'm a teacher too, but part time and have booked jab on my first day off to give me a few days to recover before having to drive to school!
BunsyGirl · 18/04/2021 10:00

@Meredusoleil High temp, shivering, sweating, headache, dizziness, nausea, aching all over. Yes, I will have the second as my uncle has been seriously ill with long Covid.

gratedbeetroot · 18/04/2021 10:05

@Meredusoleil

Severe one sided headache, chills, shivers, sweats, severe exhaustion - I couldn’t even look after my kids the day afterwards. Very sore arm for a few days but I could live with that.

I regretted it while I was suffering but I will still have my second dose because my side effects lasted less than a couple of days and I’m sure covid itself would be worse. Doesn’t stop me being a little nervous though.

CrazyHorse · 18/04/2021 10:10

Right now I regret having the first vaccine. Everything hurts except my arm, that's fine. I've had a horrible night and don't think I'll be getting out of bed today. It's a special birthday in this house, so now I'm crying because I won't be able to celebrate with the rest of the family. I feel like I've poisoned myself.

CrazyHorse · 18/04/2021 10:12

Will we have to go through this annually as the virus mutates?

Etulosba · 18/04/2021 10:15

I had side effects. I expected them. I had to take two days off work.

Covid lasted five weeks.

I'll be queuing up for my second dose.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/04/2021 10:23

I wonder if people are more likely to post on threads like this when they have side effects?

Everyone at work got vaccinated with no effects or minor ones. Likewise the relatives, friends and neighbours who have had the jab have felt ok after it. Nobody I know in real life has needed time off work, or had anything worse than a vague chilly/achy feeling within 48 hours of being vaccinated.

lavenderlou · 18/04/2021 10:23

Yes, I get the flu jab every year. Never had any side effects from that either.
