AZ side effects

AZ yesterday. Have to say I think I’ve just had the illest night of my life. The bed is literally sodden. Chills are an understatement. OH was the same. Headache now but getting better. Don’t want to put anyone off. Delighted to have got it. Just wondered how many were the same? And what the reaction is likely to be after the 2nd jab?

Had AZ yesterday. Bit of a sore arm this morning, gone now.

Greyingmumto3 · 18/04/2021 18:07

First dose I had chills for a few hours , then feeling hot ( but I’m of a certain age so may not be connected)
Had second dose yesterday and so far I’m feeling fine Smile

CrazyHorse · 18/04/2021 18:15

From the government website: For both vaccines the overall reporting rate is around 3 to 6 Yellow Cards per 1,000 doses administered.

So not many people are reporting side effects. Whether that means people aren't getting side effects or aren't reporting, I don't know. I guess I just got unlucky.

I do wonder why I've reacted so badly Sad

@SophieB100

Should have added: If I did have Covid a year ago, then the side effects of the vaccine were worse.
This is exactly where my thinking is currently. Should I subject myself to the vaccine and risk having side effects that could potentially be worse than catching the actual virus itself?

Most people in the main (myself included), would usually say catching the actual virus would be worse than any side effects from the vaccine. But I'm not so sure now 🧐

woodlandcalm · 18/04/2021 18:32

I had an AZ at 9.45am and felt fine all day, thought I'd gotten away with it. The next day I woke with severe nausea and the worst headache of my life which lasted a full day but felt better on day 3. Severe nausea came back on the evening of Day 3, then subsided but I remained 'queasy' for another couple of weeks. I had no chills/fevers/injection site pain that many family and friends had experienced. Luckily I didn't realise at the time it was brain clots when talk of clots arose or I'd have been very scared that second day.

Not sure about having the second dose yet, will wait to see how those ahead of me in the process go on.

HeIsHobBobbie · 18/04/2021 19:21

I know all the vaccine centres are different but is it common that they aren't giving out the vaccine leaflet? I'm sure the one I went to can't be the only doing that.

No vaccine leaflet for us. I found it odd.

HarrietM87 · 18/04/2021 19:28

I’m now on day 7 after the vaccine and still extremely unwell with nausea, headaches, exhaustion and aches and pains. I feel utterly wiped out, like I’ve had the flu (also had fever and chills the night I had it). I’m 34 and healthy and anyone I know who had covid has had a mild illness, so like pps I’m actually questioning whether I’d have been better off with covid than this. My husband has had to cancel 3 days of work to look after our kids because I’ve been so ill.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Hope things start to improve soon. Was it the AZ vaccine you had?
HarrietM87 · 18/04/2021 19:51

Yes AstraZeneca. DH also had it and was fine, so I’ve been pretty unlucky.

Etulosba · 18/04/2021 19:55

You have no way of knowing how you will react to the actual virus. I was ill for five weeks. Very ill for three of those. Other people have had it worse, much worse.

With the vaccine, I was off work for a couple of days. The side effects of the vaccine were nothing in comparison to the actual virus. Think bad cold.

If you haven't had covid already, the chances are that the side effects from the vaccine will be mild, if anything at all.

SophieB100 · 18/04/2021 19:55

I got the leaflet. I didn't read it until after I got unwell, then it sort of confirmed my side effects.

I will have the second, because I work in a school, I'm nearly 60 and although I think I've had Covid I haven't had it confirmed.
I do think, rationally, that I have antibodies - due to having had it and probably the first jab was enough to protect me. But my DD is an ICU nurse, and she has dealt on the front line, lost many patients, many much younger than me, and I would rather another few days feeling rough from side effects, than risk it.

I totally understand that some of us are reluctant, and I wouldn't judge anybody for taking whatever choice they make.

Sounds like there's really no way of predicting how somebody will react to the vaccine, as it could be a wide range of different side effects 🧐
MarshaBradyo · 18/04/2021 20:02

I did get the leaflet - which outlined side effects.

I’ve read on here that second dose for AZ is fine v other vaccines. Not sure if that’s definite though.

AnnaFiveTowns · 18/04/2021 20:14

I had mine 2 weeks ago and still have a stiff, painful neck and mild headache. Not yet sure if I'll have the second dose yet.

NotABeliever · 18/04/2021 20:38

I had AZ about a month ago. I was shivery and had a temperature the first night and the day after. Also had a persistent headache for 48 hours. It wasn't so bad that I had to call in sick but I wasn't very productive at work and had a long nap in the afternoon. That was the extent of it. I would have it again in a heartbeat if it meant not getting Covid again.

CrazyHorse · 18/04/2021 21:41

After 24 hours of feeling hideous I've started to feel a bit better.

If this is a one off vaccination it will have been worth it, but I don't think I could do this once a year. Sad

Onthedowns · 18/04/2021 21:51

I had mine 630pm last night woke up 530am nauseas and headache took paracetamol bsck to bed. Have felt headachy all day and aching limbs, shooting pains in legs. Feel a bit more human now but so tired and can't nod off. Terrible sore arm which i cant sleep on. My DH was pretty tired for a day after - yesterday but feels fine today.

However my period started today which i always suffer headaches stc with peri so that won't help. Hoping tomorrow i feel more normal.

FeelinHappy · 19/04/2021 10:24

Lots of people seem to find the second dose much better, so I think there's a reasonable chance that side effects wouldn't be like this every year.
CrazyHorse · 19/04/2021 10:53

I'll see how the second dose goes.

I'm feeling much better today, but WOW! I wasn't expecting that - I think it's like childbirth, no one tells you quite how bad it is Grin

MarshaBradyo · 19/04/2021 11:07

Well done Crazy. Btw I’m glad you’re going for second dose, you’ve done the hard part may as well get all the benefit!

It must really vary, I think you got one of the worst, others won’t tell you as most have it easier I reckon

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/04/2021 14:01

Had my first AZ vaccine yesterday. I was fine when I went to bed but woke up in the night feeling sick and with a really painful arm. I now have a slight headache and feel tired but that's about it other than the arm.

Sackofspuds · 20/04/2021 18:05

@Meredusoleil

I'm impressed with everyone suffering through the side effects but still saying they are glad they had the jab! Not sure I would feel the sane way tbh.

Does anyone regret having the first dose and/or been advised not to have the second one?

no. no and no. Made me more concerned about how ill I could have been had I got Covid. it was 1 night. can deal with that. x

MarshaBradyo · 20/04/2021 18:12

Same as op no regrets, will have second no issue.

I think it’s madness to do just one in any case

DoingItMyself · 20/04/2021 18:16

I had Covid in Feb 20. I had my first AZ jab in March - no side effects, after effects, whatsoever. Will be having the second one in June, and hoping for the best.

Violetlavenders · 20/04/2021 18:20

Does anyone regret having the first dose and/or been advised not to have the second one?

Absolutely no regrets! I had a slightly sore arm and felt flu-ey for 24 hours. Felt great thereafter!

I'm looking forward to my second dose next month.

I also look forward to going on holiday in August hopefully Smile
